My Recipe Calls For 4 Extra Large Eggs And I Only Have Large Eggs How Many Large Eggs Do I Use

Recipe calls for 6 eggs, I only have 5?

Yes, you can still make the cake with 5 out of 6 eggs using baking powder, along with other ingredients ---

1 egg = 2 tablespoons liquid + 2 tablespoons flour + ½ tablespoon shortening + ½ teaspoon baking powder

You can also try other egg substitutes while baking:

gelatin (To replace each egg: Dissolve 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin in 1 tablespoon cold water, then add 2 tablespoons boiling water. Beat vigorously until frothy.)

cornstarch (Substitute 1 tablespoon cornstarch plus 3 tablespoons water for each egg called for in recipe.

mayonnaise (Substitute 3 tablespoons mayonnaise for each egg called for in recipe.)

bananas (Substitute 1/2 of a mashed ripe banana plus 1/4 teaspoon baking powder for each egg.)

Recipe calls for large eggs, only have jumbo?

In the US, a "large egg" is referred to as about 57-60 grams.
A "jumbo egg" is referred to because it is greater than 70 grams.

So they're about the same. You might have like an extra third of an egg in there, but it's really not that big of a deal. If you're really, take a teaspoon and scoop out part of the egg white.

If a recipe calls for 3 LARGE eggs and I only have medium size, should I use 4?

NO!! Use 3 eggs!!! If you had small or extra small then you would want to use more! Like 4 or 5, but medium and large are similar in size and not enough difference to make adding another egg much different to the recipe.

Of course if you wish you can go ahead and do the 4 eggs! but I never do!

I always buy extra large eggs if I can get them. My sis gives me pullet and banty eggs which are tiny in comparison!! So I have to make adjustments there.

Recipe calls for 4 eggs, I only have 3 help!?

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
2 cups sugar
4 large eggs, room temperature
2-3/4 cups flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 vanilla bean, seeds scraped out

... should I do 2 eggs and 2 egg whites???

or 3 eggs and 1 egg white??

(I have egg whites in the carton)

If a recipe calls for 1/2 cup eggbeaters how many eggs would I use?

You would use a half cup of eggs.

Crack an egg and put it in a measuring cup. If its not up to a half of a cup crack another egg and put it in the measuring cup. Repeat until you reach the half cup line.

If you half a cake recipe that calls for 9 eggs do you use 4,5, or 4.5 eggs?

Most cake recipes call for large eggs, so try 4 extra large or 5 small eggs. If you can manage to divide that large egg evenly, then go with the 4.5 eggs. Good luck, I usually just make the whole recipe and freeze the leftovers. Most cakes do freeze well.
