Interesting question...if you are in America, assisted suicide is illegal. It is also illegal to murder someone one. With those two laws, I would say it is illegal to take a hit out on yourself. But if the hit man succeeds...you have no worries and it is what they do. Living is usually better.

Any contract that binds either or both sides to illegal actions (killing, drugs, prostitution..) is declaed void by any court of law and both sides are equally guilty for entering into the contract. Also, in the American model, a “finding” by the Attorney General that sanctions assassinations covers the assassin with a veneer of legality. I suppose other countries have some similar structure. Outside of those two situations, no, it is not legal to be an assassin.
