Movie About Dad Coming Home From War

The movie "The Others" why does charles "the dad" leave on the movie the others? and where does he go? etc...

The dad looks as though he has come back from war and that it has ended, but it is suspicious the way he is acting very day-dreamy and lost. He knows that they are all dead anyway but she doesn't know yet that they are all dead because she killed herself and her children. He doesnt go back to war he goes to heaven so he never walked out he just disappeared like a ghost.

What great movie scene moment beats the "I am your father" moment from Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back for you, and why do you like it?

That one is most likely unbeatable. The only one that comes close is in EP 6, when Luke is fighting Darth Vader in front of Darth Sidious. During the fight, when it becomes obvious that this will end in a draw or Luke may even win, he will not turn and take his father’s place at Darth Sidious’ side. He cuts Darth Vader’s hand off after he’s told that if he will not turn perhaps his sister will. His sister Leia was unknown to be related up to this point, But Luke thought about her during the battle and Darth Vader felt it, told him so, and told Darth Sidious.Luke became so angry he used his anger to win the fight with Darth Vader (using the Dark Side (cause he is fighting very angry) then looked at his same hand that is missing and now replaced like his father’s that he just cut off that was already a replacement. The line this leads to that is my answer is “I will not turn, I am a Jedi like my father before me.” and he throws his lightsaber away. Sidious sees Vader defeated, on the floor missing a hand, and now knows Luke can never be turned. Sidious can only defeatedly say “Very well, Jedi.”

How often do soldiers come home to no one? I see those "coming home" YouTube videos and wonder how many brave men and women have no one to greet them.

I had no real family to go to when I was getting out of the service because my father had broken up the family. That’s actually why I joined. I was the only one left in the house and my father only occasionally brought food (he lived with his mistress). Sometimes I would have nothing to eat for a week at a time. That was during Vietnam and you couldn’t get a job at age 17 unless you were in a draft deferred status. You pretty much had to be well off to go to college at the time. at least where I lived. That didn’t include me, so decided to enlist. I didn’t know much about the military. I wasn’t particularly afraid but I didn’t see myself marching around. It looked like something I wouldn’t want to do. So I decided to go to Journal Square in Jersey City, NJ and see the Navy and Air Force recruiters. I never got out of the Navy Recruiter’s office to see what the Air Force had to offer. They sent me to boot camp in a very cold place in January, then to Radioman school, then to an old destroyer in the Pacific. Aboard the destroyer I still didn’t have anywhere to go when I got out, so I re-enlisted and asked for combat duty in Vietnam. They sent me to Vietnam, but when I realized that the US press was going to force a withdrawal I decided not to stay another year. They sent me to a small island, where the Navy tracked Russian submarines. Then they sent me to New York City, where I was born. I was petty officer in charge of communications for a headquarters, initially based in lower Manhattan. One of my jobs was to destroy old secret and top secret messages, but I needed an officer to cosign on the latter. So there was this really cute red-head female lieutenant junior grade that I decided was well qualified to help.We ended up getting married in 1972. So then I had a family. We’re still married but now we have 3 children, 2 daughters in law, one son in law, plus 2 young women we helped through the years who regard us as sort of parents, and 7 grandchildren.

Is not wanting your husband to join the military selfish?

I don't want him to walk out on me or his kids that I'll be raising by myself without a father. I don't want him to never come back home or have children without a father. Is this selfish of me? I don't want to be alone and him to be dead for all I know fighting some war and dying for people that don't care.

Why did Dakota Fanning scream a lot in "War of the Worlds"?

Thank god! I thought I was the only one who found her really annoying in that movie. I also didn't like the teenage son (who miraculously survived somehow) of Tom Cruise's character. The world is coming to an end & those two kids still kept giving the Dad grief.

Top 5 favorite scenes in ANY movie...EVER.?

What are your top 5 favorite scenes in a movie? They dont need to be ranked.
Mine:
1.) The Weather Man- Nicholas Cage and Michael Caine in his car listening to "Like A Rock" having a very deep conversation.
2.)The Road To Perdition- Okay, every scene in this movie is flawless, but I guess the scene where he is walking down the hall way to kill someone, the camera work and music choice makes the scene so powerful.
3.) Imaginary Heroes- The scene where the boy comes home only to see Jeff Daniels peering into his journal and explains to him that he is his the boys father even though they aren't on the best of terms and he isn't his biological father.
4.) The Money Pit- When Tom Hanks finally snaps when his bath tub falls through the floor, hilarious.
5.) A River Runs Through It- The final scene when Brad Pitts brother is aged and he is fly fishing, Robert Redfords narroration is brilliant.

P.S. If you say the last 10 minutes of Titanic I get to slap you in the face.
