My Laptop Supposedly Has Good Specs Why Am I Getting Low Fps

Why am I getting limited FPS (60) On all games?

If Vsync is on in the games options turn it off. That's what's doing it. The thing is that unless your monitor is more than a 60hz you're only going to get 60fps anyway no matter what an fps counter says. A screen can only display things as fast as it's refresh (hz) rate. A video adapter can go faster but the screen is only going to do what it's capable of.

60hz/fps is plenty. If you're getting a solid 60fps frame rate and the game isn't choppy...no need to bother for the reason(s) I explained above. If a game is choppy at a solid 60fps frame rate it's more likely due to the connection between you and the other online players (ping/latency).

Why am I getting low frames per second (FPS)?

My current specs are:

CPU - AMD Phenom 9950 Agena 2.6GHz Quad-Core

Motherboard - MSI K9A2 Platinum AMD 790FX ATX

RAM - Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 mhz

Video Card - ASUS EAH4850 Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3

I like to play World of Warcraft and when I play I get lower frames per second than I would like, about 30 - 60 with sync on, and when I turn it lags a little bit. Yes, I know this is not low and I shouldn't be complaining but it has been bothering me.

I have two ideas what it could be. One is that my ram is being sucked up because if I go into task manager is says Total = 4094 mb Cached = 2339 mb and Free = about 60 mb. The free amount seems really low to me but I don't know if that is normal or not.

The second idea I had was my internet connection. I have a fast connection but older router and cables. It is an online game but I don't know if my frames per second should affected by my connection or just the power of the machine.

Maybe this is normal frames per second for my specs, I don't know, please tell me if it is.

Thanks for reading and I appreciate any advice.

Why am I not getting enough fps?

Well, at low settings on a 1080p screen, the chart says you should be getting 55 fps on average. So it’s not quite as far behind where it should be as it first appears. But beyond that, it’s really quite hard to tell.Maybe some of the parts aren’t working at optimal capacity.Maybe for some reason Task Manager decided the game should have a lower priority.Maybe your computer is overheated.Maybe your computer uses up too much on other programs (If, for example, you are recording the gameplay, that will affect framerate.)Maybe your computer is just running out of storageThere’s just too little we know here.If you want to speed it up, try-Closing background programs.Opening Task Manager, and setting the priority to “High” or “Realtime”(If your CPU is almost full) Store files on an external hard drive. If absolutely necessary, go down to Very Low graphics settings. Obviously, if you can get it to work well with the previous steps, stick with Low settings.

Why is my game (Squad V10) getting very low FPS even when I'm using less than half of my CPU, GPU, and RAM?

There could be any number of reasons. But Squad V10 is listed as “Alpha”. This means its still in the very early stages of development. Most likely its is an optimization issue And will likely be patched in the next update or two. Here are some generic diagnostic steps but for anything more specific you are better off checking the Steam, Reddit, and Squad V10 forums where people with similar issues will be better equipped to help.If you recently updated your GPU drivers then either try rolling back to the previous driver or using the beta drivers. Your update utility or the support page form Nvidia or AMD should walk you through the process. You can also try messing around with the graphics setting in your games. try adjusting the graphics quality, shadow detail, and a bunch of other settings. Try bottoming everything out and see if that helps. then start bringing every thing back up till you hit the balance between quality and FPS.Try turning off all background programs. Chrome and other browsers tend to take up a decent chunk of ram. Live or animated wallpapers are also very resource intensive. If its an MMO or otherwise played over the internet with others it is defiantly recommended you close as many internet related programs as possible.Recording/Streaming also have an impact on your FPS. Try playing without those programs running and see what happens.Make sure your monitor is up to par. You will want it to have a response time of 5ms or less and isn’t above the recommended gaming resolution for your graphics card.

Low FPS on brand new laptop?

Hi, I bought brand new Acer Aspire E5-771G-544Q with reasonable specs, but I am getting about 10fps on games like League of Legends. When the laptop was bought I received a free upgrade to windows 10 64-bit(if that makes a difference). I'm no expert, but I believe the laptop should play games at much higher fps.
The specs are:
-Core i5-5200U(2.2Ghz to 2.6Ghz)
-Geforce 820m 2GB VRAM
-4GB RAM

Some of the solutions that I have tried:
-Installed latest Nvidia driver
-Set game settings to low
-Set power plan to High Performance
-Used NVIDIA control panel to ensure games are using the dedicated card
-Switched off certain 3D settings

Thanks for the help.

