A jury duty question????
I havent been called for dury duty or anything but i was just wondering what are the ways you can get out of dury duty?is there any other way other than medical reasons or you knowing the defendant.i would not like it one bit if i was called up for jury duty.it is completely against my morals to judge someone and i have hang ups about the law.i just think its weird.i thought it was against the law to make someone do something against their will.how do they justify it.

Maiden name is the term it think you were looking for. Just let them know you got married. No big deal, you are still the same person. don't ditch out, they'll just re summon you. If they think you are screwing with them they will probably give you a lecture, but they could find you in contempt and put you in a cell for a few hours until you apologize. That's pretty unlikely though. They're just asking you to do your civic duty. I'll bore you with a personal anecdote. When I was younger, I used to get notes from work to get me out of it. They changed the rules because half of the courts time was wasted with people getting out of it. So I'm with a group of prospective jurors, sitting in the hall waiting to be called n. There's a really high percentages of older folks (retired) who evidently weren't trying to get out of jury duty. A couple of them are looking through the window into a court room. One says to the other, "oh, he looks guilty". The second one says "Oh, yes he does." These people didn't know the charges, who this guy was, his story, anything. They weren't even in the same room. In three seconds, they saw a guy in an orange jumpsuit and decided he was guilty. That could have been me or you. What if I was out for a walk and fit a description? I didn't know I would need an alibi, so I didn't keep a list of anyone who might have seen me. If it ever happens, I want a jury of my peers, not a jury made up of people not smart enough to get out of jury duty. This shocked me more than any civics class could have. Peoples lives hang in the balance and some of them are innocent. I don't want a bunch of elderly people (I'm getting closer every day) who think my hair is too long, my shirt isn't normal, my boots make me look scary, sitting in judgment of me. want normal everyday people on my jury. A mother, a dentist, a girl with a pink mohawk, a businessman, a student, a crossing guard. A cross section of society, that's who I want to plead my case to. It doesn't get more important than that. Please, take your turn at jury duty. I might need you. 'll do the same for you.
Jury duty Help please (1st time) ! Im confused !
It sounds like the earliest you will have to report is on Wednesday August 13th. Trials are usually scheduled to start on a Monday, but cases get settled - often on the day set for trial, and some jury trials only last a couple of days. By late Tuesday, the court should know if more jurors will be needed in the coming week. So go to work tomorrow (Monday) and Tuesday - and call in after work on Tuesday. - If you are needed, you will be told what time to report on Wednesday - (It will probably be early in the morning) - I suspect you are low on the list and that the court already has enough jurors - so that on Tuesday after 5:00 you will be told that you are excused.

I was summoned for jury duty for a felony criminal trial in Onondaga County, New York State. As it was a felony it was on the county level. The defendant was an black kid, about 18, accused of attempted robbery. The victim apparently was into martial arts and defended himself. The assailant ran away and the police arrested the defendant later. I was dismissed from serving. While they did not tell me specifically why I truthfully told the defense attorney that I had been a victim of multiple crimes and that it wouldnt effect my ability to remain impartial. (I am a landlord and had done property management in a not very good area) When further asked if I understood what "the burden of proof" was I told the defense attorney that I understood it meant "beyond a reasonable doubt, not with absolute certainty. " I learned that if you disqualify yourself by stating things like prior acts would effect your ability to remain impartial that the county would recall you later for a civil trial. So its best to have them tell you that they didnt want you. While the jury system is important although flawed.
NJ Passaic County Jury Duty Questions?
1. If your first day is tomorrow, (Tuesday), and you're not selected for a jury, you still have to show up on Wednesday. If you are selected for a jury on Tuesday and the trial is over on Tuesday (possible), you're done. If it's a longer trial, you're there for the duration. 2. No worries. If you're selected for a jury, and the judge thinks that it will be a long trial, he / she will ask the jury pool if that presents a hardship. Speak up about your vacation plans then. But hardly any trials go on that long. 3. Hard to say. I've had to wait around the courthouse maybe three days, of the five or six times I've received the paper summons, and only been interviewed as a potential juror once. (That was a possible month-long trial; I had a hardship excuse.) Bring plenty of music and or reading material. Some courthouses have Wi-Fi, now. Mostly, it's a boring day.
