Besides temples and museums, which are the safest places for a 19 year old girl to travel in North India alone, and what is the best mode to travel from Bengaluru? Are the hotels safe? What should I do?

I have travelled a lot in mountains of northern India and can easily say that both Himachal and Uttrankhand and Ladakh are very safe places to go to in terms of crimes against women. I will list you some beautiful, serene, nature filled places where you can relax and let yourself be absorbed in the surroundings. 1- Kheerganga, Kasol - HimachalKasol is a dopers town, very beautiful, people, a healthy bunch of which are foreigners, are very nice, helpful, relaxed. Kheerganga is a four hour trek from a nearby village which has hot water springs. Combo of Parvati river and pir panjal range is amazing. 2- Triund, Dharamsala, HimachalDharamsala has amazing momos, views of dhauladhar range, monastries etc. Triund is a four hour walk/trek up the hill where you can spend the night in a tent and gaze at the stars. 3- Valley of Flowers, Himkund, UttrankhandValley of flowers is the most b'ful thing in August. Himkund is a sikh pilgrimage sight which is a semi frozen lake. Enroute fall many prayags(confluence of rivers). 4- Solang, Manali, HimachalManali is a place more fun with friends, but to each his own. Old manali is good to relax in. Solang is couple of hours of beautiful road up further and has lots of adventure sports options like paragliding, skiing etc. I suggest you hike to a small peak there Patalsu, 14k feet, will be worth it. There are other options as well, like Rishikesh, Benaras(not hills), shimla, lansdowne, mussoorie etc, but I believe these will suite your needs better. Buses, both regular and volvo ply from delhi to these locations. My advice, pack light(very), spend less on accomodation, more on the experience (food, activities). Talk to a lot of people, noone will mean you harm, they're very friendly and new people are the essence of any travel. Mingle with everyone. Also, safety is more about how one takes care of oneself, be confident, act confident, most people wont bother you anyway. Be smart, alert, prepared, brave. All the places I mentioned, my female friends have roamed out on the streets at 1am in the night alone, its that safe. Crimes against women not much of an issue up there in the mountains. Lastly, you can PM me if you need any more details or other help about these places.

What are the places in India where you can get accommodation and/or food for free?

Depends on where you will be starting from, but i'll try to answer it earnestly.Puducherry - If you are staying down south, you can enjoy some quality time in Puducherry(Places to visit in Puducherry)  and stay in Aurobindo Ashram at nominal charges for night's stay. Visit Aurovilla for some quite time and marvel at the experimental township, home to all religions.Goa - You can find all sort of accommodations in Goa, be the 5 star resorts like Vivanta by Taj in Fort Aguada or the super cheap shacks. Liquor is cheap as well. If you can spot a good street shop, you can survive in Goa on a shoestring budget.Kasol - Being an offbeat destination, Kasol in Himachal Pradesh offers wonderful views at dirt cheap prices. You can go there via HRTC buses. Street-side shops and budget hotels are also there. But don't expect big shops.Other good places you can go which are also budget friendly: Itanagar - Extremely lush green and serene itanagar is not only off-beat and cheap, its also spectacularly beautiful. I would suggest you to pick up some homestays for overnight stay rather than staying in hotel. They are clean and quite good.Varanasi - Staying in ashram will be cheap, so are all the restaurants.Gokarna - Its offbeat yet very beautiful.Kodaikanal - Almost everyone studying in B'lore goes there. It light on pocket and pleasant as well :)Rishikesh - Very good for adventure travel for students and you can have some decent stay at the Ashrams (my experience was quite good, but make sure you book in advance if going with lots of friends).Pushkar - It comes into its own during the Pushkar fair with camel rides and what not, but Pushkar is a good place to visit with friends even without the Fair. Who is the best food provider for trains?

There are a lot of companies who provides such type of services in trains like railrestro, railrider, travelkhana etc but which one is best is in fact a tough question to answer. In my point of view, either no one is best or everyone is best. It all depends on your experience with that service provider. Like, earlier I had good experiences with travelkhana but they missed deliveries for 3 consecutive times. I was left with nothing but to try alternate options like yatrachef, railrestro, mfc. They all gave me similar type of experiences ,they too missed deliveries. I used to think that why they take orders if they are not able to deliver it for sure. When I started digging the fact by talking to a customer care executive of railrestro, I came to know how wrong was I. He told that every company, from railrestro to travelkhana..all are dependent on their vendors for food deliveries. None of them have their own outlets at any station . They have tied up with local restaurants all over india to cater food on train. It is sole responsibility of vendor to deliver food timely. Company job is to take your order and transfer the order to the respective station vendor. Even vendor gives his best to deliver the food but delivery of food in train is indeed a very tough job. It's not as simple as to deliver something in a house as they have to deliver food in such a thing which is changing its position time to time. It needs perfection and it doesn't come in a day. I was really impressed and convinced at the same time with his reply. He also said that no one company wants our food to be undelivered as it is their loss also. They can earn profit only when food is delivered and customer pays for it. A question arises then what qualities makes such service provider comparatively better than others. In my point of view, a lot of parameters are there to figure out like what actions they are taking when your food is undelivered, are they trying to arrange it at next station or not, customer care support, working on improving their food quality or not, ordering process easy or not, how much promptness they show in solving your issues like payment refund in case of cancellation and undeliveries of orders paid online, arranging medicine, hot milk for baby, cake, food for diabetes patients etc…pondering on above point I think railrestro wins the debate
