My Guinea Pig Is Getting Skinny Need Help How To Fatten Him Up

How do I fatten up my guinea pig? (PLEASE HELP HE MIGHT DIE)?

Pellet slurry's don't work the best when syringe feeding. Firstly they hate the taste, secondly your guinea pig has already been eating too much of them, thirdly it doesn't give them much nutrients, and fourthly it is extremely hard to squeeze out of the syringe.

Take a look at my hand feeding page where I have created recipes for ground oatmeal slurry and how to make fruit and veggie juice without a blender (even though you have a blender) - http://guineapighut.webs.com/hand-feedin...

Your piggy will enjoy it a LOT more than pellet slurry, and it will help him put some weight on!

How do i fatten up skinny guinea pig? hurry plz

Has your guinea pig seen a veterinarian yet? He/She really needs to. He is probably skinny from an illness that's making him lose weight. You NEED to find an exotic veterinarian and get an appointment immediately. Try emergency vets. Call around and find someone who sees guinea pig patients. If he has lost weight through neglect or something like that then he may have developed an illness, his kidney and liver could have shut down to save energy. If he's just a little skinny then just make sure to give him lots of specially formulated guinea pig food, timothy hay(not alfalfa!!) and fresh fruit and vegetables high in Vitamin C. If he refuses to eat or doesn't want to eat much you can try hand feeding. There are tips in the links in my source. Above all, your guinea pig NEEDS vet care.

Guinea Pig (Skinny Pig)?

The fact that the people answering your question don't know that "skinny pigs" are a breed of guinea pig and not, in fact, a skinny guinea pig should probably tell you all you need to know about the quality of their answers.

He should get 1 cup of fruits and vegetables per day, in order to take in vitamin C. Supplements are not reccomended for long term use, as they can contribute to bladder stones. He should primarily get green leafy vegetables (like romaine, green leaf, and red leaf lettuces, but no iceburg, it's too watery) with fruits as an occasional treat.

My Guinea Pig is getting skinny? Need help! How to fatten him up!?

In the guinea pig world when you have a guinea pig that has changed its behavior it is screaming exotic vet. Then you add loss of weight to an already slight guinea pig you have something serious going on here. Please take him to an exotic vet asap for intervention. Please know guinea pigs are prey animals and hide the fact they are sick or in pain until they are in the acute stage and can not hide it any longer, sadly at that point they can go down hill an die very quickly.
The way this is is because he is sick, something is not quite right and he needs a good work up with an exotic vet. Once he is healthy he will simply put in the weight on his own.

Do keep an eye on his cage mate and make sure he is actually allowing him to eat, guinea pigs can be very sneaky that way, My Miya did not want another guinea pig in her cage so she would not allow them to eat except when I was in the room. I caught her one day out of the corner of my eye push the other one in the cage away form the food, she did a body block to the food dish! I walked over to the
cage and in a very soft voice I said Miya shame on you! picked up the food dish and set it in front of the other guinea pig so she could eat. I sat down placing myself where I could see them and every time Miya would start to block the dish all I had to d was softly say "Miya" and she would suddenly become the perfect guinea pig!!.

How can i fatten up my guinea pig?

I know i have asked this before... probably a while ago, but. My guinea pig has been at my Dad's house and he has forgotten to feed him a lot. I now feed him every day. He gets one full bowl of pellets every day, 1/2 cup to 1 cup of veggies everyday. So far he has tried, baby carrots, grape tomatoes, romaine lettuce, and kale and has liked them all. The day after i got him, which was may 16th, i weighed him for the first time and he was 2 pounds exactly. I thought that this was too skinny because i can feel his backbone sticking out when i pet him or touch him. I started the diet mentioned before as soon as i found out what to feed him and how much and that was about 2 days after i got him. I decided that he would gain weight after a while and so i weighed him on may 22nd and he only weighed 2 pounds and one ounce. I figured to wait longer so i weighed him today (june 6th) and still, he only weighs 2 pounds and one ounce. I have herd that many peoples guinea pigs weigh around 2 pounds and 3 somewhat ounces. Almost 3 pounds maybe. I still feel his backbone sticking up. In the past he has not been well taken care of because we first found him in someones front yard near the road and my dads friend took him and brought him to us. His nails were extremely long and he was starving. We had someone at least trim his nails a little and then we got him guinea pig food right away and then my dad as i said forgot about him sometimes. So now at my house, he is fed, cleaned every day and he got his nails cut short. I have been researching a lot about guinea pigs and am trying to get him healthy again, i am first starting off by getting him well fed, a bigger cage, and i am working on getting a guinea pig cage. I am soso sorry that this is so long and i would appreciate if you could tell me anything about them but specifically how to get him some weight and what store (please not online) where i could get a big enough cage for one guinea pig but no more than about 70-75$.( I would like it to be a little cheaper than that though) Thank you, i appreciate any help you could give me :) and i again apologize for this being so long but i just don't want my guinea pig to get sick and i thought that it would help to give a little background info. :)

