Police Job Requirements

What are the requirements of being a police?

Here’s a question I get all the time. All the time. And the answer is this: if you can’t find that out on your own, you will never make it.I got on without knowing a single cop. Use your common sense and figure it out. It may not seem like it but I’m doing you a favor. Anybody giving you any other answer is doing you a disservice.

Police Officer requirements?

And i always watch cops (haha yea i know), but how would i know what questions to ask, how to act, and who to trust. Because when ever i watch cops they'll always act so harsh to the people they no nothing about and i'm always thinking what did they do? Why are they treating them like that?

Do you think the Miranda requirement prevents police from doing their jobs?

Miranda makes sure they do their job correctly, and reduces the possibility of having evidence ruled inadmissible by the court.

Is there height and weight requirements for becoming a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota?

No. Most police departments require that your height and weight be proportionate. Visit the Minneapolis Police Department's website. You can find information about their applicant requirements, about how to apply, and about their hiring process. Your height and weight won't prevent you from getting a police officer job. You would have to pass a police department's physical agility test. Some tests include exercises such as climbing through a window that can be difficult for some people. If you meet or exceed a department's qualifications and can pass any required tests, then you should be able to become an officer. You can find the Minneapolis Police Department's fitness standards for applicants on their website. Regardless of size, officers must have good communication skills, they should be as physically fit as they can, they should be well trained in officer survival skills and tactics, and know when and how to use their equipment. It is great that you are in college. Getting a college degree is one of the best things that you can do. Make the most of your time and money while in college. Get the highest grade point average that you can, participate in a couple extracurricular activities, get a good internship, do some regular volunteer work, don't do anything illegal, and maintain a good reputation. Best of luck!

Do you think the Miranda requirement prevents police from doing their jobs?

Absolutely not.....it protects both the suspect/offender and the officer

What jobs can I apply for that require firearms, except police?

Very few jobs require being armed.  You are probably over-qualified for private armed security jobs (such as a Brinks truck guard or bank guard). You may be able to get a position in a corporate personnel / asset protection job, although many of those require prior military or police experience.  The problem there is that there is probably an abundance of applicants with prior military experience.    Your language skills could give you a benefit over some military applicants, but they will already have training and experience with firearms. What's involved and how much it costs all depends on where you are.  Illinois requires a 40-hour "armed security" course, usually only available through the agency employing you.  At the moment, you can only carry while on-the-clock, since Illinois hasn't issued any concealed carry permits yet.  Other places may require more (or less) training for an armed position.Requirements in Illinois are that you have no felony convictions, no history of mental illness requiring court-ordered hospitalization, and be physically capable of handling / retaining a firearm.

Local police department require only high school diploma, but IL academies require 4 yr degree....?

educational requirements differ from department to department. if your local police says you can join with only a High school diploma then you dont have any thing to worry about more then likely they may have their own training facility and dont use a state training facility if they do use the state facility to train the state may make exceptions for them.
