Which brand is good for a laptop, HP or Dell, and which one?

It all depends on the model and the money you want to spend !All brands have business series models, that are more expensive but also reliable and serviceable. There is also the cheaper lines that is plastik and even standard things dont work very well.. e.g microphones and cameras, or speakers. Stay away from the cheap models with only one year of coverage.I was using all the three brands, and have found that top models are day and night comparing with the cheap models of the same brand.Lenovo Thinkpads are also very good and enjoyable to work as dell XPSs and HP ElitebooksSometimes is a matter aesthetics , and sometimes is a matter of warranty :Choose the vendor that can provide you the longer warranty time, profesional support, for the given cost and performance.Regards Yiannis

Terrible sound quality on brand new laptop on skype. How to fix it?

I bought new laptop few days ago. I have a big problem with Skype. When i am talking with friends they can barely understand me. They describe the sound that i provide as "like i am talking from deep inside the water well" and they say it is really annoying. However when i record myself the result is perfectly clear sound so i don't think it is a hardware problem. I tried to fix it in skype settings but there is not many options there so i had no luck. Any tips?

Do i need a new ac adapter for my dell inspiron 1545 laptop?

Your ac adapter is doing its job if the computer is telling you that it is charging while plugged in. A ac adapter cannot become wore out and less efficient because all it does is transfer power, it either works or it doesn't. When it comes to battery life you are dealing with a difficult subject. So many different variables determine the length of use a battery will supply you. One of the most important aspects to pay attention to is the quality of the battery you are buying. There are so many companies out there making replacement batteries for laptops, but they are not using the best technologies that are used in the creation of a quality power pack. Yes the number of cells should make a substantial difference in the battery performance, but a cheap 9 cell is probably worse than a quality 6 cell because of sheer efficiency. Buying the name brands can cost you quite a bit more money, but there is a reason for that and it is good reason that only benefits you.
The next item on the list of power saving options is adjusting the power settings of your computer. There are options that allow you to dial back the performance and small luxuries that consume power at a much faster rate. You can adjust these settings to your preference, but the general rule is less performance equals less power being used. This can have a huge effect on the life you get from your battery, and often times is never adjusted or optimized for the specific user.
The last little bit of advice I can leave you with is the break in and care of your new battery. Batteries are very easy to screw up and once they have been weakened there is no bringing them back up to full strength. The manufactuer will be able to tell you the specific instructions to ensure you get the most out of your battery, but generally it is recommended that you first run the battery completely dead before plugging it in to a charger. It is also a good idea to not use your laptop during the first few charging cycles, because when you are using your laptop and trying to recharge, the charging process can be interfered with due to the power being used to operate your machine. Once you have completed this cycle a few times your battery will be condition to operate at the best performance it is capable of.

Which company is the best for laptops: Dell, HP or Lenovo? Why?

Disclaimer: I was working for Dell until 2011, had worked with support and then with dispatch team as a quality analyst.I am not really aware about the current market conditions or supplier details etc. Or how the support is like with Dell in India. But, when I was working with them, the company used to push their employees to give the BEST possible support and solution to our customers. Also, at that time they were ranked just below Apple interms of customer satisfaction and hardware quality/longevity.If you are really looking for sturdy, reliable laptops, I would recommend belowNEVER purchase a laptop, which is Just launched (the all new blah blah blah..), go for the models which are best sellers even after a year. Most of the companies out there will test the new laptops on their customers, the initials problems would get ironed out after 7 - 12 months.Dont buy a laptop, just because someone recommended X over Y, go to the nearest store, have a good look at the laptop, check if it's very heavy, check if the plastics around the screen is very flimsy and if it has issues with opening and closing, use the laptop for sometime.I personally would not recommend any laptop which has AMD processors (too much heating issues). If your budget permits, go for midrange or high end laptops(but don't get misled by very high end display screen etc. You won't find any difference in normal viewing angels (always go for full hd)), again depending on your usage go for the hard drive size and memory. Also note, SOME of the business laptops of HP, DELL, LENOVO (formerly IBM ThinkPad) are good, you won't find the latest features on these but they are built to last for a long time.I would recommend Dell over others, they have some good laptops, have/had good support(you have proper escalation channels even incase if something gets screwed up).

Why do programmers have elevated laptops? Does that setup reduce strain on the arms or eyes?

One word: Retina. When I first started doing development, only a desktop would suffice. The more power the better. The more monitors the better. Laptops simply didn’t have that power, and didn’t support that many monitors.About a decade ago, MacBook pros started to take priority for developers. The price point was similar to PCs (Update for clarity: I mean PC-based laptops, not PC-based desktops… so, Windows/Linux laptops are comparable to MacBooks), the power was comparable to a desktop, and when you combine that with the increase of web technologies over the past 10 years—where developers had to start accounting for Macs in design—and the abundance of iOS/tvOS/macOS development, and the MacBook seems to be one of the most popular options for developers.Where I work, developers all have MacBook Pros, while most of the rest of IT uses Windows-based Dell laptops. Those using Dell-based systems tend to snap them on to a dock, and then rely on dual 1080p monitors. Devs, on the other hand, have been staring at code for the past 20 years of their life, the past 15 of which have been on flat-screen monitors that only support one native resolution. Only since the MacBook retina display was introduced has the HiDPI laptop screen been popular and affordable. So when we’re working at home using only the laptop screen, we’re using retina displays now.Code is poetry to us, and code just looks beautiful on it. Text has never been so clear. Zero and “O”, and “1” and “l” have never been so easily distinguished because anti-aliasing is no longer an issue. Everyone I know with a retina display refuses to leave it in clamshell mode, so now we elevate it (often putting it in the middle) so that it aligns vertically with our other two monitors (makes it more natural to drag windows left and right), but also makes the retina display prominent and visible because the richness of color and clarity is too nice to give up. We’ve spent so long focused on limited-resolution screens, where text is 75% of what we stare at, and HiDPI is just art to us. You don’t cover that up: you elevate it and enjoy it!

Are ASUS laptops one of the worst ever?

ASUS does not work for me and is the worst laptop I’ve ever had.Of the 6 major laptop brands, I’ve owned 3 in the following order:AcerDellASUSBased on reliability and for the fact it didn’t break down and lasted 2.5 years, the best laptop of all times in my experience was my Acer Aspire.Several many years ago I bought a brand new Dell desktop computer. Within a year and without provocation, the desktop upped and stopped functioning.I was furious when the Dell rep on the phone broke me the news they couldn’t help me out. Which was when I swore up and down fifth avenue I’d never ever buy a Dell again. That was a lie. When my Acer died in late 2016 and I was shopping for something new, I saw a Dell wearing the right specs I was looking for at the best price at Best Buy. And so it was I went back on my word and I acquired another Dell.Another Dell would up and die just a bit more than a year in my care. It had functioned well til then and simply stopped. When I couldn’t find an Acer to replace Dell, I would run right in to an ASUS. And here we are.I have to say the Asus has been the absolute worst performing laptop I’ve ever had in all my years of computing.I got the ASUS in March 2018. Over different periods of time, by October 2018 I’ve experienced the following:laptop doesn’t work on battery power even though battery is at 98%wireless network disappears several times a daywindow freezes up requiring reboot several times a daycursor disappears and I don’t know whyblue tooth is on per my eyes but is no on per the systemASUS took the cake from Dell. For Dell functioned well and then it didn’t function at all.ASUS does not function well. I can’t wait for it to die for a new laptop.
