My 2.2 2000 Chevy Cavalier Wont Start

How much is a 2000 chevy cavalier worth?

I just crashed my work car(a 2000 chevy cavalier) and I was wondering what u think my insurance company will give me for it? It has 137,000 miles, there was nothing wrong with it until now. It is totaled both airbags blew.

2004 Chevy Cavalier that cranks but won't start...?

if you can't hear the fuel pump running, then try beating on the bottom of the gas tank with a rubber mallet or your fist. Sometimes you can get a bad fuel pump to start back up from jarring when beating on the tank. If it starts back up, most likely you will need a new fuel pump but in the process of replacing the fuel pump, you need to be looking for any loose connections or bad grounds. If you want to make sure it's the fuel pump, or at least lack of fuel to the engine, you can remove the air intake hose from the air filter housing or directly from the throttle body and spray some sort of flammable liquid such as starting fluid(ether) or carb cleaner, then try to start the engine. If it starts up then stalls out, you know you are not getting any fuel to the engine.

How far does a Chevy Cavalier go on a full tank?

I have a 2002 Chevy Cavalier base. It's an Auto 4-spd, 4 cyl, 2.2 L. I am going to San Francisco from Buffalo in a few weeks and I was just curious as to how many miles it could go on a full tank. I have tried to find out myself and I got an average of 300 miles but I would just like other peoples inputs. Thanks! Oh, and I will be driving on all highways if that makes a difference.

I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier. Why am I having difficulty in starting it?

It sounds like you have a bad ignition switch, or a bad ground.  The instrument cluster, and fuel pump relay both ground at the rear of the engine. I would check any bolt or nut at the rear of or on top of the engine that fastens a wire or cable to the engine.  Any other wires under the hood that are grounded to the body, or frame should be checked, cleaned or tightened as necessary.          The ignition switch has a pink wire that should have battery voltage when the switch is in the run position.  If the switch is hard to get to, you could check for voltage at the ignition module fuse, or the instrument cluster fuse, which are probably located in the fuse box inside the car. If you have a test light you can test for power at the fuse with the key on and the car in its no start condition. If no power to fuse the switch is probably bad.      These seem to me the two most likely causes for the problem described in your question, especially the ignition switch. Intermittent electrical failure can be difficult to diagnos, and I could be way wrong here, but this is where I would start.

Rattling noise in 99 Chevy Cavalier?

Hello tdogg. The noise under the hood could be one of two things; the serpentine belt tensioner is separating (very common concern for the 2.2l), or the water pump shaft bushing is worn, causing contact between the impeller and the water pump housing and/or the engine block itself. If the water pump is culprit, a high whine will accompany quick revs of the engine (like a supercharger). The tensioner will rattle only while engine is idling, or lower rpm's (noise is pretty loud). If the tensioner separates completely, the belt will come off all pulleys. If you are driving the vehicle into the ground, your question is moot. If the belt comes off, the vehicle will be undriveable quickly. If the water pump is culprit, and the engine is not overheating, the vehicle will last until the pump grounds out, stops pumping coolant, and the engine siezes. Hope this helps and good luck. Oh, by the way, your engine does not have a timing chain; it has a belt. Peace.

How do I turn my 04 Chevy Cavalier traction control on or off if I don't see a button or switch?

The best way to disable the traction control system without a OEM switch is to pull the fuse on the fuse panel, your owners Manuel or a quick google search will reveal its location. It is important to note that it will most likely cause an engine light with the fuse out. Have fun with that ebrake

Will E85 fuel work on a 2003 Chevy Cavalier?

Will your 2003 start and run on E85, yes, will it suffer long term damage, probably, will the performance decrease and fuel usage increase, yes.E85 fuel is 15% gasoline plus additives to boost the octane, and 85% ethanol. The owners manual, stickers near the fuel door or gas cap will be present on automobiles built to use E85 fuel. The good news is the octane rating of most E85 fuel is higher than most standard automobiles require, so you will probably not experience pre-ignition and the damage caused by pre-ignition.Automobile fuel systems and emission equipment that are built to operate on e85, are constructed of materials that are less likely to be damaged by ethanol, which is more acidic, corrosive, and has a drying effect on many materials such as the fuel lines, seals, and evaporative control valves in our 2003 Chevys. My Silverado uses 15%-20% less fuel when running pure gasoline versus E10.

How can I get a fuel pump to stay on in my 97 Cavalier due to anti-theft, it will start and shut off?

What anti-theft? Are you talking about the pump appearing to randomly shut off if you don’t have it shoved into fairly tight? That’s the fuel vapor recovery (FVR) system that kicking the pump off, not an anti-theft feature. They were required on fuel pumps in the early 90’s and until recently, now that the mandated Onboard Refuel Vapor Recovery systems mandated on new cars since 2000 (partial mandates started in 1998), so the majority of cars on the road have them today, and no longer as necessary to have them on pumps.Anyway, if it’s shutting off, you just got it hold it tightly into place to make a seal.
