Question About The Autobiography Of Do

Should I publish my autobiography?

I may differ here a little. Certainly write it if you feel driven to. Keep in mind that the success of such a book will likely not depend on how interesting your life is but on how well you tell the story. It’s the writing that draws the readers more than anything else. I remember trying to help a retired undercover law enforcement officer write about his life and he was able to successfully make the account of a firefight he was directly involved in during a hostage rescue, dead dull. The story was amazing—but not worth reading when he finished. The reason for writing should always be because you feel driven to do it. I used to tell students, “Don’t be a writer unless you have to.” To learn to write auto/biography, read fiction. Learn how to tell an interesting story. The only difference is one actually happened and the other didn’t but it still needs to have all the elements of storytelling.

Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin question?

First part is aimed at entertaining readers who have heard of him with an account of Ben Franklin's life, only incidentally showing off the great scientist, diplomat. It's a more appealing read. The second part is aimed at establishing Franklin as the wise old man, the great sage in world affairs--so it is aimed at posterity. However, the real audience is Franklin, trying to prove to himself how successful and great a man he was; he was older then and was trying to preserve his legacy.

The Autobiography of an ex- colored man questions?

Is the narrator's decision to return to the United States from Europe motivated by "a desire to help those I considered my people," or by "a desire to distinguish myself"? Why is this a question the narrator has "never definitely answered"? (p. 107)

Why does the narrator stay and watch the burning of the black man? Why does he feel only shame afterward?

Why does the narrator consider his passing for white a "capital joke"? (p. 144)

Why does it sometimes seem to the narrator that he has "never really been a *****," and at other times that he has been "a coward, a deserter"? (p. 153)

Why does the narrator repeatedly refer to the life of blacks in America as a "freemasonry"?

Is the narrator a racist?

For Further Reflection
Do you agree with the narrator that members of minority groups are more critical of themselves than anyone else is?

Do you fault the narrator for deciding to pass as white, or do you believe he justifies his decision?

What Should I Include In My Autobiography?

For an autobiography? It's about yourself. You should include stuff about your life. Such as: Where you were born, what inspires you, when you were born, stuff about your life, etc.

Think about what you have done since you were a kid. Like.. What did you like to do on weekends, or who were your childhood friends & did have you have any brothers or sisters. If you have any, then briefly try to describe them in the best way you could.

Hope that helps!
