New Job Taxes Question.

New Job Tax Return Question?

I graduated college last year and started a new job right away. This is the first time I have made real money, other then the min. wage jobs I had during college. I'm starting to do my taxes for 2009 with H&R Block and it said I should get $12,094.73. Is this possible? I don't want the IRS to audit me because I have never made so much, or had such a large return. So I'm just wondering if this is uncommon or not correct. If this is correct will it delay my return in anyway? Thanks so much!

New job doesn't take out taxes?

If they are not deducting taxes you will get wallopedwith a big tax bill at the end of the year. Her employer gets around not deducting taxes by paying her ao much per massage. It means less paper work for her but a big headache for her employees

Contact the IRS if in the States or Revenue Canada if you are in Canada and see about making quarterly payments based on her projected earnings. You'd have to figure out approximately how much she will earn so maybe she could work a couple of weeks first. Once she has this set up then 4 times a year you would make payments into your tax account and your taxes would be paid just she had a payroll deduction. They may even have direct deposit. Contact them and they should tell you all the details

W4 Question...?

First of all, weather filling jointly or married separately, both incomes will determine the amount owed when you file the yearly tax return. That said, go ahead and file your w-4 married, with two exemptions. If you don't like the amount with held, adjust it with a subsequent w-4. You are allowed, by IRS law to change the W-4 any time your personal circumstances change. (Some human resource officers will attempt to tell you different, but if you tell them you know the law, they have to allow the changes).

In the final analogy, which is the 1040, you will after years of working, see the w-4 is just a tool, so you arrive at an amount with held just enough to pay your taxes due. But what you don't say is if you have kids, or a home mortgage, both of which present large enough write offs, to change what needs to be with held (less with held in both cases).

Yes to the second question, since the 1040 doesn't recognise where the tax with holdings come from, you could actually claim exempt (or 10 with holdings) on hers, and single with zero on yours. But make sure you will have enough jointly taken out in the end.

IRS tax moving expenses question?

On Dec 2008 my wife and I both had jobs in CA. On Jan 1st we moved to VT because she took a new job there. I continues to telecommute for my job in CA. In Sep 2009 we moved back to CA where she and i both took new jobs. My wife did not work 39 weeks in her job in VT. Assuming we both work more than 39 weeks at our new jobs in CA, can we claim either or both moves on our 2009 tax return?

New York City Resident Tax Question?

Please answer if you actually know something about taxes in the State of New York. I work in New York and am occasionally paid for freelance work by third party payroll companies.

A recent job, back in 2017, took place in New York City. New York City resident tax was taken out of the check, the problem being that I'm not a resident of New York City, but rather a resident of the suburbs outside of it. I contacted the payroll company, located in California, and they said they would correct it, and told me to submit form IT-2014 (Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate) which is used to verify that you are not a city resident. I did this and a refund check was issued to me for the tax taken out.

When I received my W-2 a couple of days ago it was screwed up. Box 16 of the W-2, which would be for state wages, was blank, no state tax indicated. In Box 19, local income tax, the original NYC tax amount was listed. In box 20, which is the locality name, it said "New York City Resident."

The problem here is that I don't want to put anything at all in the NYC resident section of the NYS tax return, IT-201 since I'm not a resident. I called the payroll company and at first they had know idea what I meant, then seemed to get it and indicated they were going to correct it and send a new W-2. Do they now have to re-report all my info?

Any help is most appreciated.

Filing taxes when you get a new job?

If you get a new job, outline the three forms you will have to deal with to file your taxes. Which one do you have to fill out when you start? Which one does your employer send you? Which one do you use to file your taxes?

FIRST JOB! i have questions about my w-4 form.?

I just started a job at taco bell, im only 17, so i do not have to pay taxes at the end of the year..... on my w-4 form i filed to be exempt (wich i heard means that they dont take federal taxes out of your pay check) but exactly how much is that? how much exactly would they take out if i was not exempt? On my w-2 for i claimed 1... myself.... any help?