Can you help me with my Guinea Pig?

some guinea pigs are naturally skinny, the same as people. Is she still a baby? when i got my guinea pig she was quite skinny because she was still a baby, but now shes got a bit fatter after we've had her for a few months.
if you are really worried, take her to the vet, but i think if you give her all the right vitamins ( vitamin C has to be included in their diet, because the little piggies cant make it on their own) then she will probably fill out a little more :)

hopethis helps , and good luck with your guinea pig!!!! x

My guinea pig is too skinny?

If I am following your question properly any time you have weight loss in a guinea pig it is a big red flag to a health problem and time to see an exotic vet, it would be a bit difficult to think the same diet would have anything to do with a sudden loss of weight, so please do take your guinea pig to a exotic vet asap. Remember guinea pigs are prey animals and hide the fact they are ill until they are in the acute stage and they can not hide it any longer, and sadly at that point the go down hill and die quickly, I often read of people noticing their guinea pig is ill in the evening and it is dead by the next morning.

If you feed a proper diet your guinea pigs will adjust to a proper weight for their bone structure, if they are not ill. Feed healthy guinea pigs as follows.

Unlimited guinea pig pellets that have 18% protein and a high amount of Vitamin C with no nuts, seeds or other colored stuff in them.

Unlimited hay up to 6 months of age, pregnant or nursing it should be alfalfa, after 6 months of age change to timothy hay, orchard crass or any good grass hay you can find in your local Feed and Seed store.

1/2 to 1 cup of dark green leafy veggies daily such as kale, romaine lettuce, swiss chard, dandelion greens, mustard greens, parsley, red and green bell peppers, a mix of these daily will provide all the fresh vitamin C the need.

Fruit should be fed every 3 days as a treat only as it is to high in sugar to be good for your guinea pig and it is also to high in acid so if fed daily it will cause sores in your guinea pigs mouth.

Change the water daily to assure it is drinking ample water

Some days your guinea pig may eat a lot of hay and not much hay, and other days it may eat a lot of pellets and not a lot of hay, your guinea pig will eat what its body tells it to and by having the food there it can eat what it needs and it will adjust to a healthy weight.Always make sure your guinea pigs are healthy though,

How can i fatten up my guinea pig?

Feed your guinea pig as follows:

Unlimited pellets that are 18% protein and have a high amount of vitamin C with no seeds or other colored stuff in it.

Unlimited hay 24/7, under 6 months, pregnant, or nursing they should have alfalfa hay as it is higher in protein and calcium and helps them through their growth spurt, the development of the pups and the production of milk. After 6 months change to timothy, orchard grass or any good grass hay you can find at your local Feed and Seed store.

1/2 cup of veggies while he gains weight then increase to 1 cup of dark green leafy veggies such as Kale, chard, dandelion greens, parsley, red and green bell peppers

Fruit should be given only every 3 days as it is to high in sugar to be good for your guinea pig also it is high in acid and if given every day will cause sores on the guinea pigs mouth.

Change the water daily to assure your guinea pig is drinking ample water.

With this diet it will gain its weight back quickly and maintain a normal weight.

My weimaraner is very skinny. How can I fatten him up?

2 weeks ago I got a Weimaraner. He was skinny when I rescued him. I took him to the vet and they said he needs to fatten up a bit. Since then I gave him 2 cans of puppy food in the morning with some oats and oil mixed in. In the evening he gets 2 1/2 - 3 cups dry food. In between he gets plenty of snacks and sometimes raw eggs and cottage cheese. He still seems skinny! He is almost 4 years old and male. Thanks for your help!!!
