Loss My Voice From Cold

I lost my voice from a cold, what can I do?

I got sick on Sunday and lost my voice Monday. I have a cough, nasal congestion, and a runny nose. I'm taking a bunch of medicine for my awful sore throat and drinking warm liquids only because cold ones hurt really bad. What can I do to regain my voice? I missed school today and slept a lot, took a warm shower that helped my nose and missed work yesterday. I have work today later and I don't want to call out but if I have to, I will. I haven't said a word since yesterday either and I'm just trying to not talk as much, if at all. Is there anything I can do to get my voice back? :/

What can I do if I lost my voice from a cold?

Sudden loss of your voice after catching a cold is because you are suffering from Acute laryngitis. Laryngitis is acute inflammation of larynx or the voice box. Most acute cases of laryngitis ( also called as sore throat ) are caused by viral infections presenting with fever , hoarseness or sudden loss of voice due to swelling of the vocal cords. Inflamed larynx causes redness and swelling due to which one suffers from pain and hoarseness thereby having difficulty using their voice. Some may also experience difficulty or pain while swallowing . Almost everyone suffers from viral laryngitis at least once in their lifetime and the condition usually subsides within a week. Persistent hoarseness or loss of voice for more than 2 weeks duration requires medical intervention. If your symptoms are sudden and acute :Complete voice rest is very essential till your symptoms subside as straining your voice can cause more pain and not allow the inflammation to heal.Warm salt water gargles - 3 times a day regularly.Steam Inhalation - 2 to 3 times/dayHome remedies :Honey - Grandma’s age old remedy of honey being the most effective remedy in sore throat is very true. Honey has been used for centuries to treat allergic cough and hoarse voice. Take a spoonful of honey at bed time or along with your tea everyday.Herbal teas - Most herbal teas like chamomile ,peppermint ,ginger , green teas have medicinal properties which can help sooth the irritation and pain in larynx.Plenty of Oral fluids to keep your body hydrated.Have a soft ,pureed and bland diet which makes the food easier to swallow and prevent throat irritation. Avoid citrous and spicy foods.Seek help from a medical professional if symptoms don't improve and pain/fever persists.Consult your doctor if your complaints last more than a week to rule our chronic laryngitis and other anomalies.

Lost my voice from cold?

okay, on thursday (5/23/13), i caught a cold and by sunday (5/26/13) i was coughing, had stuffy nose- the usual. then on tuesday (5/28/13), my whole class and i went on a trip to six flags the whole entire day and i didnt cough too much (i had cough drops) on the bus ride to there/bus ride home/rollercoasters/walking around six flags/etc. then on the bus ride home from the trip, i got really hyped up from having fun (yelling, making jokes, laughing loudly) and my voice dropped really low (like my voice is somewhat low but it dropped REALLY low- so low i sounded like my younger brother who's going thru puberty- probably even lower). but when i woke up wednesday morning, i couldnt speak at ALL. my voice croaked and people could only hear me whisper. but each day, my voice started to come back, so i became encouraged to force myself to speak and i like to talk A LOT when im with my friends- not to mention LAUGH a lot.

now, it has been 5 days since i've lost my voice and from what i heard on other yahoo answers similar to my question, they said to drink warm water, get good rest, and NOT to whisper/talk because it damages your vocal folds/chords...

i am honestly scared that i will lose my ability to ever sing high notes (im in my school choir and im singing a song for my 8th grd promotion; im also doing a speech) because i had no idea that whispering and talking in a low voice would damage your vocal folds. the song im singing for my 8th grd promotion is a somewhat of a high-pitched song and i can barely reach the notes now. before i lost my voice, i was able to reach the notes just fine. but now im seriously scared that i can never reach those notes again.

is there any hope left that i will gain my ability to sing normally again AND talk normally again??? :'/

Lost my voice because of cold & cough. Help?!?

I have had a cold for a little over a week, and over the past 4 or so days I developed a cough as well. My voice started cracking about 3-4 days ago, and yesterday I lost it completely. I couldnt talk at all, only whisper. Today is a little bit better, but I have been talking more than I should so it seems to be going backwards in progress. I am trying not to talk, but my job (and life in general) requires me to speak often. I have been trying to drink tea and do salt water gargles, but that is the only advice that I got. Is there anything else that I can be doing to get my voice back a little quicker? I also developed a cough over the past few days as well, but it has been really bad the past day--I spent all last night coughing, and it worries me that the cough is going to put me back a couple more days, or does it not really matter?? I just want to know what else I can be doing, and what to expect. Any advice welcomed!

Thanks,
Amy

Every time I get a cold, I lose my voice. Why?

ENT - ears nose and throat, they're all connected. Sometimes the bug/virus can travel from the sinuses to the throat, so you end up with a runny nose and a sore throat. It sucks :(

I have lost my voice completely after a cold?

What ever you do, do not try to use your voice, you can damage your vocal cords that way. Let your voice rest until you can see the doctor. Has your ten month daughter had a runny nose also?

I'm starting to lose my voice from my cold?

»»»»»» Seems like a case of a common cold + a throat infection, probably not Bronchitis or laryngitis. If i were you, i'd take the day off from school because it sounds contagious and it's not gonna be fully fixed that fast. Maybe your going to need some anti-biotics... or it's just a tiny infection or type of cold. I would ask your doctor.

And yes drink some hot tea- NO ARIZONA BOTTLED STUFF those don't help as much.
Also, use a little remedy i always use. Take a cup of water, squeeze some lime in it, heat it up and pour in some honey and gurgle some salt before you go to bed

Recently I’ve had a cold and I kinda lost my voice, my chest voice and head voice are still intact but my falsetto became extremely weak and cracks frequently, sounding like a seal and my whistle register is completely gone. What can I do?

DON’T SING!!!!!! I cannot emphasize this enough - D-O N-O-T S-I-N-G !!! Wait until your throat has completely healed. 8 or 10 years ago I sang a number of songs at a lunch party at work with my karaoke setup, barely a week after having had laryngitis. The same loss of falsetto and vocal problems ensued for me.turns out I had developed a couple of nodes on my vocal cords. I had to go up to UCSF and have photos taken with a camera down my throat - an extremely painful and uncomfortable process! - and then was basically told to shut up for 3 months - NO singing and as little talking as I could manage. The nice part was it got me excused from managing the help desk telephone for that period, long enough that it got passed on to a different group. Also had a funny experience. I had several CDs that had been recorded of me singing at karaoke. One night I couldn’t stand it anymore, brought one of the CDs and gave it to the KJ and got up and lip-synced to myself!I also had to go to a vocal therapist for several weeks to retrain me how to speak properly. Fortunately, the nodes healed up and went away during that three month period. but it definitely wasn’t worth it. I sincerely hope you haven’t gone so far down that road that you need to do the same thing.

How do I get back my lost voice?

First you need to ascertain what has caused you to loose your voice. The reason can be due to certain medical condition or misuse/overuse of voice or even functional/psychological.You should consult a speech/voice therapist if one is available close to you. If not available, consult a good qualified ENT who can investigate the reason and refer you to a good speech/voice therapist.
