I'm moving from New Hampshire to New Orleans?!?!?

My husband just got married and he got a great job, which means we would have to relocate to Louisiana. I've NEVER been out of New England before so I'm really nervous. But super excited

We're going to be living right by the French Quarter.

What should we aspect?
What's there to do?
How is the atmosphere? City itself?
Festivals, parades, holidays.

Basically what should we expect from New Orleans?

Which city in New Hampshire is closest to Boston?

Salem is the closest, about a 35 minute ride right down route 93 (with no traffic). It's closer than Nashua.
The biggest one would be Manchester which is about 15 minutes drive further up on route 93 than Salem.
Definitely easier to fly in to Manchester than Logan.

What should I keep in mind when planning to move over to New Orleans?

City services are disorganized and customer service is often horrible. Be prepared for some hassle. We don’t refer to directions using N S E W. Learn to identify which way it is to the river or lake, uptown or downtown.Bourbon St is stupid. Find better places to go. If you are in the quarter stay on well-populated streets. Walk like you know where you’re going and you belong there. Also, wear intimidating shoes. All of your eccentricities are welcome! Even if it’s just a stupid hat, like a fedora.Don’t move here to live in Jefferson Parish. Or St Tammany, good lord. Live in Orleans Parish like you mean it. The increase in car insurance prices is balanced by not having to commute to those strip mall suburbs. Also, biking is good.

If you were a Californian looking to move to a red state in order to help turn it blue, which state would you choose?

Move to Wisconsin. A lot of the population borders Illinois, a blue state, and the state only recently lost protection for unions. Only downside is that governors here are like emperors, no limit on how many terms they can serve and Scott Walker sucks. Also, our population is declining, and moving here is a rather unattractive prospect to many, so it’s likely that if you can bring other people with you, you’d have a good opportunity to make an impact. The average wage here is lower than our neighboring states and work for medicaid will be happening here. There is no state minimum wage and we don’t really get many benefits from paying our state income tax.Since the 50s we’ve elected about half Democrat and half Republican governors and the last time we voted for a Republican president before Trump was when the state voted for Reagan in 1984. Wisconsin is ripe for change and if you look at the current situation, it’s already happening, we’ve lost protection for unions, we have a Republican governor and voted for a Republican president. I would say that preventing a blue (or undecided depending on point of view) state from turning red is more important than trying to win a red state all on your own.

What is the first thing you should do after you move to Seoul?

Even before you come to Seoul there are some things you should be considering, and I have a list of them here: Things To Know Before Coming To Seoul. However, if you are already in Seoul (or know these things), then there is a lot of stuff to do still! The first things I would do are as follows:I would get a T-Money card. T-Money is the transport card that is most commonly used in Seoul, however, Cashbee is also okay. Both of these cards will allow you to travel on trains, and in buses and taxis without a problem. This is definitely one of the first things you want to get sorted out!Get a SIM card. You may already have this sorted, and if so, skip to #3. However, a SIM card that won’t make you go bankrupt is very important! Keep in mind that you usually can’t get a normal Korean SIM until you have a Korean bank account, so that may be worth setting up first.Download the essential apps on your phone… The subway app, bus app, some form of maps (Naver or Google), KakaoTalk, and whatever else you think you might need. These apps will make your life so much more pleasant. If you are staying in Seoul for an extended period then definitely look into getting a Korean bank account (Hana Bank is great for foreigners and students), an ARC card (remember you have to book well in advance, and within three months of coming to Korea), and possibly Korean Health Insurance.Honestly I can’t think of much else that is essential when first coming to Seoul. There is a lot of obvious stuff, but I won’t list it for… Obvious reasons. Accommodation, and things like that. However, once you are in Seoul and have the essentials sorted out there is so much to see and do! Why not explore a bit?Further, if you are a woman then this post might be helpful - Being an Expat Woman in Korea. It is hard moving to a foreign country, and it can often be socially isolating. This post has lots of great ways to meet link-minded people who have had similar experiences.Once you are in Seoul why not experience some of the cafe culture that it’s famous for? Sungshin Women’s University Cat Cafe. The Best in Seoul?!Or visit Namsan Tower! N Seoul Tower – One of the Best Views in Seoul?Or the Han River! A Photographic Journey Along the Han River.

What is the first thing you should do after you move to London?

Spend several days walking around the streets. Many tourists make full use of the great (but old) underground system. This easily gets you round but if you’re walking the streets or even using the buses you see so much more.
