I need help with 5th grade grammar...?

I think it would still be has. "Tom has grown. He has grown"

5th grade math question help?

wow well umm lets see

you need 2 buns to make a sandwish
so you have 12
you need to divide that in 2 and you get 6
so you have 6 sindwishes only and you need to make 18
18-6=12
you need 12 more sanwishes and in every one of those is 2 buns
so you multiply 12 x 2 = 24 buns

you need 24 more buns
hope i helped

Need help with 5th grade true or false question??! Help gets 10 points!!?

Depending on how finely the grains of sand are ground up, sand could be a heterogeneous mixture, a homogeneous mixture, or a compound.
I can see how this question would be confusing.
Grinding the material is a physical change
so
grinding will not convert a mixture to a compound or vice versa
therefore
I would consider the correct answer to be false
but
the confusion comes in because grinding a heterogeneous mixture into super small particles could indeed make it look homogeneous
however
I'm still going with false

An apple slice turning brown is NOT an example of a chemical change.
False
the color change is due to the oxidation of some of the compounds in the apple
this is bad news in a salad bar in a restaurant
so
they sprinkle the cut fruit and vegetables with a compound that is easier to oxidize than the food
this is a 'sacrificial' compound
they once used sodium bisulfite but some people are sensitive or allergic to this
so
these days they mostly use citric acid which is in a lot of foods already

I need help with a 5th grade math question.?

Nearest 1/2 inches would be 1/2, 1, 1 and 1/2, 2, 2 and 1/2 etc.
So to round 4 7/8 to the nearest 1/2 inch, you would round up rather than down, so it becomes 5. The half inches near 4 7/8 are 4 1/2 and 5. Because you round up, the rounded number is 5.
When you read 4 7/8 to the nearest inch, it becomes 5 as well because you rounded up.

5th Grade Math Help?

To round, you need to look at the place you are looking at. then you look back one place and see if it is above 4. If it is you round up, if it is 4 and below you round down.

For the first example, you need to Round to Ten-Millions. Which sarts with 3. Then you look back one place and see 8. So you need to round up. so your answer is 40,000,000.

Here are the rest.
1,387,220

400,000

5th GRADE MATH PROBLEM!!NEED HELP!!10 PTS!!?

Hi,

This problem is interesting since there are two ways to solve it.

The long way or the short way.

The long way:

Think of a triangle with 5 sections in each one, and the sections get larger as you go down the triangle. The problem says there is 3 parents in the top layer and each one of those parents calls 3 other parents. Let's see how many people we have so far.
Parent 1 calls 3 people
Parent 2 calls 3 people
Parent 3 calls 3 people

The people the parents call will go onto the 2nd layer of the triangle. so the first layer we have 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 parents. The 2nd layer we have 3 + 3 + 3 = 9 parents. Then each of those 9 parents will each 3 people each. 3 times 9 equals 27, which is the number of parents in layer 3. Layer 4 will have 27 parents in it and each of them will call 3 other people each. So 27 times 3 equals 81. Now the final layer of the triangle has 81 parents and each of them will call 3 other parents. 81 times 3 equals 243.
So the number of parents in the whole triangle is:
3 + 9 + 27 + 81 + 243 = 363 parents.

The short way to do this is to make an equation using exponents.
(think of the power as the layer number)
3 raised to the 1st power is 3
3 raised to the 2nd power is 9
3 raised to the 3rd power is 27
3 raised to the 4th power is 81
3 raised to the 5th power is 243
Sum: 3 + 9 + 27 + 81 + 243 = 363

Hope this helps!

Fraction Word Problem Help - 5th Grade?

The male kitten weighs 2 1/8 lbs.
Let X be the weight of the female kitten.
we know that if we subtract 5/8 from the total weigh and divide by 2 we have the weight of the female
2X + 5/8 = 3 5/8
2X = 3 5/8 - 5/8 ( subtract 5/8 from both sides )
2X = 3 (divide both sides by 2 )
X = 1.5
weight of the female kitten is 1.5 lbs and the male weighs 5/8 lbs more
1.5 + 5/8 = 1 4/8 + 5/8 = 2 1/8
If you want to leave out the algebra simply subtract 5/8 from the total weight divide by 2 and then add the 5/8 to the result.
Algebra isn't as hard as you may think. When working with an equation all operations done to one side of the equation must also be done to the other side of the equation so that they remain equal to each other.

I need help with 5th grade math homework.?

I am not going to give you the answer, but think about it logically. The play are is 20 feet long. If the sidewalk is 2 feet wide, how much would be added on to each side of the length? Since both shapes have to be similar, and having an equal proportion, you need to do the same thing to all sides. Take a piece of paper. Draw a rectangle on it, but keep an even margin all around the end. Measure the length of the rectangle. Say it is 10 inches long. Since most standard size papers come in 8.5x11(the length being 11), the overall margin of both sides is one inch. Divide one by two. This gives you a half inch margin all around the paper. The width of the rectangle would then be 7.5 inches based on this calculation. So now you are doing the same thing backwards. Draw another rectangle on a new sheet of paper, keeping a 2 inch margin all around the paper. Pretend that the length is 20 inches and the width is 14 inches. Now on the left of the box, there is a 2 inch margin. On the right is another two inch margin. Now add both of them. You get four. Add four to the length (20). You get twenty-four. Multiply that by two (because there are two sides of the same length). You get 48. Keep this number in mind. Now do the same thing you did to the length, to the width. There is a 2 inch border at the top. There is a 2 inch border on the bottom. Add them together. You get four. Add four to 14. You get 18. Since there are two sides of the same width, you multiply that by 2. You get 36. Remember the previous 48? And the current 36? Just add those two together to get your answer. I will not tell you the answer directly, but it is between 80 and 85 feet. Good luck figuring out the rest.

5th grade math homework help?

Edit: I am old school. I think of "cube" meaning what is now called a 3 dimensional rectangular prism. Technically a true CUBE has the same L, W, & H ... but my example still 'works' if you change the numbers.

Fractions. And if you do a physical model you might better understand. [on short notice, this example will not be perfect.] if your cubes are 3 x 4 x 5 and your box is 10 inches wide then 3 boxes x 3 inches each means 3 cubes fit across and you have a 1 inch gap. Putting the 4" cube along the 10" means only 2 cubes plus 2 wasted inches. But 10/5 means 2 whole cubes fit evenly that way. then if the box is 9" high ... div by 3 = 3 cubes high. Now the cube "length" is 4'" so what is box length? 20? / 4 = 5 cubes long .... 29 ? / 4 = 7 cubes long, with 1' to be filled with packing peanuts before shipping.

Update. If the CUBE is 3 x 3 x 3 into a box of dimensions 6 x 12 x 15 = 6/3 x 12/3 x 15/3 = 2 x 4 x 5 = 40 cubes into the one box. RE: Marley's example 10/1 x 5/1 x 2/1. { I gave her a thumbs up. Sometimes we use a team approach on here(!)}
