Is This Schedule Too Hard

10th Grade Schedule Too Hard?

Pre-Calculus shouldn't be much harder than Algebra II, a lot of the material is the same with a few additions, such as trig functions and limits. Pre-Calculus focuses on functions, specifically trigonometric, exponential, and logarithmic. There's a little bit of polynomials but not as much as the other three types. Then you are introduced to limits at the end.

AP Statistics is a completely different class and way of thinking, it's not really comparable to other math classes. There is a little bit of algebraic manipulation of equations and some modeling with functions, but in general the math is very basic, the hard part is interpreting results, drawing conclusions, reading data, etc etc. It's really more like a science class. If you struggled with Biology this might be a bit of a struggle but you should be able to get an A.

Honors Chemistry and Biology are fairly different, as biology is a life science and chemistry is a physical science. So if you struggle with life science, physical science might be your strength, as it is for me. So there's a good shot it'll be easier for you. However, if you're just not a science-y person it might be a struggle. You should be able to get an A if you work hard though.

AP World History is pretty similar to AP Human Geography. It involves a lot of memorization and fact regurgitation... so expect to work hard for your A if you had to in Geography. However, you have experience on your side this time and you should have learned some effective study habits and time management skills this year, which helps a lot.

AP Psychology - same deal as AP World History.

Spanish III - If you got an A+ in Spanish II you'll be just fine. Spanish II involves a lot of vocab memorization, which many find difficult, but Spanish III is more about verb conjugations in numerous tenses, and sentence construction, which most find easier.

Honors English II should be about the same as Honors English I, so you shouldn't have any worries here.

In general, your schedule is going to be harder. But like I said, you are more accustomed to it this year and know what to expect, and you should have some good habits down by now. As such, you should be able to maintain all A's. But keep in mind it's not all about grades - it's about what you learned. It's much better to push yourself and get a B or two than to get easy A's.

Is my schedule too hard?

I'd suggest taking a class that is relevant to your career focus. For example, if you want to be a nurse/doctor, you don't really need physics, or you'd only need one at most. If you want to be a lawyer, again, you don't need physics. If you want to be involved in business, you don't really need physics ( I can't find any examples with physics that doesn't involve research or engineering).

So yes, taking a many APs will impress colleges, but I'm taking the highest classes I possibly can which involves two APs and two honors and I wonder every day how no one ever dies of this kind of stress. It's not fun, especially if you have sports on the side. Cross country at my school is about 2 1/2 hours every day including Saturdays and meets every once in awhile in the evenings.

It's adding another four AP courses and honors courses will not make your life in high school enjoyable, and think about it. Colleges would prefer if you did well in the classes high level classes you take that regard you major over another person who took a ton and short-circuted along the way, so APs don't matter if your grades are crappy.

The average number of AP classes a student at MIT took was five. MIT is mainly an engineering school, so the classes they probably took were AP Calc, AP Physics, AP Computer Science, AP Chemistry, AP Bio, or something relating. You don't need to take 10 AP classes to get into a good college. If you think you can handle it, go for it, but I wouldn't.

Is my schedule for 11th Grade TOO HARD?

Hey I'm a sophomore, and I was planning what classes to take next year. I really want to take as many AP's as possible, because 1) it looks better on college applications and 2) to keep my grades high (rank #1 currently). So here's my planned schedule for next year:

AP Calculus
AP Chemistry
AP U.S. History
AP English Language and Literature

Yes, that's right. I only have 4 classes that entire year, because our school uses block schedule and those are all year long classes. Is this just TOO HARD or is it possible to have all A+. I'm very, very, VERY math oriented, so AP Calc will probably be casual. I know AP Chem has lots of math involved, so that will be a little bit easier.
