Question About Going To A University After High School

University a year after high school?

The ACT is merely a measure of how fast you can answer questions, so it's sort of like high school and college tests.

I don't know about your ability to get scholarships as every scholarship has its own requirements. Contact the university that you want to attend and find out about the various scholarships that are available and what their requirements are.

Generally when you apply to colleges, universities, and for scholarships, you give them written permission to ask your high school for transcripts, so there is no need for you to get many copies "just in case". You only need one for your own records.

You really need to be doing various community service activities, that is very impressive on scholarship applications. You say you are shy, but it's not that difficult to find out what volunteer opportunities are available at local hospitals or non-profit organizations. All you have to do is ask. Most non-profits are very happy to get even one hour a week of volunteer help. Just don't get involved with too many because you might forget a commitment !

You say you have family issues. Sometimes the only way to escape family issues is to move away - like attend a university several miles away. I figure you need the scholarship to be able to afford it.

Getting the RN degree might be a huge stretch if you can't get the money for college expenses from family or scholarships; you might have to sit out and work for a spell. It would be easier for you to begin working as a practical nurse or an orderly and "work your way up" by earning money, getting on-the-job experience, and getting the more challenging nursing certifications when you can afford the time and expense of the studies.

The problem with college studies is they are book-oriented and not hands-on. It's easy to teach a large amount of detail in a classroom, but difficult to teach the same in laboratories or hospitals. That's why I suggest working. You can always read college books in your time off and self-study, which will make the college work easier when you take classes later.

Once you finish High School, can you go straight to University or do you have to do college, then university?

I'm a mom of my 17 year old son. I want to know once you finish high school, if you can go straight to university. I know one of my friend's that have a daughter going straight to university. Can you do this or do you have to go to College first, then university?

Please give me more information.
Thank You,
Maria
(i'm using my daughter's account, ignore the "Sabby" nonsense) :-]

What is the opportunity cost of going to a university for four years after high school instead of working?

Opportunity cost: whatever must be given up to obtain some item

The opportunity cost would be the lost wages (ie the wages that would have been gained if you had been working). You could also include the cost of housing and food, but you need a place to live and food no matter what you are doing, so those are generally not included.

Does popularity stuff go away after high school?

Most people at my high school go to the same college. I've found that I'm actually friends with more people from my high school this year in college, especially more of the "popular" and very attractive girls. when i see them at parties and stuff, a lot of girls from high school i barely ever talked to actually came up to me and acted like we were really good friends, even though we barely even knew each other. it just kinda seemed weird to me, cause the only about me that's changed is i got my braces off, which shouldn't make that much of a difference. otherwise i'm the exact same person from high school personality wise. do you think now that the popular "cliques" are kinda broken up, people are just friendlier or something?
