My Jack Russell Seems To Make Like A Weird Breathing Noise Help

My dog makes funny noises when breathing?

My 35 lb. terrier mix makes this noise that is somewhat halfway between a snort and breathing through a stuffy nose. She has done it for as long as I've had her I think...but it would just be every now and then, but now I've noticed that she is doing it more. Her nose is not runny. She seems to feel ok. It is almost sounds like that nasty sucking back snot to your throat that some people do. haha, except it is much more quiet. She seems to do it while breathing in and it is just a few quick nasal snorting sounds while inhaling. I plan on taking her to the vet if it persists, but I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced this situation with your dog. Oh and one more detail...it almost sounds like the sounds of a boston terrier, french bulldog, boxer, etc., but her muzzle is long and doesn't have that flat smashed in look appearance at all. Thanks!

My Jack Russell is making a hacking noise?

He's about 6 years old, and for the past few months he's been making this coughing/hacking noise and sometimes he throws up. Does anyone know whats wrong?

Please help, dog hiding, being weird, was panting and shaking -what is wrong!?

You are right to be concerned. What you describe sounds like fear to me. Sometimes pain can cause fear like that, too.
Since your vet is not finding anything, it may be time to consult a behaviorist (NOT trainer!). Your vet should be able to recommend someone. I'd also strongly encourage you to get or make her some type of kennel/ crate she can go in as she pleases.
Although it is difficult with so much going on in your life it's very difficult but VERY important for your dog to get a whole lot of exercise. Dogs that don't get out & about (not just the back yard) tend to get very anxious (especially high energy breeds like JRTs). If need be I'd hire a dog walker to help.
I sure do hope you can figure out what's going on soon!

Pug making so much noise when breathing?

I have a female pug that was given to me last year for my 20th birthday from a friend that owned both parents (she is registered and i know the parents and their back ground so i know she is purebred, just putting that in)

She is the sweetest dog every but everyone is afraid of her because they think she is trying to attack them when she is actually just breathing. She snorts ans snawrls and makes so much noise when she is breathing, is there anything i can do to help her breath better?

I know its because she is a pug and they have short noses and all but i have never known one to be this bad and i have been around a lot of pugs. I mean she is really loud and you think that she is growling at you but she is actually just excited to see you.

Its kind of embarrassing, but is there anything i can do about it to help her breath better? Im afraid that she might not be able to catch her breath in the summer when its really hot and if she's out playing.

Are choke chains cruel to use on a dog?

I personally wouldn't use one, especially on a 6 month old puppy, and especially with a breed that is known for breathing problems because of the brachycephalic breed that can be known for breathing problems. If you don't know how to properly use one or if your dog ignores the collar one day and see's something he wants to chase after, he could easily hurt himself.

I think a halti lead or a front clip harness would be a better idea. You should also start teaching him to heel, which is something that can be worked on at home (you can find awesome videos on Youtube that will show you how).

Also, a choke chain is NOT a replacement for actually training your dog. Neither is a halti lead or a front clip harnes or a prong collar on whatever else you could imagine. These are merely training "tools", that can help in the process of training your dog, but they should not be used as a substitute for actual training.

My dog makes this weird snorting sound, what is it?

It is probably doing what is called 'reverse sneezing' - his sides heave & he stretches his neck out when doing it, sometimes pulling his lips back towards its throat, making a strained look on his face? He probably got some dust or pollen up his nose. It is not really harmful, and many dogs do it. Just like humans sneeze!

What are the pros and cons to owning each of these dogs: a great dane, an english bulldog and a jack russell?

Great Danes would probably have the best temperament of the three ... very laid-back and loyal dogs. If you don't want a dog on your furniture, though, don't get a Dane. They WILL go on the couch. Period. Danes have a shorter lifespan (on average) than the other 2. Danes live an average of 8-10 years, Bulldogs will usually go about 12-14 years, and JRTs up to 16+ years.
English Bulldogs are a vet's dream because they ALWAYS have medical issues. Breathing problems, bone/joint problems, skin issues, eye issues, ear issues, you name it. I know vets who have literally told me that when someone gets a Bulldog, it's like the vet hit the jackpot. They also tend to overheat quickly and breathe LOUDLY (increasingly so as they age).
Jack Russells are cute little things, but have TONS of energy, as most terriers do. They are more difficult to train, are constantly in motion, tend to be yappy little dogs. They're cute and sweet and can be great companion dogs, but are a lot of work to keep occupied.
None of your options require much in the grooming department except maybe a good shampoo and brushout every couple of months (the usual nail trims and ear cleaning, too). Bulldogs have the facial folds and the lip flews that you'll have to keep clean.
Cost-wise ... Danes will cost you way more to feed (7-9 cups of food a day is not unusual), Bulldog will cost you in vet services, and JRT will cost you in training.
I'm not trying to convince you one way or the other. This is just my input for you to use as you will. Best of luck in making a decision that is best for YOU.

Boston Terrier very snottey nose :( HELP?

Alot of mucus could be a medical problem, but these dogs(because of their short snout) are prone to alot of mucus from the mouth and nose. There are medications you can give them(VET PRESCRIBED, PLEASE), HOWEVER, keep in mind, it's only natural for these dogs.
