Question About Fafsa/ School Financial Aid Application

I have a couple questions about financial aid for Colleges?

Hey guys! So I just finished my FAFSA application online to apply for financial aid and I have two questions:

(1) Is this all I have to do to finish my financial aid applications for my schools (Texas A&M, UT Austin, UT Brownsville, UT Arlington, UNT, and the University of Houston)? In other words, did all I have to do was to finish the FAFSA application and wait and check again on their web page and whatnot?

(2) How long do I typically have to wait until my schools will respond to my financial aid application?

Fafsa financial aid process?

I don't understand this really at all and trying to look up answers is more confusing because I can't find set anwers. Any or help with all answers would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a senior in high school currently doing PSEO. I applied at my college and first question is when will I find out if I'm accepted?

After submitting the fafsa application, what exactly happens? Is the reward letter the amount of aid that will actually be received from the school? I read that as soon as you submit the application it will let you know how much if a pell grant you will receive..is that true? Basically I just want to know when you find out how much financial aid you will receive from the fafsa and when.

How much on average is received from filling out a fafsa? I know everyone is different but just some idea?

FAFSA (financial aid) questions? im a little confused?

Your application was initially processed and has been forwarded to the schools you selected. The schools themselves then put together individual financial aid packages for you. Each school will send you an award letter (typically this is done through e-mail). You then review each financial aid package from each school and either "accept" or "decline" the awards at the school you decide to go to. The amount of financial aid you qualify for could be different at each school.
You will not receive any money until after you have enrolled in courses. You enroll in classes first and then the money is sent directly to the school and used to pay your tuition and fees. Anything left over is refunded to you for living expenses. Depending on your school, this may take several weeks after the semester has started so you should plan to have money to cover your expenses (including textbooks) for the first few weeks of school.
If the courses that you want are unavailable and you don't enroll then you won't get any money for the semester.

Are schools allowed to ask for bank statements to give financial aid?

As non-merit financial aid becomes less available, universities are asking for more proof of income and assets. It is to your advantage to provide the documentation because if as you state, your family assets are less than they believe, the financial aid department will put you into consideration for university based aide to make up the difference financially for you to attend their school if you are their desired choice.

As an example, I went to Xavier University and could not qualify for much non-merit based financial assistance because I owned property and had investments. However, because they really wanted me to attend and felt I would be an asset to the university, they totaled up my merit based scholarships, the in kind assistance and loans, compared that to the tuition and fees and my asset availability and investments, found a net difference in my favor and offered me additional funds to attend their school. I could have attended a publically funded state school just with what I had because their tuition for in state students was so much lower and I had been accepted. They have now to verify "estimates" before they can consider you for real money.

I really think they are trying to help you here with their own additional university based scholarships, honor loans and assistance.

FAFSA Question?

NO! You cannot be denied a federal financial aid loan because you make too much money. The only way to get denied a federal financial aid loan is if you've been convicted of a drug felony, if you've maxed out the loans already or if you are on financial aid probation because of poor grades. This website has answers to all of your financial aid questions. Also, contact your financial aid office. They are a great resource for financial aid questions. Good luck
PS - If your income is high, you will not be eligible for GRANTS, but federal unsubsidized loans are not tied to income!

FAFSA questions--confused!!!?

Yes, estimate if that is what you need to do to meet your state deadline. You update it later after your parents have filed and you have the accurate information. The FAFSA will ask "Have you or will you file" answer this yes and estimate.

Use the 08/09 if you are going to attend school between July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009. If you are going before July 1, 2008 use the 07/08 application.

Cal Grant is a grant from State of California (California Student Aid Commission) and their deadline is March 2. They extract your information from the FAFSA which is a federal (Department of Education) application and does not have the same deadline requirements. It is imperitive you fill out the FAFSA by March 2 so the state can pick up the informaiton.

Cal Grant GPA Verification Form
To apply for a Cal Grant award, students must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the March 2, 2008* filing deadline. In addition to the FAFSA, Cal Grant applicants must have their GPA certified by the filing deadline.

The GPA may only be certified by the school electronically or on a paper GPA form. No transcripts will be accepted. The fastest and most secure way for a student to submit his or her Cal Grant GPA is to have their school electronically upload the GPA directly to the California Student Aid Commission’s (Commission) system. Please ask your school to submit your GPA electronically to the Commission by the March 2, 2008 filing deadline.

If the school cannot submit electronically, the paper Cal Grant GPA Verification form must be certified by the school. Just click on the link below to print a copy to take to your school for verification. Remember, you must take the form to your school and have your GPA verified before you send it to the Commission by the March 2, 2008* Cal Grant deadline.

* March 2, 2008 is a Sunday, applications postmarked Monday, March 3, 2008, or earlier will be accepted as on-time.
