Is This A Good Freshman Schedule

Is this a good schedule for my freshman classes?

I'm a high school freshman currently. I'm in Honors English as well as Honors Geometry so I can tell you about my experiences in those classes. I'm also in AP World History and biology and I'm doing quite well, maintaining a 4.0 GPA for the school year so far. It depends on peoples' capabilities and capacities. Since you haven't taken honors classes before, I suppose it would be hard for you to determine your strengths.

Anyways, your schedule seems pretty good to me. It's fairly advanced for a freshman. You should definitely take honors courses, despite your fear, because they will prepare you for AP courses and university. Besides, colleges do not look so much at your ninth grade year as much as the higher ones, so this is the perfect year to do some class experimentation.

You seem to be doing quite well in your current English class. You should definitely give Honors English a try, it will be a great learning experience. If you have good reading comprehension and writing skills, you should do just fine. The difference between honors and AP courses is that the former is more rigorous and you learn a lot more in one year, and sometimes the assignments can be more challenging.

If you're still afraid, talk to some of the students at your high school who do have experience with honors classes.

Good luck with high school! I'm sure you'll do fine.

Is This A Good Freshmen College Class Schedule?

Great choice in classes since you have taken english and math in high school so there are no surprises there (Be aware that class structure is different). Back to back classes aren't bad if the classes are close enough to each other, you don't want 10 mins to get all the way across campus. You may want to bring a snack with you the first couple of days just in case you do get hungry

Personally, I prefer to take longer classes twice a week so that I have no class on Friday which allows for a long weekend (I don't know if this is available at your college). Also, I like taking an online course (Only do this if you have the self discipline!). For example this was my Spring 2010 schedule which adds up to 12 credits or full time:

Mon/Wed : 8-9:20 Hist 180, 9:30-11 Eng 110
Tues/Thu : 8-9:20 Hist 175
Online : Poly-sci180

Ultimately, each student is different and you'll soon find out what class schedule works best for you. Good Luck!!!

What is the typical schedule of a college freshman?

College doesn't work that way. There are 4000+ different colleges with 100's of different majors - each is different. Add to that, colleges don't teach freshman level courses one time only each semester so what Joe's schedule looks like might be way different from what Jane's schedule looks like.

For example: at a typical large university every single new freshman will take English 101 - Freshman Comp. The school will offer that class perhaps in fifty different classrooms at different times on different days during the semester. Some people will take it at 7:30-8:30 AM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Some will take it from 10 - 11:30 on Tuesday and Thursday. Some others will take it on Monday evenings from 6-9PM. Add each up, they were all in the classroom the same number of hours. Which you take depends on what you want to take and what's open when you register.

Some other courses are offered once and sometimes not even every semester. If English 488 is offered only in the Fall and only in even years (and you need to take Eng 488) then you take it when it's being offered or you don't graduate. Those too effect your scheduling.

A typical freshman takes 4-5 classes that first semester. If he/she has a good advisor then they're scheduled reasonably well and their schedule is something like:
MWF - start about 10AM and done by 2PM with an hour for lunch (3 classes)
T TH - start about 10:30AM and done by 2:30PM with an hour for lunch (2 classes)

Some will get horrid schedules because that's just how it fell and do things like MWF start at 8AM get done at 6PM with many multi-hour gaps in between classes.

And, my wife was an expert in getting her schedule set by her senior year such that she only went to school on Tuesday and Thursday and took the rest of the week for study and work.

As for which courses you take: that depends on your major. Expect some combination of English, science (with lab), social science/history, math, and lower major courses the first semester.

The idea of go to school from 8AM to 3:30PM every day of the week for the next four years is over when you get out of HS. Colleges don't function that way. You also won't be having the same class every day of the week in most classes - some you might only go to once a week. It's a severe culture shock for most freshman but you'll soon wonder why they couldn't do HS that way too.

My sis has this class on her freshman schedule and we dont know what it is. So what is hghschool101?

It's an introduction to high school life. Here's one school's curriculum:

What is the normal college freshman schedule for any colllege student?

Usually you will try to get your GE (General Education) requirements out of the way. These are the classes that everyone has to take and pass regardless of whatever major your taking. Every school has different GE requirements, so check with a counselor at the college that you choose to go to for the required classes. There is some lea way into what classes you can take to fulfill each GE requirement. Like there could be a humanities requirement for everyone but they let you choose out of a bunch of foreign language classes which one you want to take. Let me give you a preview by using my freshman schedule.

Fall semester: English 5A, Art History 11, Math 45, Psychology 61, and Communication 8. [Ignore the numbers. They translate into the more specific class that I took, like Math 45 is a class called "What is Math?" as opposed to choosing to take Math 75 which is "Calculus 1"]

Spring Semester: Art History 10, English 5B, Anthropology 30, and Political Science 2.

Believe it or not, all of these classes were general education classes and I haven't started taking classes to fulfill the requirements for my chosen major. Usually freshman take 12 units a semester (4 classes) so they adjust to college life and then sophomore year they take 15 units (5 classes).
