Motorcycle Tank Scratch Repair

How do you fix scratches from a dropped motorcycle?

I recently purchased a used Ninja 250r as a first bike. I bought the bike from a good friend and runs fine, but it has been dropped. I want to clean the bike up so it will be more aesthetically pleasing, but Im not too sure how to go about it. There are some considerable scratches on the right fairing as well as the right muffler. Is there a DIY way to fix the scratches... if not do you know a reputable dealer where I can purchase the fairing/muffler. Any help will be most appreciated. Thanks

Motorcycle repair, hole in frame? jb weld?

i found a one inch hole on the bottom of the frame the problem is i see no sines of rust or rot infact it looks like a precion cut ( its not a hole, its staight across) as if it was done by a dremmel, since i dont think it will safety like that (or will it?) i've decided to repair it, since im not that good at welding i was going to give a guy down the road twenty bucks to mig it, but i found some stuff that i was wondering if would work, its called jb weld, i went to there web site and they claim it will hold engine blocks together, and permantley fix broken crank cases etc. (and its vibration proof and 500 degree heat proof since its rite beside the exhaust) will this stuff work? and will i have to sand over it and paint it so the guy who safteys it wont see it?
p.s. i know welding it would be the better choice but i dont want to push it 2km to his building

Powder coating on a motorcycle look as good as a paint job?

As buster said this is really meant for frames and wheels. There is a down side. If you suffer a chip or scratch it is darn near impossible to repair as the coating is very very hard and will not sand down like a paint finish. Nor can you spot repair like painted finishes. Durable but difficult to touch up.

How can I remove scratch marks from the tank of my Royal Enfield classic 350?

Assess the depth and number of scratches . A surface scratch can possibly be buffed out but a deeper scratch reaching the bare metal / primer layer may require a more professional approach. For shallow scratches , you may use - in succession :Polish and a microfiber cloth to buff the scratch out.Use a finishing compound such as 3M perfect it to polish the whole tank, restoring the entire finish.Use a more abrasive - rubbing / restoring compound like the 3M ‘Finesse it’ product to take away more paint from the surface , followed by step 2 and 1.A deeper scratch would imply that you may need to replace paint on the tank - Many companies make small spray paint cans that are matched to your paint and you can respray and blend in the paint. Be advised however that this is not a task for the average DIY biker and you may end up ruining the entire tank finish if you mess up the process. It may also need some specialized tools and chemicals to get it perfectly right. Specialized scratch markers can help fill in the scratch with a similar color so that the appearance is not conspicuous.A better , simpler option is to use a sticker to cover the scratch. A decal or a pattern can pimp up your ride at little cost. This has the added benefit that whatever caused the scratch in the first place will not affect the sticker again, easily.Scratches that are improperly treated can lead to long term damage to the metal , leading to rust, peeling / flaking paint and then finally, weld failure necessitating tank replacement. This is most problematic on the underside of the tank.

What happens if gas spills on the tank of a motorcycle? Will it eat up the clear coat? Will it leave a stain?

Spilled Gas leaves stain on the clear coat. It doesn't react on the clear coat. If you had waxed your motorcycle, Gas spillage would have removed the wax coating. If there is Gas spillage on painted surface of your vehicle, wait a lil while for it to dry. Wash with plain water using a soft cotton rag. Do not use paper towel to wipe Gas spill. Using paper to wipe Gas spill would scratch the clear coat. When time permits, wash vehicle with mild hair shampoo or good car shampoo, thoroughly rinse with water, wipe dry with cotton rag, let dry in shade, wax vehicle's painted surface.

How do I remove a paint scratch on a black bike at home?

It doesn't look like the paint has chipped off. Try this:Wash the area thoroughly with cold water, while rubbing it with a microfiber cloth.Pat it dry and apply any regular toothpaste (Colgate/Pepsodent) generously on the area.Rub the area with a cloth again, while applying pressure.Wash the toothpaste off immediately. If the scratch still persists, use an Emery Paper (you can get it in any paint/hardware shop. Ask for EP 2500) and gently rub over the scratches perpendicular to the direction of the scratch. Do it really gently and only for a small amount of time (20 seconds tops), otherwise the paint gets scratched as well. Finally, apply a coat of polish (dashboard polish is available in sachets for as low as Rs.20 apiece).
