Please help I really suck at geomatry :( I don't want to fail this exam that's coming up again

lets come up with two equations then use substitution to work them out first the angles @ 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock = each other.....so 90 - 4y = 50 - 2x then, the three angles on one side of the line add up to 180..... (2x + 3y) + (x + 5y) + (50 - 2x) = 180 x + 8y + 50 = 180 solve for x in one of the equations.... x = 180 - 8y - 50 x = 130 - 8y then insert x into the other equation(never into the same one) 90 - 4y = 50 - 2(130 - 8y) 90 - 4y = 50 - 260 + 16y 90 - 4y = -210 + 16y 300 = 20y 15 = y insert y back into one of the equations 90 - 4(15) = 50 - 2x 90 - 60 = 50 - 2x 30 = 50 - 2x 2x = 20 x = 10 verify 2x + 3y + x + 5y + 50 - 2x = 180 2(10) + 3(15) + 10 + 5(15) + 50 - 2(10) = 180 20 + 45 + 10 + 75 + 50 - 20 = 180 ....yes

To get rid of the x's on the right, you need to subtract 8x, but since the equation is equal on both sides, you also have to subtract an 8x on the left to keep the two sides equal 11x - 8x - 8 = 8x - 8x + 1 3x - 8 = 1 Now we need to get x by itself, so to get rid of the -8, we have to add 8 to both sides (anything you do to one side, do the same to the other to keep it equal) 3x - 8 + 8 = 1 + 8 3x = 9 Finally divide both sides by 3 to get x all by itself 3x/3 = 9/3 x = 3
