Why do I get chest pain to the upper right of the chest and the middle and the lower middle?

Your doctor is an imbecile for not checking you out. The possibilities of what could be causing your chest pain could be any number of things from gas (I'm not making that up), to acid reflux, to esophageal disorders, to Costochondritis, and up to angina. The fact that the pain is in the right side of your chest really means nothing because the nerve distribution in your chest is very complex. You can literally have pain in one part of your body and have it radiate to your chest (such as a perforated area of your gastrointestinal tract). Also, women (and by your avatar I'm assuming you are a female) are notoriously known for having chest pain that is disguised as something else entirely. I once had a patient (I'm an EMT) who was just tired and sweaty but when I put her on the ECG she was having a full blown heart attack. So in summation, if you are concerned about what this pain is then I would go to get a second opinion and insist that it be looked into. It is somewhat normal to have chest pains every now and then, but those chest pains are normally due to gas or indigestion and usually only last for a short while. The fact that these pains have been lasting for the past week can indicate that something is wrong (I'm not saying that something is definitely wrong, just that you need to have a doctor run some tests to make sure).

When I take a deep breath I get a sharp pain in my right to lower mid back. What may that mean and should I be alarmed?

This is one of those ‘nothing’ to ‘something’ symptoms, just because there are so many major muscles in the torso. Muscle strain can feel like the pain from various ailments, and there’s no way to know without tests. If you are right handed and use a computer all day. I might suspect that you sit wrong and lift your right arm/shoulder just enough to overextend a muscle in a chronic way.Sometimes a gall bladder problem can hurt in the right back, despite being in the front.Pneumonia can start as a sharp pain in the lung and feel like back pain, and have no coughing. That’s just THREE of many!

What might cause chest pain after quitting smoking?

While it’s sound medical advice to always go to a doctor to get unusual chest pains checked out, it also seems fairly common for superficial chest pains that can be either sharp or mild to come from minor irritations around the chest wall caused by different breathing or stretching patterns or arthritis or inflammations in the muscles/ligaments/cartilage of the rib cage etc.If you’re a “hard core” smoker for whom quitting feels like a major ordeal, you’ll likely both be much tenser than usual and also be compensating for not smoking by breathing differently than usual. Both of those could cause the sort of irritation that could cause intermittent chest pain.I’m not a doctor, but I have sometimes tended toward hypochondria, particularly in my 20s and 30s before I learned that certain sorts of bodily aches and pains are just “normal” in life and are not signs of a heart attack or cancer of the brain. In my case a lot of them eventually seemed to boil down to some sort of costochondritis (See: Costochondritis Overview ) mixed with general arthritis… with it all aggravated by extra stresses due to scoliosis. Eventually I learned that every twitch of pain was not a sign from the heavens that I was about to meet St. Peter, and, lo and behold, the pains became a much more minor thing when they’d occur: merely a noticing of a momentary discomfort not even worth thinking about. Before arriving at that realization, my mind would focus on any twinge of pain in the chest area and magnify it out of all proportion.Sooooo…. as noted, not a doctor here, and if you’re experiencing the sort of symptoms that actually go with a heart attack or somesuch you certainly should not ignore them, but, my *guess* would be you likely have little to worry about if you’re female and under 40 and feeling a high level of stress from quitting smoking.MJM, again, not a doctor (“I tell thee thrice…”) but hope I’ve helped!

What does right side chest pain indicate?

