I had a friend, he was my roommate and essentially one of my first friend in my college. We had lot of good times and made lot of good memories. We confided all our dreams, secrets, ambitions etc into each other. We used to fight, abuse, argue on every small things but never has to apologise as we both knew SORRY was not for us and we used to be the same after everything.BUT,In 2nd year, Once I got pissed at him for something which I felt really bad about, I am sparing you all from the details , but after that incident we just stopped talking to each other.I guess our EGO became bigger than our friendship. We didn’t talk to each other at all for our entire college time even after being in the same circle of friends.We never said wrong things about each other to anyone whole time and I knew for sure we both wanted to fix and continue our old times but again, our EGO.After 4.5 years (we never spoke all this time), We were in GOA (same friend circle)and he got injured. After finishing trip I came back to my place. After a day or two I just pinged him to check about his injury (Yes, we still used to admire and care about each other). That night we talked , it took us almost 4.5 years to talk, and it just sorted out everything in 10 mins. we both found peace but our friendship lost its precious time.Lesson : So if you really care don’t stop talking, please shed your EGO and say something.

Me and my best friend are fighting over a guy?
I have been best friends with this girl since 4th grade. She is like obsessed with this guy that I like and he likes me back. He doesnt like her, but he won't go out with me because he is afraid that she will hate him. We still act like best friends on the outside, but on the inside you can tell there is tension. We are both fighting to be prettier and I just hate it. We both promise that we wont be mad whatever happens, but I know she will be. It makes me cry every day because this girl is like my sister and best friend for life. I freaking love her! But I really love the guy too! It just breaks my heart!!!!! What should I doo??? I know people are gonna say that no guy is worth it, but I really think this one is even though I don't wanna lose by bestiee! I just wish there was a way that I could stay best friends with her, go out with the guy, and not have her trying to sabatoge our relationship, like she did to one between my other friend and some other guy she liked.
Why do best friends fight a lot?
Well, according to me in any kind of relationship that we make with others be it a love relationship or that of a friend, we end up fighting a lot. It is very normal and is a fact.I had this best friend of mine in my boarding school. We used to fight like cats and dogs. We've even slapped each other and believe me this is a sign of a very good bond. We fight because we expect something and then we console because we can't even stay away, so we try to adjust. When we try and fit in some chothes which are not of our sizes, we struggle, the same way when we adjust with someone in life, we need to struggle as we get nothing in our hands so easily.Now what happens when you stop fighting is that you stop caring and you stop thinking about each other and ultimately you stop expecting anything.When we were in 10th grade, my best friend had to leave the school coz of some reasons. It somewhere broke our hearts but we managed to stay the same kind of friends for 2 good years but after that maybe she found new people and a new enviornment so she stopped giving me her time and the fights stopped because she had nothing to give and nothing to ask for from me. That was when i realized how much i loved her and how much i was missing the fights with her. I tried to ask her several times and sort things out but i soon realised that she had gone a lot more ahead in life and she didn't choose to take me in her company. Even today she comes back i wouldn't mind and I'd still ask her to join me for a drink or so!So, my friends if you are troubled with the fights you are going through, please dont be! Just take it as a friendship test. You are very lucky to have someone who's spending his/her time fighting with you, expecting from you, consoling you, and being there for you. Respect what you have and dont let it go.Edit: We are now again in talking terms as we understood each other and have accepted life the way it comes.

I am a sophomore in college and me and my best friend are fighting over the same girl. Her name is Bethany and she was in a relationship with an asshole for 3 years and they just broke up. It is very obvious that she and her boyfriend were going to break up due to some ongoing problems. I have no dating experience whatsoever and my friend Chris wants to have a rebound relationship with her. Chris and Bethany are lab partners for a class and are always together doing work. Bethany sits next to me in a few lecture classes and we study for every test together. Bethany told Chris that once she and her boyfriend called it quits that she wants to date me since I am sweet and would treat her right. Today me, Chris, and Bethany went to dinner together at the college dining hall. Bethany doesn't have a meal plan and I offered to let her use one of my meals for the week. Chris told Bethany that we should go out to dinner and he would pay for her meal and she accepted the offer. Bethany sat next to me in the booth and wouldn't stop smelling me and complimenting my masculine cologne that I was wearing. After dinner we went back to Chris's room to hang out and Bethany sat on Chris's lap while he was on the computer. He wouldn't let her off of his lap and it really pissed me off. She kept looking at me to see my reaction and I stayed calm and cool and didn't lose my temper. He always makes fun of me in front of her to make himself feel better because he has a very noticeable disability and walks very funny. I don't want to ruin a good friendship and I know the saying "bros before hoes" but I don't know what to do. I know Bethany is flirting with both of us but her best friend always tells me everything and that's how I founded out she wanted to date me. Her best friend hates Chris and doesn't want them to date. Chris keeps trying to brainwash Bethany into hating me by mentioning some of my insecurities in front of her. He knows I am a sensitive guy and it kills me when he does this. I don't see Bethany as some sexual object or as some token of competition like Chris sees her. I treasure her values, which are similar to mine, and I care about her feelings. I want to show her that not all guys are assholes and she deserves someone better than her ex boyfriend or Chris. First red flag to your ‘ best guy friend’. If both of you argue (ever) and he never contacts you back (it’s always you to him), he seems like he may be a controlling prick. It may not even be you as a person, but rather him and his childhood and/or who he is now. He may be a self-absorbed narcissist. This unfortunately is very common.I don’t know that anyone is important to that type of person, other than themselves.How to solve a fight over something big or small with such a person? You personally can’t. You can’t. Not really. You can beg for his forgiveness, grovel at his feet, etc..Do you really want to though? What are you getting out of this ‘friendship’ other than the constant notion that you are no where near the totem pole of importance in his self-proclaimed reality of life.
