Put Bias In A Sentence

What is the difference between prejudice and bias?

Prejudice refers to 'pre-judging', or deeming something as superior or inferior before looking at the evidence. If there's a trial with a prejudiced judge the outcome is already determined before the defense or prosecution speaks. In practice, such things as race, gender or sexuality have already defined the judge's decision. Bias is the spectrum with prejudice at its extreme end: a biased judge will see and unsee things in a particular 'direction', favoring a particular conclusion. A completely unbiased judge would need an equal amount of persuasion to reach any conclusion, using consistent rules of investigation; a completely biased judge would be prejudiced, always coming to a particular conclusion no matter the investigation. If merely biased they may not have an outcome already determined before the examination begins, but it will be harder to convince them in one direction than another because one arguer is working 'uphill' while another works 'downhill'. The testimony of two women might be needed to match the testimony of a man, for example. The mind of a hardcore conspiracy theorist is an example of such a biased court, up to the extreme of a prejudiced court. The standards of evidence can be changed in two general ways: lowering the standards for evidence in support of a belief, and raising the standards for evidence against a belief. At the lowest possible standard, the claim is evidence of itself; at the highest possible standard, anyone who is not omniscient just cannot be sure of anything. So the Bible is evidence of its own claims, and if challenged believers will ask 'were you there?' or 'are you god?' Bigfoot enthusiasts use the same strategy: claims of Bigfoot's existence are regarded as evidence of themselves, and your disagreement is irrelevant because you weren't there. In this biased court, to show that a piece of footage is a hoax you will have to provide a suit and a polygraphed confession long before they have to provide an actual Bigfoot, and even if you do the work of debunking many believers will still ignore you because you 'weren't there'. They are prejudiced: the judgement was already made before you started talking. They weren't there either, but they don't bother themselves with that thought.

What are some examples of biases?

Thinking women are no good at tech because they are women.Thinking black people are naturally good athletes.Thinking white men make the best quarterbacks.Thinking Germans are dangerous because of Hitler.Thinking Mexicans are lazy.Thinking being poor is the poor person’s fault.Thinking America is the greatest country in the world.

How to use the word prejudice in a sentences and please give me a example?

okay prejudice is like to treating someone unfairly because if skin color, sex(gender), religion, or something else shallow...racist is a form of prejudice. "Because he was prejudice against Jews, he made fun of her because she was Jewish." Good enough? or "She was prejudice toward him for his skin was blue."

Which of the sexes have most violence against them? Why is the society more sympathetic/biased towards only one of them? (both bias for men and for women)

I don’t think violence is the right term. Because women have way more cases of violence against them; it’s not even close.I think you mean injustice of any sort. And in that case, I think it’s closer, but men still come out on the more aggressive side usually.Prime reasons:Men tend to outnumber women in almost every place.More men = dominance.Men tend to be stronger than women, also more aggressive.Result = male dominance.Women have been oppressed for a long time. This has somehow put this notion in the heads of men (and women!) that men are supposed to be better and do more things and women are supposed to stick to the kitchen or homely tasks.Result = male dominance. This is one end of the spectrum. With the advent of social media to make yourself heard, women started coming out with their stories. Some women use it to punish men for crimes of other men (Men rape women, so now I will accuse you to teach a lesson to all men!). Is sounds sensible in a twisted sense but it is never a good idea to punish a man for a crime he himself didn’t commit. Yes, men have usually been on the oppressor side of things but that doesn’t mean it’s always men who are wrong. But because of the history, an accusation is enough to sentence a man for life, in public opinion; it can take him months and years to untangle, and he will never walk out with a clean reputation. So either men dominate, or they get crushed. There seems to be no middle ground these days. Some factions of the society seem to be acknowledging this problem of polarity. More people are realising that it doesn’t matter what the first story breaks the news as…. it’s very important to understand the full context before even beginning to accuse someone. There’s a life at stake here. It’s no matter to rush to conclusions about.

IQ test cultural bias?

There are many things that can make an IQ test culturally biased. For example, most IQ tests are strongly English oriented. There are a lot of Latinos that come to America and they are not native speakers. This strongly disables them from getting high scores on an IQ test that is strongly English based. I think California has actually banned many IQ tests (they have many Latinos) because they are strongly English based. New laws have also been put in place making it wrong to place somebody in Special Ed based upon IQ tests alone because of things like this.

Other cultural biased IQ tests are questions that refer to american culture. For example:

1. Napoleon is to beer as _____ is to salad dressing.

a. Washington

b. Arthur

c. Cesar

If their culture does not have Cesar Salad Dressing than most likely they are not going to understand this question and probably get it wrong.

There are actually people out there that are trying to make the IQ tests more culturally fair. It hasn't been achieved yet but they are still working on it.

And as the person above me said, IQ tests often are based upon your own education. People's IQ's actually raise after they further their education.... many of the skills needed to get a good grade in the IQ test are skills you learn in school. That is why many minority groups often get lower scores. They are less likely to have equal opportunities to whites which also means less education opportunities. IQ tests can reflect personal intelligence, but they also can reflect your education....

What does "Writing in a biased manner" mean?

Biased means to slant or only select those points which support your position. By ignoring those points which oppose your position, you are clouding a topic.
For immigration, you might argue the virtues of having an open policy, without restrictions. However, this would mean ignoring those valid points which warn about allowing too many to enter a nation at a specific length of time, thereby stressing the infrastructure, such as medical care, and education.

What are some examples of bias?

Favouring a sports team to win just because you like that team.

Choosing a new employee because you know that person or because they're better looking.

Voting for a person because they're your friend, not because they would do a good job.

What does the phrase 'gender biased assumption' mean?

"his comment that Mina has male qualities in her thinking, praising her for possessing 'a brain that a man should have were he much gifted' is to a 21st century reader an example of outdated gender-biased assumptions" - Dracua York Notes.
Just in case you wanted me to put the phrase into context! :)
