Is There A Cat Scratch Proof Furniture Cover

Why is my cat peeing on leather furniture?

It's probably the smell. Cats have a very sensitive sense of smell and leather puts out a lot of it. It gives off a very strong smell that will attract your cat's attention.

If it's real leather, the combination of animal scent (cow or horse, for example) and certain chemicals may give him the impression of animal wastes. A cat uses the litter box to cover its scent from predators, so if it thinks another animal has used that spot to deposit its waste, he will think it's extra protection. He knows that all those different smells in one area will confuse the enemy and throw him off his trail.

If it's fake leather, it's possible that the chemicals in the material produce a similar smell to his litter.

In any case, I would recommend buying an animal deterrent from a pet store. It comes in a little spray bottle that shouldn't harm your furniture (read the label to be sure) and doesn't cost much. You can find it at petsmart.

Is it true that leather furniture is relatively cat resistant because the texture is unpleasant for clawing? Is it resistant for some other reasons or not more resistant than fabric covered furniture?

i have three leather chairs, with matching ottomans, also leather. the arms on two of the chairs show wear and tear, mostly tear, from one of my cats who loves to sharpen his claws on almost everything. the other chair has tubular arms. all of my cats will snooze on the leather chairs if there is a blanket or soft cloth on the seat of the chair, or if i am in the chair. all of these chairs are relatively new. i knew it would be a problem but bought them anyway because i like the chairs. i’d rather have scratch marks as opposed to cleaning up clumps of fur.

Is there a mattress protector to stop cats from scratching up my mattress and boxspring?

You should usethese sticky sheets that you lay on the sides of the matresse like the brand sticky paws. Or you could get a scratching pad for them to scratch instead. I got my cat a foam pad(she used to scratch everything!!) and she stopped scratching anything else but the pad. (they do it to sharpen their claws)

Microfiber furniture ... flammability, safety?

there are guide lines established by the consumer product safety commission, that all furniture manufacturers must follow. furthermore, the outer shell of the furniture is not the only part to be concerned with. the wood frame is of course, very flamable and the padding and other man made materials will also burn quite readily.
as far as toxic gasses, all of the by-products of combustion are toxic. once your sofa is burning, chances are, that your drapes and walls are burning, your carpet may be next. all of this stuff produces toxic gasses.
and if you're really concerned about toxins, check the levels of toxic gasses that are released by man made materials without burning. that new carpet smell? that's from off-gassing of chemicals from the manufacturing process.

What do you know about cats scratching up an Aeron chair?

The Herman Miller (furniture company)'s Aeron chair is the top of the line office chair, more popular than any other in history. It is an award winning design and is displayed in the Museum of Modern Art's Industrial Design department. It is the single most famous office chair in the history of the universe. Do your homework!

How do you cat-proof a house?

Can you build an outdoor enclosure to keep your kitty safe while you can't watch her or confine her to one room and remove everything from it, only let her out when someone can supervise her.

Train her! Get a water squirt bottle to use (a can with pennies in it will make a loud noise, some don't like that, you just need to see what deters her) and whenever she does something you don't like, squirt her with it or shake the can. Often a loud firm NO is enough to stop them. Also double sided sticky tape on surfaces you don't want her on, such as the kitchen counters will work.

Good luck with your kitty. I know the alternatives don't sound great but they would be preferable to having your kitty end up in a shelter or the like.

Look up cat environment enrichment online to find cheap, appropriate ways to relieve boredom and keep her amused.

What is the best material for a sofa/couch for cat owners?

If cats are destroying YOUR furniture, it means you have fell behind to provided CAT furniture to satisfy their needs. Before you buy your sofa, first install some cat furniture. Cats need to climb, jump, strech and scratch. What I found useful in he past includes:Cat tree. For best climbing, get the tallest tree with the longest "trunk”. Vertical climbing helps a cat maintain healthy upper body strength and mental attitude.Cicil rug. I always have flat weaven cicil area rugs. Cats love it and travel to these areas to scratch them, not stopping for sofa or anything else on their way. These rugs are highly durable and easy to clean. They also come in different colors but make sure it is cicil. That scent is the key to a happy kitty. Also important make sure it is big and heavy enough so it is sterdy when the cat is having its way with the rug. A small flimsy rug will just be ignored.Cat Shelves. Most cats like high places. The more time they spend up in or traveling to high shelves the less chance they mess with my things. There are many to choose from. Incorparate as much as you want, but I recommand a perch for resting somewhere on their path.Sofa and chairs are last resort for an unamused cat. Bring in the cat furniture first before you buy your new sofa. Introduce the proper cat toy to your cat.If the cat insists, get laizer pointer and sprinkle cat nip to seduce them to “yes go” areas. In “no go” areas get some cat repellent and smear or spray your furniture. What I found useful includes orange peel, beer, perfume, air freshener. You can also put down tape and let the sticky side face out in places you prefer not to have the cat set paws. They hate stickiness on paws. No kidding I used to sit on this tape decorated armchair sipping alcohol, eating orange and just leave the peel in the seat for a couple of days. My four cats avoid the chair like its worse than the vacuum.Oh this question is about sofa. Choose what you like. Leather is fine, suede might be just too tempting. Be aware cats will be cats. They scratch some times but they do not have to destroy if you provided better options for them. As long as your expectations are realistic, enjoy the new home for both you and your pets!