right sided chest pain may resulting from,Digestion-Related Causes(Indigestion, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Food blockages),Viral Infections.Gallbladder Infection Pancreas Inflammation,Liver Inflammation,Pleurisy,Lung Diseases(Pneumothorax, Pneumonia )Cardiovascular Problems(Cardiovascular Problems, Aortic dissection)Other Causes(Stress , Rib displacement, Fibromyalgia, Costochondritis, tumors)Chest pains come in many sizes and shapes. They might be experienced as fullness, heaviness, an aching, a drawing, burning, squeezing, fluttering, and many, many other ways. One very common presentation for chest pain is that of a sharp chest pain. Sharp can be perceived as stabbing, like a needle or a knife is piercing the skin. Most people at one time or another in their life become afflicted with such types of sharp chest pains.A good thing to know is that pain that is sharp, like needle is not often due to heart blockages. Particularly, if the pain is worse with movement or breathing rarely indicates coronary heart disease.Pain that gets worse or better with a change in position or movement most commonly indicates that the ribs, muscles, cartilage, or lungs are involved. This isn’t to say that such pain isn’t important. No sharp chest pain can occur with serious conditions.A blood clot in the lung can cause a sharp pain. Pneumonia or lung infections can produce sharp pains that are worse with movement. Fluid the fills the sac surrounding the heart called the pericardium can be sharp in nature.Indeed women with heart blockages sometimes present with sharp pain. As a general rule, however, the pain is not worse with movement or pressing on the chest.Sign’s that sharp chest pain isn’t a heart blockage:• Sharp chest pains that get worse with taking a breath• Sharp chest pain that is very short in duration- just a few seconds• Sharp stabbing pains that are worse when you press on the chest• When movement aggravates your sharp painsRemember, I’m not saying that sharp pains are not serious. As I mentioned some fairly serious conditions can cause a stabbing pain in the chest. It’s best to check with you doctor if you’re having chest pain.He/She will need to do a thorough history, find out about your cardiac risk factors, and perform a physical exam.Yet, sharp chest pain doesn’t have to mean you’re going to have the “big one.” It might be a rib that’s out of alignment.Check with your doctor. They’ll have the answers.

Chest Pains: Am I OK?

I used to have chest pain before. it was sharp/stinging and sometimes felt like pressure on my chest. it wasn't frequent, just randomly and occasionally or with chest movements. also my ribs were tender, and when my sternum or chest was barely poked, it hurt and was very sensitive to the touch. I was short of breath and sometimes it hurt when I breathed deeply.

I went to the doctor, and he diagnosed me with costochondritis. basically, it's where the ligaments/joints that connect the ribcage to the sternum (the center of your chest) are torn/swollen/inflamed/injured. of course always get chest pain checked out, but, to ease your mind a bit, this is what I was diagnosed with. it's nothing serious, just uncomfortable and painful at times. if your chest is ever swollen or red, or hot to the touch, it may be a bit more serious, though.

I was given pain meds and some physical therapy moves to do for my chest muscles. the cause is any pressure like trauma to the chest, or even a virus sometimes. there's no 'cure' per say, but it goes away with time. (took mine about a year to go away) so, maybe this is all you have? or the big tight bear hug mighta triggered this kind of pain there.

hope you feel better! try some chest stretching exercises and breathing deeply. take ibuprofen or aleve for joint pain.

I am feeling a mild pain in the middle of the chest while moving. What pain is this?

Pain in the middle of the chest (central chest pain) is often a cause for concern as it is associated with cardiac conditions which may have serious implications. However, there are a number of causes of central chest pain that are unrelated to the heart or great blood vessels, but may be equally as serious or even benign in nature. As a general rule of thumb, chest pain associated with difficulty breathing, dizziness and fainting should be treated as a medical emergency and immediate medical attention is needed. Other symptoms like pain radiating down the arm, especially the left arm and excessive sweating for no known cause should also warrant a medical assessment.Causes of Pain in the Middle of the ChestThe more centrally located structures of the chest includes :breastbone (sternum)mediastinumheart and part of the great blood vesselstrachea and bronchiesophagusthoracic spineWhile pain in the middle of the chest may be related to these structures, it is not uncommon for pain to radiate or refer from other regions, like the upper middle abdominal area (epigastric region). The concomitant signs and symptoms are of significant value when assessing the possible causes of central chest pain.Chest WallThe more common causes of central chest pain associated with the chest wall are often related to the chest muscles and the breastbone (sternum) and related skeletal structures like the costal cartilages and ribs.Muscle strain is possibly the leading cause of acute chest wall pain and may be related to strenuous activities. Breastbone pain may be more serious and longer lasting and can vary from fractures to growths, inflammation of the costal cartilages and joints (costochondritis) or injury linked to blunt force trauma without fractures. These causes are discussed further under chest wall pain.Common symptoms include chest pain when breathing, especially upon inspiration, moving and coughing, tenderness of the chest and occasionally skin symptoms and localized swelling.Heart and Blood VesselsAn acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) should always be excluded when there is a sudden chest pain radiating down the arm, associated with breathlessness, sweating, nausea and dizziness. These patients also tend to be extremely anxious with a feeling of impending doom and in the typical presentation, clutching the chest. High risk patients, especially those diagnosed with angina pectoris, need emergency medical care.
