Need Help With My Fasfa Will This Effect Residency

Will a D grade affect my Financial Aid?

The only time the D would affect your financial aid is if it were to lower your GPA to less than 2.0 (which you've indicated isn't going to happen) or if this particular class does not count D as a passing grade, at which point the D grade would lower your completion rate (completion rate is the measurement of how many classes a student's passed divided by the number of classes a student's attempted.) Even if the D doesn't count as a passing grade (and is therefore equivalent to failing in terms of completing the course) you could only lose your aid if you have a significant history of withdrawing or failing courses.

I would say it's extremely unlikely you'll lose your aid over a single D.

Will F's affect my financial aid?

Rawr!

Sorry to hear about your bump in the road - if you've been a good student up until now, you should be able to get back on track next semester. I'd still recommend some serious and painfully honest introspection to help you figure out what's gone wrong - something is responsible for the problems that you're having, and the more accurately you can pinpoint what that is, the greater the chances that you'll be able to avoid a repeat of this semester's problems. I wish you luck in that regard.

As for your financial aid - you don't need to worry that a few F's along the way will seriously jeopardize your financial aid - especially if those bad grades are mixed amongst a larger body of much higher grades. You don't need to be a math whiz to realize that a couple of F's in a group of 5 grades has a much bigger impact on your "average" than a couple of F's in a group of 20 or 30 grades.

In order to remain eligible for financial aid, you must keep your cumulative GPA above 2.0 and you must pass at least 70% of the credits that you REGISTER for. I capitalized "register" to emphasize the point that you can't evade this pass-rate requirement by dropping classes. If a student registers for 4 classes and drops 3 of them, the "A" that he gets in the fourth class may make his GPA 4.0 for that semester, but his pass rate will be only 25%, and he'll still be in trouble with his financial aid, despite his "perfect 4.0" GPA.

Unless this semester's grades are going to threaten to push your GPA below 2.0, you don't have anything to worry about with regard to your future eligibility for aid. Just make sure that you figure out what's gone wrong, and do your best to get back to your usual level of great academics.

Good luck!

Oh, and PS: Don't worry too much about your GPA, unless you're thinking grad school. You're not going to gain or lose a job because your GPA was 3.14 as opposed to 3.32. It's very unlikely that an employer will ask you about your undergraduate GPA on your application.

Does residency application affect financial aid?

Hi, I am US permanent resident and been in Ohio for more than 1 year, but I'm still not considered as a Ohio resident. The problem is the school that I'm studying charges me the equivalent fee to international student's if I'm non-Ohio resident. I have financial aid but every quarter I have to pay much more for school fees because the pell grants are not enough with it. I am 21 years old and dont live with my mother. In order to reduce school fee, I want to apply for Ohio resident as an independent student because my mom doesnt live here with me, and residency requirement is dependent students have to live with their parents. That's why I want to apply for independence, but financial aid claims me as a dependent student (I have to be dependent student in order to be eligible for financial aid). I dont know if I apply for Ohio residency as independent student, will it conflict with financial aid or not? Or do they not relate anything to each other?

If I adopt a college student will it affect her financial aid? My husband and I want to adopt an 18 year old.?

Can she still apply for financial aid as an independent student? She does not live with us. Also, she is a permanent resident not a US citizen. How will that affect the adoption and will it affect fafsa?

FAFSA help...housing "with parent" or "off campus"?

first, if you are considered independent you are either 25+, married, or in armed forces. anyone under the age of 25 and unmarried is dependent even if you do not receive any aid from your parents.

1. putting "off campus" will get more aid than living with a parent because you would have more expenses, therefore less available to spend on schooling.
2. you will be asked to state your expenses if you live off campus. they will not ask for a lease but you would have to show what your expenses are. if you are not honest and it is found out, you would not be eligible for any additional aid for school and would have to pay back what you had already used so i wouldn't lie on the application. you would need another address to show you do not live with your parents and may be asked to present an utility bill for that address.
3. if you live with your parents, the fact that you pay rent will not effect your award.

Special Circumstances for independent status FAFSA?

I am currently 21 years old. I was emancipated at age 20 (I know this is past the age of majority) so that I could gain in state residency at my school. My parents have had a hard time the last 5 years, and they can't really afford my tuition even if it is cheaper with the in state status. In fact, I cannot accept money from them legally because of the emancipation form. Also, I signed legal documents at the school making sure that I wasn't receiving outside funds. On paperwork it looks like my parents can pay...then factor in my Dad losing his job in 2008, etc...and now we are rebuilding (my parents are employed now), however, my brothers ex wife assaulted him, and now there are a lot of lawyer fees. My brother and his baby live at my parents house now, but they are not dependents because my parents do not cover over 50 percent of their livelihood. It is just a mess at home. So I decided to take my education into my own hands for their sake. Now I am in a tricky situation...I am under 24, so I am not an independent on FAFSA. I was, however, emancipated when I was 20. This is obviously after I turned 18 (legal age of an adult in my state). But now I have to uphold my legal obligation to my school, and not receive any money from my parents...I just don't know what to do...

Can I move to a different state and continue online classes, then switch to the local community college after the semester ends?

I am currently enrolled in the fall 2014 in my community college. I have three classes online and one on campus (Art) which all equals 13 credits.
Due to family issues, I need to move into my fathers apartment and he lives out-of-state. Can I drop my art class, continue online classes and still move? After this semester ends, can I just resubmit my FAFSA and add the community college in the other state I am moving to? (I would attend a different community college the next semester)Will I still be eligible for financial aid and the loans I applied for?
Hope someone has the answer!!

Moving out of state for school, FAFSA help?

I'm planning to move out of state (specifically to Florida) for school in the winter. I'll be completing my FAFSA form before moving in order to meet the states deadline. Is there a certain way to handle that? I mean there's nowhere to put a little sidenote of info for the FAFSA department to tell them hey, sure this is my current address, and yes im living with my dad right now, but when I go to school that's not going to be the case.
Also, on the school site the tuition listing for resident and non residents is of course much different. What determines that? If im coming from out of state, and I automatically considered a non resident? What if I were to apply AFTER moving? Would I then be a resident? I'm just confused on what determines resident and non res status...
I'm starting to get the feeling that I should put school off a semester or so, get down there and settles in, THEN do my applying, but I hadn't planned on having to do that.

Hope somebody can help! Thanks in advance!
