Preparing For Infantry Osut

Preparing for infantry OSUT?

DO NOT take Irrelevant's suggestion about polishing boots. His suggestion is just that, irrelevant. We only wear tan combat boots and they do not require polishing.

Right now, you need to be running EVERY SINGLE DAY. When you get to Sand Hill, you're going to be running everywhere you go once your platoon masters marching. Not to mention, you'll run every day for PT. If you're not running everyday right now, you need to stop what you're doing and immediately start. Running is the hardest physical activity for most people. You'll get better at it in Basic, but you will save yourself a lot of pain and heartache if you get better at it now. Believe me man, I thought I was a decent runner before I left and I could pass the APFT two mile run. However, I had my *** kicked up and down when I got there.

The food isn't great but you're not going to care when you get two minutes to eat what's on your plate, you'll be so hungry and tired you're glad you're eating.

Classroom tests are more hands on than written. It's all basic infantry knowledge, things like weapon disassembly and clearance, Combat Life Saver courses, etc. TAKE THIS ADVICE: In the classroom, make sure you stay awake. If you catch yourself nodding off, stand up, go to the back/side of the room and continue taking notes. If you get caught by the DS sleeping, you will get your world ****ed up. Trust me, some will fall asleep and you will see. Good luck bro.

Preparing for Infantry OSUT?

I cant speak on behalf of the Army as I am a Marine and in fact the only reason im responding is because im bored on duty and trolling yahoo answers. The running needs to be longer. 2-3 miles isnt going to cut it. Dont get me wrong, you will make it and i can promise you that the "standard" product you see in the military is far below par especially in the branch you decided to join. Enough with that but it had to be said. The simple fact is, you dont want to meet standards. You want to blow them out of the **** ing water. So yes, running, make it longer and faster. Try doing a 1 mile sprint on mondays, 3 mile run on wednesdays (18 minute 3 mile is a perfect score per Marine Corps standards), and a 6-10 mile "hump" on fridays (humping is explained below). Before breakfast do this; set a stopwatch to countdown from 20 minutes. Start the timer and execute 5 pull ups, 10 situps, and 15 airsquats. Repeat this as fast as you can and as intense as possible until the 20 minutes are up. Do this tuesdays, thursdays, and sundays. For humping... the weighted pack is ok as long as you dont over do it. Dont run with the pack at first. You will hurt yourself. Power walk. LONG strides for a long distance. Do this 1-2 days a week no more at first.

How should I prepare for infantry osut?

I leave in one month and I'm trying to get as prepared as possible. I can pass the 1-1-1 test but can't pass the actual 2 mile run. Last time I was scored I ran it in over 19:00 (that last mile kills me). I have been running a lot since then but have not timed myself. I run in trails because I heard trail running is a big thing at benning. Please any advice will help

Infantry OSUT prepare?

Asking this again, I leave in early November for Ft Benning Infantry OSUT training. I can run a mile on flat surface in under 8:30, do the 13 pushups and 17 situps needed. Problem is after I run 1 mile, i feel like death (until i catch my breath). I have been running a mile everyday with varied times. I feel myself being able to run it easier every time but its all hills by me which mess me up haha. I also want to drop 5-10 lbs because i'm close to my weight limit. I have not been eating as much, and eating somewhat better, and gave up soda. What else can I do to prepare for Basic Training?

Infantry OSUT Fort Benning?

OSUT is 16+ weeks of straight training, unlike regular basic where its 9 weeks basic then you go to AIT for your particular job....PT wise, i dont know how old you are, but try to be able to run a 2 mile in under 14 minutes and be able to do 60+ push-ups and 65+ sit-ups( these arnt the minimum but if you can do more the better! ;) ) Yes it will be cold and most likely snow so be prepared for that!

How to prepare for US Army infantry "OSUT training"?

i leave march 5th 2012 to fort benning Georgia. i know infantry training requires rigorous intensive training. i just started training but im not sure how i should start building myself up to running 5 miles etc. please helpful answers needed

How hard is Army Infantry OSUT?

The PT can be challenging. You can do road marching anywhere from 2 miles until to 12 or 15 miles with a ruck sack that will weigh from 10 lbs. to 30 lbs. There is a lot of yelling because the goal of the drill sergeants is to break down everyone to the same level before bringing them back up again as a real team. But there's a lot of training also. If your group learns fast, it will lessen the amount of yelling you experience. You'll learn basic Infantry Skills. Just prepare yourself physically for the PT tests and then prepare yourself mentally and get in "the zone". Tell yourself that nothing can break you and that the pain (emotional and physical) is only temporary. Keep your end goal in sight. Good luck!

When preparing for infantry osut, jump school and rasp?

don't do exercise specific training. while recruits are failed out during the PT test it's never because they can't actually finish it. RASP can only pass so many recruits, since ranger regiment has only so many slots. Those they can tell wont make it due to either fitness or (more often) attitude they'll just keep counting the next to last pushup you need to pass again and again until time's up. The rest of RASP is what makes recruits physically fail.

Overall training would be best, work on hiking with a backpack also.

During infantry OSUT, you have to go through an 18 mile ruck march with 50+ lbs of equiptment, how to prepare?

You will do that shortly before graduation..after15 weeks of Infantry training. You will work up to it.

And btw..when you get to a regular Infantry unit...especially Light Infantry..you will be doing 12 mile-ers every 3 months (or more) and a 25 mile-er every 6 months..carrying 80-120 pounds...just so you know

How do I prepare for army basic training?

A2A: User-11152517157747461310 gives a good answer, if at all possible you should follow his advice. Getting started on the right foot is a good idea. Being the guy who gets a first time go in every event, and whose name the drill sergeants don’t know will make your life easier. If you are a Bryan Schermerhorn, and you can be first at everything, then maybe it does not hurt to be known. That wasn’t the advice that I was given though. I was told in basic that the drill sergeants shouldn’t know my name unless they read it off my name tape. I took that advice to heart. In AIT (higher GT score than the infantry, got that enlistment bonus) I was the honor graduate. However, if you are not completely successful in all aspects of preparation, it is not the end of the world. Basic Training is not designed to wash you out it is designed to make you a soldier. The people there will teach you, that’s their job. You don’t have to go to basic being proficient as a basic soldier, you just have to come out proficient. As long as you put in the effort, maintain a positive attitude, stay true to the oath you took and remain dedicated to the career you’ve chosen for the next few years you’ll be fine. Hundreds of millions maybe billions of soldiers have made it through US Army initial entry training, you will too.