Why am I getting higher fps with a higher resolution display?

This may sound really odd, but I started getting better fps on league of legends when I switched to a higher resolution display...

I got a 24" 1080p monitor for my new gaming computer which hasn't come in yet so I hooked it up with my laptop instead.

My laptop is 1440x900, with the exact same settings except with 1080p resolution my fps on league of legends was 30-40 with drops into 20s now I can get a somewhat consistent 60fps in 1080p...

Can someone explain this to me? How the hell is my fps higher when I connect my laptop to an external display with higher resolution? Not that I'm complaining but I have no idea how this is happening lol.

My laptop has high specs but it still lags in every game. How do I fix this?

Thanks for A2AHope by following the below steps you might get a solution:-Check by increasing the RAM capacity to 16GB .Use Cooling pad for laptop while playing games and always try to keep laptop in vicinity of Ceiling fan and fresh Air.Try to keep you laptop cool as much as possible while gaming, probably sitting in Air conditioned room will help to an extent.Lack of proper vents generate heats for component inside and thus degrades the gaming performance.Always play games with power cable plugged in.Playing games using battery would only result in laggy games and overall creating a stress on system.Try to get a SSD installed if there’s a slot for it.Download games in HDD but install it in SSSD. Game data is fetched way more fast from SSD and will decrease lagginessLast but not the least, try lowering down the Graphics and frame settings to medium or low with HD resolution and check if there’s an improvement in gameplay.Laptops are generally built with poor heat sink technology when compared to Desktop.Having a cool laptop is must while and during game play to avoid screen freeze and lags.Use Cooling Heatsink Copper Pad Shims to have effective heat dissipation.

Why can't my great PC run Minecraft well? I am getting FPS drops from 60 to 45 all the time and it drives me nuts. Especially when I should be getting above a hundred on max settings.

My guess is you just need to upgrade your PC. Minecraft primarily needs Ram to run well, if you have anything above 8gb of ram you should be fine as long as your CPU and GPU are at least mediocre.I suggest you try out a site called “Can I Run It" (I would link it, but the link is unnecessarily long and I don't know how to link it to text) This site will have you download and run this thing that checks your PC specs, and when you look up games on the site it will compare your specs to the minimal and reccommended specs. If your PC doesn't match up with the recommended specs it will show you which hardware you need to upgrade, if any.Another possibility is if you're playing on a server, the server may be causing your FPS to drop due to some issue with the map.My tip: If you don't have 8gb of ram your PC Isnt “great" as 8gb of ram is sort of required if you want to be able to play almost any games. I honestly would suggest moving up to 16gb of ram if you can, and upgrading your GPU and Processor if it doesn't meet the requirements.Edit: When you say great, I'm assuming you're PC doesn't have terrible specs, which is primarily why I said upgrading those specific parts. As I read other answers, a few other things that could play large roles in it is your Hard Drive or SSD, Overheating Issues, and viruses.

What causes low fps when gaming ?

Oh, 30 FPS, how HORRENDOUSLY impossible to play with. Seriously, I play with a MAXIMUM of 15 FPS and I do FINE.
That aside:
There are a number of things that can lower frame rate, and EVEN THOUGH YOUR CARD SHOULD BE ABLE TO PLAY IT, DOESN'T MEAN IT CAN. For example, family has a laptop. The laptop has a 64 MB video card, and a game requires 32 MB minimum. The video card has ALL the required and recommended bits. When I tried the game, it got two frames per second with everything stretched and skewed. I did not look too far into the matter, and I found out that the game did not support the manufacturer.
The things that can cause lower FPS are:
High polygons in the map/area's design
Particles can be one hell of a b*tch to some cards. This includes dirt clouds, muzzle blast, etc.
Same as polygons, too many people/units in one spot can murder a card.

*EDIT* - The system requirements website listed by Maria is a nice site, but it is not completely accurate. It was one of the places that said the laptop could run the game. Still a good site, I recommend it also.
