Lump On My Back Near My Shoulder Blade - What Could This Be

What's the lump between my dog's shoulder blades?

(Of course, I am going to take him to the vet first thing in the morning, but am curious as to whether someone might be able to identify the problem for me right now)

Since I had to work all day I brought my dog to doggy daycare (he usually goes twice a week). My mother picked him up for me because I was still at work. When I came home I noticed a large lump right between his shoulder blades that had most definitely not been there this morning when I dropped him off. I haven't yet had time to ask my mother whether she'd seen it when she picked him up. The fact that it developed so suddenly--in just a matter of hours--makes me think it's unlikely that it's cancer. I can't find any kind of tissue damage to suggest that he was bitten at daycare, causing swelling. He just turned one year old and got his shots last week, between the shoulders. It could be that, but wouldn't that be a very late reaction to the shots?
Any ideas?

What is this on my shoulder blade?

How about now I've added another pictureI am sorry I do not know what this is, I am not a doctor, I am a dentist who knows about muscle pain, not skin lesions.I am sorry I cannot help you.

How do you treat a strained back in between the shoulder blades?

From the limited information provided, it seems there is no history of acute trauma that would be necessary for a tear in muscle fibres or dislocation of joints as suggested in another answer. There are multiple possibilities at this point of time from a diagnostic perspective with the limited history available.Facet joint subluxationMuscle spasmLigament sprain All of thes above will produce a painful response to some movement and not others. All of the above have inflammatory response involved.I strongly recommend visiting a musculoskeletal physiotherapist if possible. If that is not an option, try anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen and icing the area of the soreness and let the inflammatory response settle down.Do NOT protect it by avoiding movement. Keep normal movement happening as much as possible. Gradually stretch the area of stiffness more using any stretching techniques that works best for you.Look out for pain during cough or sneeze or deep breaths. That may indicate rib fractures or even intervertebral disc injury. Also, look out for radiating pain that travels into the chest or into the arms as that could indicate worsening of the primary cause of the injury.

What are the risks of having a lump on my back near my shoulder blade?

Small pea sized lump or bump on shoulder blade?

I have a small lump on my shoulder I noticed a few weeks ago. I'm not sure how long it's been there... Only that I got a full length mirror and when I turned around there it was. It's small, about te size of a pea. It is fairly hard but doesn't change shape if I press on it. The skin covering it is slightly brownish grey, and always a bit dryer and flakier than the surrounding skin (which is clear) I do tend to get a bit of cystic acne on my chin, an from time to time on my shoulders but it heals up fast and this seems to not be going away. Also when I press on it it's not sore at all. I don't want to worry over nothing, but at the same time I do worry. I've had a persistent cough an cold for a little over a month, and I recently (past couple days) started developing little sores inside my nose from the cold. I live on a military base is Germany so getting into the hospital isn't easy. I dont want to go if the reason isn't really important. Does anyone know what this could be?

Painful lump between spine and shoulder blade?

I am an 18 year old, active male and I have a large lump along the right side of my spine right under my shoulder blade. I cannot feel any boundaries, it seems to just taper into my back. The lump itself is sore and my back around it is sore as well, but it is not painful to touch or press the lump unless it is done hard. I only have it on the one side and have only noticed it in the past couple days, although my back has been hurting for weeks and I only recently started rubbing the sore areas myself for relief until I found this. What could this be? Should I see a doctor, or could it go away over time?

Pain under right shoulder blade?

Stick your shoulder blade out and have someone feel the area slowly under the right shoulder blade to see if they feel a lump. If they do ask them to massage the lump until you feel relief.

There are tendons and muscles that can get out of place or something happen to them and you will feel a lump there.

We had to call an ambulance for my husband as this happened to him and he was in terrible pain. The EMT's thought he was having a heart attack. After negative EKG and X-Ray while he was in a room in the ER I had him move to his side and I began to message the area under his shoulder where he said it hurt. I found the lump and called the doctor to show him and by massaging it the pain finally stopped and we went home with muscle relaxers. He only had to take the muscle relaxers about 3 times.

After that each time it happened I knew what to do to release the knot and stop the pain and after about a month he stopped having the problem. Apparently the massage of that area put whatever it was back in place and he never again had a problem with it.

Try it and see if it works. Also you could have a growth or lipoma in that area that is pressing on a nerve. A lipoma is a fluid filled lump that people can get in different areas of their body and they can be painful and press on nerves. Sometimes you can pop them by moving a certain way but they will fill right back up with fluid and the cycle starts over again. My son had a large one removed last year from his back on his shoulder blade. Have someone check the outside of your shoulder blade to see if they feel a lump there also.

You probably need to see your physician to check to see what the problem is in case it is something more serious.

Hope this helps.

Why are my shoulder blades the itchiest part of my back?

Well the shoulder area is not only the hardest to scratch, it also gets a lot of things that would itch: hair, tags, for women, bras, etc. Make sense? When we lay at night it is our shoulder area that has a lot of contact with pillows, wrinkles from our pajamas if you were them, sheets, etc. This area can itch as well from pain.

Soft lump on dog's shoulder?

First off, this is not my dog, and that's the truth. I'm not saying it's not my dog to shirk the responsibility of her. To be honest, if I had my way, I would rehome this dog, even if her owner cares about her.

Now. The dog in question is a...mutt. I'd say she's primarily a pitbull type dog. Pepper was found in a parking lot in Georgia by her first owner. Her first owner was not able to keep her and then gave her to another guy. He said all she gave him (as far as Pepper's things/papers) was a bowl and a food container. Pepper is now 10 months old. Talking to her owner last night, he said he was unsure whether Pepper has had any of her shots, and she has not been spayed. However, I don't even think she's been through her first heat cycle... He is intending to take her to the vet very soon, but that could be this week or in a month. I don't have control of her vet visits, so telling me to take her is...pointless. She's just a very sweet dog and I care about her a lot.

Anyway, I visited their place last night. She was very excited and when I was greeting her, she yelped. At that point I had just been petting her all over. Later on in the night, another guy was rough housing and she yelped again. I looked in her ears, nothing. Started running my hands over her and found a soft lump on her right shoulder, maybe golf ball sized. It was very squishy, but kept it's shape. She did not yelp when I would touch it. Once showed her owner, he said a few weeks ago his housemates had been tossing logs (the live out in the country) with Pepper out in the yard. He was not with them but he suspects they may have hit her with a log. She was limping for a few days and was very sensitive. She isn't limping now, but has that lump on her shoulder.

I'm wondering...could the lump be due to an injury, and could it be serious? Muscle damage? My own dog has a cyst on her back, but it is much harder than Pepper's lump, and is benign. Honestly, I don't think this lump she's got is life-threatening, and since I don't know how soon he'll take her to the vet, I want an idea of whether it actually *could* be serious so I can badger him into taking her if it might be.

So any idea what this could be? Can dogs get fluid-filled things from injuries? Or is this just a harmless cyst that could be drained?
