Is There Good Cellphone Services In Kauai Hawaii

I use Bank of America. Are there any ATMs I can use for free (or next, best, very cheaply) on Kauai, Hawaii?

Hey, unfortunately there are no BOFAs in Kauai or any ATMs...just like Maui. The first time I went home to Maui I was upset because I go to the ATM a lot. After that first vacation I came home and checked out my on line bank account and boy do those ATM charges add up! Not much but I could have used that money else where. Now when I go back to Maui or Hawaii in general I take with me about $200 dollars cash and then I ask for $100 everytime I go grocery shopping. Or, I would go in a store like Safeway and buy a drink and ask for $100. By doing that I saved about $50 in ATM charges. Sometimes I would still have to go to an ATM but not so much because I try to have at leat $100 on me. Oh, another thing you have to watch out for are hidden charges when you swipe your card at a store or restaurant. Most of the places will tell you about the charges but there are a couple that wont. I am a Maui girl born and Raised...I still look like a local and they still didn't tell me! So, if you are unsure just ask them and then they have to tell you!

have a wonderful trip! Take care and aloha!

DOES IT COST EXTRA TO CALL HAWAII FROM THE CONTINENTAL US?

no. unless your cell system has no towers there.

T mobile, for instance, has no towers on Maui.

There's a song on Hawaiian radio. The lyrics go,"your love is like a good toilet paper." Title and artist?

The song is called "Your Love", and it's produced by Chris Jay and Laiku Soares. Hilarious song. It's on a CD called Necessary Rukkus, Volume One. You can buy it here:

Why does the state of Hawaii have NO national banks?

I don't know what these so called Hawaii residents have been smoking but their answers seem based on outdated information (at least as of my last visit which was December 2008)

Just check the online bank locator for both Bank of America and JP Morgan Chase and you'll find that there is no branch or ATM within 100 miles of downtown Honolulu (which is basically the entire state).

I am not from Hawaii but I've traveled there twice a year, every year, and I've never been able to find a national bank that actually had a branch with customer interaction and ATMs. There was a BofA building near Pearl Harbor once but it was a corporate office and not an active branch. There was a Wells Fargo office on the way to Kapolei a long time ago, but it was a home mortgage office and not an actual bank branch, and it closed last year. There was a Wamu/JP Morgan Chase office downtown, South west of Ala Moana Shopping Center but it's a corporate/mortgage finance office and not a branch where you can actually do banking.

I heard from a woman in the City Hall that the state legislature had taken steps to shut out all national banks (at least this was the case in 2007-2008) to preserve the local banks which have been then from before statehood. This was only rumor, but I don't see why the local banks would be threatened, since the locals are still very loyal to their small local banks and credit unions (which don't exist outside of Hawaii - except the federal employee credit unions associated with Pearl Harbor).

Since residents get paid and spend their money in state, they don't see the problems associated with not having any national chains which are connected via computer to any account within that brand. This problem is only encountered by outsiders who wish to access their accounts on the mainland and cannot (any amount more than the paltry $200-300 per outsider ATM allows)

Other responders are right in that the locals seem to always use the 'local' banks, which is very provincial and parochial. Yes they are a part of the U.S. but they don't act like it.

Best island in Hawaii?

I have been to all of the islands and my favorite is still Kauai(another answer here misspelled it). It is very lush and has no high rises. Many movies have been shot in Kauai, more then any of the other islands. But if you want a ton of nightlife, then Kauai is not the place to go. When you picture what Hawaii is in your mind, then that is Kauai.
