My Puppy Will Not Leave My Side

My puppy will not leave my side?

I have a 16 week old jack russel terrier puppy. He is the cutest thing my only problem is that no matter what I seem to do he will not let me out of his sight. My husband says that when I leave he cries until he takes him for a walk and he cannot find me, and that after he has calmed down he will play with my husband and listen to him but as soon as I come home he (like I said) will not let me go anywhere alone. I have done everything I know of to try and break him of this habit but nothing seems to work. It is upsetting my husband who gets angry when the puppy won't listen to him just because I am home. Other then this he is a good dog he has learned sit, stay, and shake paw and does not have many accidents in the house but the attachment is getting to be harder to deal with. Any suggestions?

New Puppy won't leave my side?

I just got a 2 month old German Shepherd puppy. Today is the second day of having him. Everywhere I go around the house he'll follow, which I don't mind. I left him in my room (I'm keeping him in there until he settles down and gets use to me and the room) so that I could go do something downstairs. The second I leave he's whining & crying so loud. I know I should stay with him since it was only yesterday that I took him away from his parents & family but I'm afraid that when I leave for some place tommorrow for an hour, he'll be loud & crying & maybe even do something destructive to furniture or personal belongings. I guess I just wanted some advice on what I can do to get him used to me leaving him alone for a while.

My pup won't leave my side...

Wow - are you lucky!
That's what is called a velcro dog...

Your puppy, however, also needs to work up some more confidence, and not be quite so clingy - he may or may not ever really want to play with the other dogs, but he shouldn't be diving into your arms.

Time to take him to obedience school, or puppy kindergarten, depending upon his age, and pass him around to thers in the class while he is doing his obedience exercises, so he learns you are not the only thing in the universe to be trusted.

It sounds as if he is either just genetically a soft puppy, or was taken from his litter too early. Be very aware of the fear periods that occur when puppies are growing, and make sure you avoid scaring him, or he will be fearful forever. But he does need to work on his confidence level, and that will happen at school - make sure you discuss it with the instructor so they can help you, and aware of the situation when they conduct the class.

It's important to build up his confidence, because a scared dog is actually more dangerous than an over confident one - they can quickly become fear-biters.

Good lcuk!

My dog wont leave my side???

Your puppy thinks you're her mommy! How old was she when you got her? She may have been weaned too early, especially if you got her from a pet store or a breeder.

When you leave the house, leave an article of clothing that smells like you and leave the TV or radio on. That way, she won't feel like she's alone. Also, try leaving her alone in a room for short periods of time, longer each time, and then come back. That way, the puppy will learn that Mommy always comes back.

If none of this works, you may want to check out an obedience type school. They may have some good advice...for both of you!

I've been sick and my dog won't leave my side?

I have like a flu type thing and the poor dog won't stay away from me longer then to go pee and eat. Can my baby catch this flu from me? I feel so bad he won't even go play with his daddy when he calls him. Hes been cooped up with me for two whole days and refuses to have it any other way!

My dog won't leave my side when I'm sick?

I have the stomach flu and for the past two days have been up all night vomiting/dry-heaving. My dog was right beside me when I was vomiting and hasn't got off the bed (right now she's cuddled up into my side sleeping) unless I'm going to the bathroom then she will come with me. She hasn't been outside to go to the bathroom since about 6 this morning and it's now 2:38. I've tried making her go but she just sits at the door and won't move until I finally have to let her back in. Is this normal?

My dog just had puppies and wont leave them to go use the bathroom?

Let her be your guide - she may not have to go. She'll tell you when she needs something - but whatever you do, never let her out without a leash and a no-slip collar! She should NOT have a collar on now, as the puppies can get caught underneath it. Take away any loose blankets pillows and pads, as well.

She (and therefore, they) need to go see the vet for a calcium shot and pitocin shot, to ward off eclampsia and make sure wshe has in fact deleivered everything in her womb. The vet will also check the puppies over for things like cleft palettes. You need to do this very quickly - eclampsia can send her into a tizzy and she could kill the puppies - and it happens fast.

She shoudl have a big bowl of good quality puppy kibble in her room at all times as well as a big bowl of fresh water. The bowls should be on the opposite side of the room from the whelping box, away from the puppies.

The whelping box should have a heating pad in it - on LOW only-, and that should be beneath a layer of fleece, with newspapres as the bottom layer.

Make sure that NO other animal of people go into her nursery except for you or one other person she truly trusts - they should be left in private, with no drafts. If other animals come near, she could panic and do something inappropriate with the puppies - and kill them all. THey need peace and privacy.

Call your vet, and arrange to go in - and carry the puppies in a uandry basket or big cooler with blankets or towels to keep them from drafts. If there is a crate that will fit in the car, put them in that together, or you could just crate her and take the puppies in the basket - but keep a no-slip collar on her and a leash at all times - and ask the vet if you can go in the back way, so as not to take them past any other dogs in the office.

And when you get home, wash her feet - and ALWAYS take your shoes off before the hallway to her nursery - germs on shoes can kill the puppies, no matter where you have been. And wash your hands, whenever you are going to handle any of them as well.

If I leave my one-year-old dog with a friend for about 10 months, will he remember me when I come back?

You have no idea how much will your dog miss you.In 2010 I made some new friends and they invited me to their house for a small get together. Their i met this Labrador named Suzy and later got to know she was pregnant and was soon to give birth. One strong dog I must say she gave birth to 13 pups at once. One of the Pup was born very weak and the doctor said it is difficult to say whether he will survive or not but by the grace of god he survived and my friends named him Antonio after St Anthony. I always wanted to buy a dog and my love for dog this time made me go against my dad and one fine midnight i brought Antonio to my place. Kept him in the balcony and waited for the dawn to see my fathers reaction. Well with no surprises there was one hell of a fight but i somehow managed to keep Antonio at my place. He was just 2 monts old and it felt awesome to raise him and see him grow but happiness never last for too long. One day my dad out of frustration kept a condition i don't like the smell and a lot of dog hair everywhere in the house and I can't take all this the dog has to leave or I will leave. I was like ok you can leave naaaahh I didn't say that. The fights became regular and one day I had no other option but to leave Antonio from where I bought him. He was 18 months old then and stayed with me for 16 months.75 days old Antonio (approx)18 months old AntonioToday he is 52 months old and he still remembers everything about us. He loved going on bike rides with me, we have such a strong connection that till date when i pay him a visit he will come to the window listening to my bikes sound. He will remember your smell, your touch, your love and everything about you.His I wanna drink face...
