Navy Aviation As Or Am I

U.S. Navy aviation mechanic?

I am 17 years old and strongly considering on joining the U.S. military. I would enjoy becoming an aviation mechanic for the U.S. navy! Can anyone tell me about what they do daily and where they get stationed? Also, does the Navy pick the job for you or do you pick the job you want? Thank you for your time.

What is the difference between naval aviation, such as the US navy or Royal Navy, from aircraft carriers, from US Airforce or Royal Airforce?

I am referring to the tasks of both these flight formations, and where does this competition between maritime and traditional aviation take place?

Like the famous rivalry between the US Navy and US Airoforce as well as the Royal Navy and Royal Airforce :-)

How's NAVY aviation rates like?

I spent 8 years in the USN and worked on communication, navigation, weapon, and electronic countermeasure systems on the Grumman EA-6B Prowler. While the USN recruiter will try to convince you that it would be a "clean" working environment, he would be wrong. (My recruiter was a PN1, pretty much an office clerk - clueless about aviation ratings). You would be better off going with AT, AD, AE, or the other AM ratings, if they are still separate. When I was in, AMS was structures, AMH was hydraulics. I was an AT2. Joined in 1989 and got out in 1997, now I work for a major airline doing everything I was doing in the Nav, just on different planes (without weapons, but surprisingly with countermeasure systems on some contract customers). You are in the right direction if you are thinking ahead about what to do after your enlistment. Aviation maintenance is a great career, the hardest part about my job is the 30 minute drive to work.

Ending on a very important point. While you are in, do everything to get your A&P license. This is a valuable certification that should open many many doors for you when you get out. Veterans with A&Ps are among the best candidates for airline maintenance technicians.

NAVY AVIATION STRUCTURAL MECHANIC?

HELLO!
I JUST JOINED THE NAVY ON AUG 1ST...I SHIP ON JANUARY 6TH. I AM EXCITED TO JOIN THE NAVY BUT I AM WORRIED BECAUSE I CHOSEN TO BE AN AVIATION STRUCTURAL MECHANIC (AM). I HAVE HEARD GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS JOB AND I KNOW THAT IT IS A GOOD RATE BUT MY ONLY CONCERN IN THAT I AM A FEMALE AND I AM RATHER SMALL. (5FT 110 POUNDS) I HAVE ALSO NEVER WORKED ON OR FIXED ANYTHING IN MY LIFE. I SPOKE TO MY RECRUITER AND HE SAID THAT "THE ASVAB DOESNT LIE" AND THAT I SHOULD BE FINE. I SCORED A 63 ON THE ASVAB, AND MY SCORES WERE THE HIGHEST IN MECHANICS AND ELECTRONICS. I KNOW THEY WILL TEACH ME EVERYTHING I NEED TO KNOW IN SCHOOL, BUT I AM STILL A LITTLE WORRIED.... I JUST NEED TO KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY OTHERS FEMALES OUT THERE WHO HAVE THIS JOB, OR A JOB SIMILAR TO THIS ONE, OR IF ANYONE KNOWS A FEMALE WHO HAS THIS JOB AND WHAT THEY DO AND IF THEY LIKE IT, ECT... THANKS!! :)
