Laptop With 4gb Ram Ssd Or 8gb Ram Hdd

Which one can speed up a laptop better? RAM or SSD?

You as the user will see the biggest upgrade in speed with an SSD. Here's why: The slowest part of any computer system is I/O operations to the secondary storage which is your hard drive or SSD. That's why modern operating systems are designed to access this as infrequently as possible. The only speed up that you could experience in an upgrade in ram is the ability to have more processes loaded into that memory but in most modern operating systems a type of memory management is used called virtual memory that only pulls the current process(es) needed from the hard drive for a particular program and when another part of the program is needed, it's pulled from this special area on the drive where the virtual memory partition is stored. What this means for the average user is that while you may go from 4GB ram to 16GB ram it doesn't mean that the operating system will pull any more of the processes from virtual memory into main memory (RAM) for execution. So unless you're running an insane amount of processes or you're working with huge raw data like raw pictures or video, most users have no use for anything more than 4 or 8 gigs of ram and even off you had 32 GB of ram the access time to the drive would be the same and you'd see very little performance improvement.

Which laptop has better specs: 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD vs 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD?

Alot of it depends. Personally, I like to keep alot of tabs open and multi-task so the 8 gb of RAM is almost a must. I've also been spoiled by SSD's for a while so there's that. For a college student, I'm assuming the majority of your time on that computer is going to be spent typing papers, making spreadsheets, and taking notes. If this is the case, the 128gb ssd should be all you need. You need to take a look at what you'll be doing specifically. If you're going to be dealing with a lot of large files that cannot be stored in an external drive, then the 500 gb hdd will probably be better for you; however, the speed of the SSD is hard to discount.Me personally, I'd take the 8 gb with the ssd and invest in a rugged external hard drive if I was doing something like video/photo editing. The new macbook pros should have thunderbolt also so you might want to look at an external drive that supports that.I'm not very versed in this area but I do know that Lacie makes a very rugged external hard drive with thunderbolt.http://www.laciestorage.com/Rugg...

Which is better, 12GB RAM, 1TB HDD, 128 SSD, 16GB RAM, or 512 SSD?

Generally speaking, most of the time, running Windows you will not notice the difference between 12GB RAM and 16GB RAM. So the real decision is (1TB HDD and 128GB SSD) vs. 512GB SSD.For pure performance, I would choose the 512GB SSD. However, the 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD has an advantage in terms of storage space. Also, sometimes it’s nice to have two drives rather than one, because you can put the operating system on one drive (the 128GB SSD in this case) and the data on the other (1TB HDD). In this configuration, you are less vulnerable to losing your data if, for example, you get a virus or your OS gets corrupted and you have to reinstall.

Which laptop is better: i5-7200U with 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD vs i5-6200U with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD?

Wait a minute, you didn't mention the price difference cause for that price you can add an extra 4gb ram and a HDD into the laptop with 6th gen i5. You just make sure that the laptop has optical drive and then buy a hard drive enclosure that fits in optical bay. That thing is called caddy and comes in 3 sizes. Mostly newer laptops would need 9.5mm thickness. Now replace the optical drive with the caddy putting harddisk inside it.Now you have a blazing fast system with lots of storage. I agree you are not getting 7th gen processor but believe me it doesn't matter, you are gaining a lot by sacrificing a few MHz and some optimizations. Before you do this please note you won't be able to use optical drive.

Difference between 4gb and 8gb RAM in a laptop?

So, I'm looking to get a new laptop soon. And one of the things I was wondering is how big of a difference having more RAM makes. I use my laptop to write, read with the kindle app, itunes and surf the web (usually have about 4-5 tabs open.) Is 4gb plenty? WIll there be a big difference in speed between them or does proccessor speed matter more? Thanks.

Improving Laptop performance - SSD or HDD, Ram?

Hello everyone.

I have recently purchased a new laptop which I'm very pleased with, but it struggles a bit with mid-end gaming. The performance can be a bit sluggish and load-time lacks sometimes.

So I've been recently thinking of upgrading a few parts;

My first question is should I upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB. I will be playing quite demanding games that run HTML5 online and offline, will upgrading the RAM to 8GB show much difference?

My second question is whether upgrading my HDD to a SSD will improve gaming FPS, rendering, program and pc start-up speed? If so, what are the recommended low priced-mid range SSD's, do I have to look for something in particular or can I use any so long as it's a sata?

I've also heard of external Video cards? o_o

Thanks for any help and reading. :)

Laptop have core i3 processor, 4GB ram, 500GB hard drive. What should I replace for better performance either a RAM or hard drive with SSD or processor?

If you could reply with what exact model you have I could help you better. And The Generic tips areUpgrading your SSD will make your computer boot faster,Apps load fatser but if your processor is not powerful enough. You will face bottleNecking.Upgrading you Ram.I dont think that it will do any good, you have 4gb Ram its enough for an i3.And mentioning about an i3 laptop it wont allow you to upgrade ram to much bigger size. And in ram what matters is not storage, speed matters.Even you upgrade your Ram you will have the same MHz or else your motherboard should support a better speed.Upgarding your CPUDont even think about it.Laptops are not modular as Desktops are.You wont be able to upgrade your CPU until you are in the rarest scenario. And upgrading your cpu will cost you about a 75% of what you laptop costs as youre changing its brain.Personal recommendation.Upgrade to a SSD it will give you a slight boost in perfomance

Advice on new laptop?

Not a huge gamer but I like playing games like Football Manger, Cities Skylines and RCT World. Watching/storing all my films and photos. I like to have the most future prof I can afford. Budget £700. Thanks
