Programmers/software Engineers Jobs

How do you get a programmer/software engineer job in oil and gas?

Same way as you get a programmer/software engineer job anywhere else, really. These days it's very hard to break into oil & gas, though, as the entire industry is in the middle of a crisis due to low oil prices.

Which is a better job, software engineer or programmer?

If you’re going for the self teaching path, you’re in for one hell of a ride. In the end, it depends a lot on your own determination, how much you want it. You set your own study times, your own goals, you test yourself, and you have only your past self to compare. It’s completely dependent on how much you are willing to put into it. In the end though, it is a pretty hectic and unclear path, but it rewards you more in my opinion. You can’t learn everything in college, and so you will have to depend on what you do on your own time.

Software Engineer vs. Game Programmer vs. Game Producer?

A software engineer would be looking at about a $65,000 - $80,000 annual salary. If you choose this path get ready to tire out you're fingers...But it is an interesting line of work in my opinion. You'll be looking at a minimum of 4 years college if you're wanting the upper end of that salary mentioned. There is online courses(wasn't able to dig up the info on how much money they cost however)

Game producers, assuming you mean like overseer, earn around $50,000 - $75,000 annually. (college is about the same for them all BTW) The more experienced, veteran producers earn around $70,000 - $90,000 annually.

Game designers are exactly the same really except I recommend considering getting a masters because high quality game designers are in high demand with all the new systems and technology coming out. The best salary I've found for game designers is $100,000 but for the first years of your programming life don't expect anything more than the producer salary.

Producing is stressful, exciting, and fun at the same time. the stress is a bit much for a lot of people though so be prepared for a tough job if you take that path.

Game designers are like software engineers however you need a bit more knowledge when it comes to graphical design as well

What is the "foundation" for being able to get a programming/software engineering job?

The two most foundational things you could study are logic (typically under the guise of Philosophy) and number theory (Math). Logic will teach you the ins and outs of Boolean operations, which will help you better understand control flow in software. Number theory will have you proving and deriving properties of integers and sets, which will give you a better understanding of how computers store and manipulate data (at a semantic level, not a hardware level). Neither of these will get you a job. You need quite a bit of practical knowledge on top of them, but studying these two subjects will hopefully help you understand what you learn later in software engineering at a deep level.

Is Computer Programming Software Development a job for loners?

The old idea that a programmer is a loner locked away in a back room is just a sterotyped image. You have to be able to communicate well with people, often with customers, and to work with others on projects that require more than one developer.

Does Software Engineering involve programming?

I really dislike programming but i want to do something related to computers and the only thing i can think of is MIS (Managment Information systems) which is a computer related career but invloves no programming, but i dont think MIS is right for me.So i was wondering about software engineering......does it really involve programming when you find a job?
