Motivation For School

I Have No Motivation for School. What Should I Do?

ugh I feel like your describing me. Exactly. But it was slightly different with me, I was really really good in school (I procrastinated, but I always did really well) then my mom had a heart attack, and suddenly I lost all motivation. She's fine, but I havent been the same since. That was in Grade 11. I'm in 1st year university now, and its still really tough. I just try to force myself to work, and I try to take everything in little steps. So instead of saying "I need to write an essay." I'll say "I need to write a paragraph." that way I always feel like I'm doing "more" than I really am. Also, I find that lists help. So I'll make a list of things I need to do, (and always listed in those little steps) and then I check things off as I go. I find it really satisfying checking them off.

Also, I found out about 6 months ago that I developed ADD, so you could look into that if you think its possible.

EDIT: another thing I do is I try to reward myself often. So instead of just saying "I'm gunna watch a movie." I'll say "When I finish this paper, I'll watch a movie!" and then its like a reward rather than just doing it. Also, take frequent breaks. Dont try to sit down for hours and work. work for like half an hour at a time, with say 10 minute breaks to do whatever. But ALWAYS come back to your work.

I hope you resolve this problem before university. I didn't, and I had to work through it here, and its tough. Best of luck!

School motivation?

Well, start by making sure you understand what you're being taught. Otherwise your presence in school is pointless. Stay organized so you can easily keep track of all your assignments. Make sure you actually do the assignments. The biggest thing is to not be lazy. That will void all the work you put in. Stay organized and on top of your assignments, and do not ever be lazy with the work. Do that, and you're golden.

Lost motivation for school....?

I know what you mean. I'm going through that this year as well. Mainly, it is because I already have enough points for Uni and feel like I'm wasting time doing this year at school. Everything's just so repetitive and monotonous and boring. I am exactly like you here. It sucks, doesn't it?

What I can say, though, is that it does pass. Instead of thinking how boring and torturous this year is, think of all the stuff you can do before it all ends. After all, it is your last year of high school ever. Start thinking about all the things you've wanted to do in school, and do them, as it's your last chance. Get to know some people you don't know very well. Get to know your teachers better. Think about whatever you are going to do next year; do you need more points for University? Are you going to go into work? Figure out what you've got to do for it. Just try and get excited about your last year and make the most of it.

If that fails, I'm going to say you should just dig it in and put your head down and nail through it. If you need the good marks, just do the work and suffer through it. It will be finished soon, and then you're home free and you will be proud of yourself for it. Also, if you drop out of school now, it will not look good on your record. Future employers, universities and whatever else will question why you left. It will look like you have no staying power; as if when the going gets tough, you get going. It would look unreliable.

In any case, and with whatever you do, I'd recommend you stay and finish school for the year. Not only would it be cool to graduate with your class, but it will be seen as a good thing to see you can stick with it and put in the hard yards. Try and make the year better and put your head down to set yourself up for the future.

Hope that helps! Good luck :)

I need motivation to go to school?

i’m 13 (female) and in grade 8. so back in 5th grade is started missing A LOT of school (30+ days) and i continued missing in 6th grade (i missed about 40 days in grade 6). around march in grade 6 (i get out of school for summer break in may) i talked to my grandparents (i live with them) about home schooling because i was so scared and nervous to even go to school (everyone asked me why i missed so much). i ended up being home schooled from march in grade 6 to now. i really wanna go back to school. (i wouldn’t be going to the schoo i used to go to, i would be going to this one school where people with anxiety and just problems go to). i was excited to try and go a few days ago and now i don’t even know if i wanna go anymore. i don’t have to go i can continue being homeschooled if i want. my sisters go and they say it’s realky nice there. how do i get motivated to go again?? please help.

I need motivation to go to school.?

It sounds like one of your first stops should be at the guidance counselor's office. It sounds like there is more going on than just plain typical motivation issues. And by now, you need an academic recovery plan in addition to a motivation plan.

Among other things, it sounds like you have no goals, a passion, a drive, a sense of need, or a sense of being needed. 14 is a pretty young age at which to give up in life.....

If your only motivators for going to school is to meet up with friends and have fun then, it is not exceptionally surprising that you are not as motivated anymore. And, it sounds like you're not particularly afraid of parental disappointment or punishment fear. Nor does it sound like you are particularly fearful of "what may happen" in terms of the school administration; either that or you are too afraid to address and solve. It is also likely that you are missing some critical academic skills that you are being called upon to use in your 8th grade work; not being able to succeed is sort of a downer in and of its self.

