How can I learn English by myself?

The best way to learn a language is, has always been, will always be…immersion. The best way to learn English for anybody is not a teacher or tutor or classes, but just being thrown in an English-speaking country. If you spend a year in an Anglophone country like the UK, US, Canada, Australia, etc., even with no formal education or coaching, you will come out with a good bit of progress toward fluency. That being said, though, it is really difficult, and having that coaching certainly helps. There are a lot of free apps out there that help you learn English for free, like Duolingo or Babbel. They’re very good at basics like vocabulary and simple sentences, but they alone won’t make you fluent. Likewise, paid programs like Pearson or Rosetta Stone are also very good, and can even develop your grammar and speaking skills more than those free apps would. The shortfalls of all of these, though, is that when you’re learning English in a non-English world, and you only practice a little bit a day and there’s no formal motivation or assessment like there would be in a classroom setting, and these programs stop at a certain point, the rest of fluency is on you.Along with this, English is a very colloquial language, with lots of slang and borrowed words and exceptions to rules. And, British English and American English are very different, to make matters worse. So, without that structured explicit instruction, the real best way to become fluent, if it’s possible for you, is to just be around us. Watch English TV, read English news articles, listen to people speak to each other in English, go to the store and look at English-labeled products. You won’t know what they’re saying for a while, and it’ll be a long way off before you understand completely, but it’s a monumental first step. And you can use those apps or software programs as supports to get you started.I’ve never been to a Spanish-speaking country, so when I was learning Spanish, I would purposely browse Spanish news websites, and change my iPhone language to Spanish, and hosted an exchange student from Spain. It helped a lot. I’m now trying to do the same with French. Driving in Quebec was very frightening for me…Good luck!

I have been learning English for ten years. Why is my spoken English so bad?

Have you heard of the 10000 hour rule? You can master anything if you practice it for 10000 hours. The reason you haven't yet improved is because you haven't used English for 10000 hours. As it is very difficult for you to learn the English language for 10000 hours in the class room, the only way to master it is to use it in daily life. Look for opportunities to speak - don't worry even if you make mistakes. Build your vocabulary and start stringing words together to form sentences. Use your native language to fill in gaps for words you don't know - ask the person you are speaking to if he can help you fill the gap.Let me tell you my example - I lived in Japan for just over three years. The day I moved there, I greeted the waiter with "konnichiwa", Japanese for hello. That was one of the few words I had learnt before going to Japan. And from then on, I tried to speak in Japanese whenever I got a chance. In my early days in Japan, my colleague challenged me to do a business presentation in Japanese within one year. I did accept the challenge I attended a few hours of Japanese lessons through the year, probably 20-30 but more importantly I conversed with people around me with whatever broken Japanese I could speak. At first it was funny, but then it got better. Though at the end of the first year I wasn't confident to do a business presentation, I still tried. I didn't do too well :)But by the end of the second year I was doing not only internal presentations but also customer presentations in Japanese. And I made Japanese friends with whom I conversed in Japanese. I don't know whether you have people around you with whom you can converse in English - the only advice I can give you is use English wherever you can and you will get better. Make some friends with people who know English or have a mutual interest to learn English and converse. That is the only  way your Spoken English will get better. All the best!

Should everyone be expected to learn English?

English is a highly valued commodity and a global skill. If your company, organization or business does not have people capable of communicating in English (speak, read, write) your company will be behind other companies who have those people. Even if you operate a small shop in a small city in a small country without English as a business language, you will be competing with other shops who have people who have people who can speak in English.English is a tool for connecting with people outside of your language group. For example, even in China people from the north need to use English to communicate with people from provinces that use Cantonese (or other variants of standard Chinese impossible to understand without study). In many countries where multiple languages are present, unless you can speak all of those languages your best bet is to learn English if you want to communicate with people from those areas. Finally, English is currently the only language used as a common denominator for contemporary research, business practices, technology, and global issues, meaning if you intend to get involved in international work, politics, technological innovation, and so on, without English you will be at a severe disadvantage with your peers and competing agencies.

Will my 11year old yorkie get along with a new puppy English bulldog im getting?

There's absolutely no way we can tell you. We have no idea of the temperament of either of these individual dogs. I mean, to start with, does your Yorkie get along with other dogs?

There are certain things you should do to help ensure that they get along, though. Make sure you introduce them the right way:
http://www.mastiffonlinecommunity.net/vi...

Make sure you do not leave them unsupervised! This is important. It won't take long at all for the Bulldog puppy to be able to seriously injure the Yorkie. It would be a good idea to keep the puppy tethered to you on a long lead, and to crate one or both or them if you can't watch them, and/or utilize baby gates.

Make it clear to both of them what kind of behavior you want. If they're being good with each other, then reward them! Pet them, praise them, give them treats, play with them, whatever. Do not take it for granted that they know how you want them to behave.

Do let the Yorkie scold the puppy if the puppy's being a brat. This is how puppies learn. If the puppy is getting on the Yorkie's nerves, it's fine for the Yorkie to growl, air-snap or bark at the puppy to reprimand him.

Make sure you get the puppy right into a puppy kindergarten class. Socialize him! He needs to learn how to interact with other dogs -- including, but not limited to, your Yorkie.

What future does learning English literature have?

Unless you plan to teach it or engage in further study of it ,for instance continuing to a masters or PHD. A future depending simply on an English Literature Degree is pretty chancy. However, if studied alongside journalism, History, Politics it may help you to achieve decent job prospects. On it’s own all it can do for you is convince a future employer of your ability to work hard since the degree is pretty labour intensive so to speak. Approaching English Literature from a more personal stance I would say that it is so personally satisfying, so broadening for the mind and so worthwhile it will bring benefits for life. I admit I may be slightly biased since I studied it myself, however, I had a fantastic career in training and development and I will always credit my grounding in English Literature with my ability to engage with others on their level. Hope this helps

Why is it so hard for mexicans to learn English?

English is a very difficult language to learn. You cannot expect adults, all adults have a reduced capacity to learn language, to pick up English when it is highly irregular, different from Spanish, and sometimes lacking in incentive to learn.

Can English speakers get along easily in Quebec?

In the province of Québec you need to speak French to get by. You will not be treated well if you don’t and you shouldn’t expect people to speak English to you; the overwhelming majority can’t or won’t.The exception is the island of Montréal where there is a small minority of English speakers. Also, Montréal is a business centre and of course English is the language of business so many of the people there have no choice but to learn English. You will hear English on the street there, nevertheless there is still a strong bias against Anglophones.