The question is, are you entering a depression, struggling socially or academically due to a lack of skills you should have already learned, or are you just now beginning to face a reality that not everything is "fun". Rather, that "fun", satisfaction, and motivation is often achieved only though successfully meeting challenges. Right now, it sounds like you have a number of challenges in front of you. The question is how can you maneuver through them?

In part, this is likely to require some negotiation with your school's administration and likely individual teachers as well. Further, going to talk to your guidance counselor and owning your actions is a learning, growing, and grown up thing to do. Owning your actions also means owning your mistakes and the remedies for your mistakes. Often, it is done one sub-task at a time, one hour at a time, and eventually one day at a time.... Do you have some substance issues as well? Overcoming substance issues, depression, and poor habits tend to all take the same path: making an empowered decision to take it one sub-task at a time, one hour at a time, and eventually one day at a time until you can see your way to one week, one month, one school term, one year, and even further into the future.

I have no motivation in school anymore?

It's senior year, I'm already done with the SATs and college applications, and for the past 2 weeks I slept in half of my classes and I can't seem to get myself to do anything. My grades are going down. Advice? Most of my colleges don't require a midterm report, but they still require all passing grades in the final report At this rate, I'm not gonna pass any class.

I lost my motivation for school. What should I do?

This is simple.Your motivation source - whatever that was - is gone, so you need to find a new one.Since you had provided absolutely no details about yourself - aside from the world being ridiculously against you and the tragedy of not being on the honor roll, I can only go with what I have: my life experience and my practical approach. To that extent, the only way to cure your blues is for you to assume the responsibilities of adulthood. With whatever experience and schooling you have, go out and get a paying job, get an apartment, and move out. If you're mentally done with school, then there's no need to prolong this agony, and you are better off separating yourself from the annoyances of youth such as education. If you take this to heart, and start applying for jobs, you will soon learn that employers do not look kindly at those who do not have the minimum education completed (no, not HS but Bachelor degree).Still, if you think that you know better than working for someone and would rather be your own boss, there's no one stopping you from opening your own business and hiring others to work for you.I wonder if you will hire high school drop outs - just think about this for a moment.(This also implies that the lack of your presence on that honor roll resulted in many hours to spare, and you had utilized them to develop either a business idea or some remarkable skill which you can now use to monetize - your time has come!)If you do not have any special skills and no one will hire you to work for them (dog walking and remote personal assistant excluded from the career pools), then you can only finish your education and spend your time a bit more wisely to occupy your mind.

I have no more motivation for school anymore?

All my life I have been a straight A student, but starting recently, especially this year, I have not had any motivation to keep my grades up. My classes are boring, and our school system is terrible. They give us about four hours of homework per night which I have just plain stopped doing all together. I have no intention of dropping out since I do actually care about my future, and I ensure that I always have a passing grade in all of my classes.
In school I am always tired and usually just zone out during lectures. At home I prefer to read or watch anime rather than work. It is my sophomore year of high school, so I doubt that it is good to lose motivation this early on. What can I do to actually be somewhat motivated? I have a C in history, and I know my mom is just going to take away my computer. When she does that, I resort to reading. I never do get my homework done even when she does that.

I'm 15 and I've lost all motivation for school. I still do my work and somehow pass but I feel 'bone-tired' and and have no motivation. I feel like I'm watching myself from a distance. Any thoughts?

Well the first question you might ask yourself could be well, why? Why have you lost motivation for school? and so then you might think ok, so…why was i ever even motivated in the first place? and you really need to sit down and think seriously about that. Many kids go to school and work for no other reason than they were told that that’s what they had to do by their parents, by society and that’s that. Those same kids end up over time feeling like slaves to their environment. They feel fed up, burnt out and deflated and that all builds up into bitterness and resentment for the school, for teachers, for their parents and often for the whole educational system I’m not by any means assuming that that’s why you’re feeling unmotivated but it’s a familiar pattern that occurs in that when students fail to have their own authentic justifiable reason for wanting to study then their motivation inevitably plummets. We all know kids hate math for example because they don’t know why they’d ever need it or have to use it. There’s no deep internal reason they have to justify studying math for because the future they have in their mind either doesn’t demand it, or because they haven’t thought deeply enough about their future. So ask yourself:Why are you studying? What are you studying for? and how does that affect your future? What are the positive and negative consequences of half arsing it vs going all in on your studies? because it all matters down the line.If you have a clear vision of where you’re heading and where you don’t want to be then keeping that vision in mind will almost always help with motivation when its in short supply. You’ve just got to be really honest about yourself and your intentions moving forward in the world because man, you’re 15.FIFTEEN!!!The worlds your oyster.
