Question Here Because I Of The Stupid Max Character Count.

Why does Quora have a character limit for questions?

In my own experience, the character limit is ridiculous. Of course we don't want junk questions, but that's what the Downvote is for! If the question is too long or inappropriate, the community will ignore or downvote. Now I can't ask questions that require detailed explanation. For example, "is there XXX application on the market?" I need to list my requirements for this question, but I can't.Many people who write answers on Quora make great effort to answer in detail. In respect to their effort and good intention, they should be able to see as much detail of the question as possible. Character limit works for Twitter because it encourages fast information transmission, but for many, Quora is a place where you SLOW DOWN and ask questions that CAN'T be explained by Googling or friends. It is the place to write careful and detailed question and answers, to gain and share quality knowledge.Surely most questions can be asked in one or two lines, but those are like "What is the most frustrating thing about being a computer programmer?" Does Quora think these  kind of questions valuable? I can just google for the answer. Setting a character limit for questions is encouraging these type of questions and discouraging well-thought questions, and in the long run, deviating from Quora's slogan: "The best answer to any question"ANY question? Good luck, Quora.

Do cops intentionally ask stupid questions or are they just stupid?

Such as: "have you been drinking tonight?" the correct answer is always yes and anyone who says no is a lair. I've passed 3 field sobriety tests for drinking dr. pepper and driving 5mph over the speed limit because they don't bother to ask what I have been drinking.

Such as: "So where ya headed?" Home. While holding my ID he askes "where is home" and I point to the address on my ID

Such as: "What color are your eyes" while writing out a ticket he had to fill in eye color, he didn't like my response of "I don't know you tell me, your LOOKING at me". We went thru that discussion for about 5mins while he kept thinking about using his radio.

Such as: "Mind if I search your vehicle" I respond Yes. Cop asks yes I can or yes you mind? I reply If it confuses you that much you shouldn't have asked such a question.

No BS I'm serious these are actual conversations between me and various officers.

So are cops stupid?

Am I being stupid/obsessed because I write fanfiction?

Lots of great feedback here, so I'll only offer my two cents.

It's true that fanfiction can be used as an excellent tool for improving your own writing and, later, you can move on to focusing more on your own original ideas. But what everyone has so far glossed over is the power of fanfic to tap into a built in audience who will WRITE BACK TO YOU! For people who love to communicate their ideas in writing, there is nothing more satisfying than having total strangers write back in a relatively short time span. You very rarely get that from professional, published writing outside of your circle of friends and family. Or, I suppose that in these modern times, authors can have their own web sites where fans can post comments. However the time lag between the time when you finish writing and the piece gets published is much greater than with fanfiction. Performing artists can tell you that there is no other thrill than performing for a live audience. Well, posting fanfiction gives you that same feeling.

I wrote two fanfic stories about 12 years ago for the first fandom that I became obsessed about. I was in my mid-30's and had previously thought fandom was stupid. But I learned a great deal about writing fiction through those two stories. The all-time best fanfiction writer in that fandom has gone on to become a published author and I am honored to say that I "knew her when." Just a few weeks ago, she treated her fans with a new fanfic that she dashed off in between completing the final edits to Book 2 of her trilogy (for Tor Books) and finishing the rough draft of Book 3.

So while the young kids might be giving fanfiction a bad name, this is one vote for hoping that you never forsake writing them so that those of us who appreciate quality writing can continue to obsess together over our favorite works through this shared activity.

Why do Quorans have only 250 words to formulate their questions? Somebody may need suggestions on their personal views which are hard to delineate within 250 words.

I don't know why Quora has set a word limit for questions. However, as a writer and editor I believe that questions in general need to be short and to the point.Instead of feeling cheated because of a limited word count, use this to your advantage. Take some time to collect your thoughts and ask a short, precise, and direct question. That way, your question will be easy to read and more people and experts will want to respond to it.Remember, you are the one seeking answers. So you need to ask questions in a way that makes others want to help you. Otherwise, they will simply scroll past a convoluted, confused body of text with no end in sight.

Teenagers get no respect? Age restrictions dumb.?

This isn't a gender issue, kid.

It's not even store policy.

It's the LAW.

You expect people to break the law for you. It's not her fault that the law exists. What you are mad about is that she isn't willing to risk her job and a fine so you can get a video game.

Apparently, guys who work in that store are stupid enough to take the risk for you. This girl isn't, and good for her!

If there's a sexist view to take on this, it would have to be that girls are intelligent enough to know better than to put their asses on the line for some punk kid, and guys are not.

It doesn't matter if you think the law is stupid. It doesn't matter if SHE thinks the law is stupid. It doesn't even matter if your mother or the store owner thinks the law is stupid. The law is the law, and authorities monitor this stuff. A cashier selling to a minor would get fired and fined. That is the fact.

It is selfish and rude of you to expect someone to break the law for your convenience.

The answer is simple.

Get your mom or dad to come along with you.

Why is that a problem?

Why does Twitter limit the message length to 140 characters?

The reason is so that when tweets were sent via SMS, messages wouldn't be split. SMS messages are 160 characters and they wanted to leave 20 chars for the username. From an interview with Twitter creator Jack Dorsey:http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/...It was really SMS that inspired the further direction -- the particular constraint of 140 characters was kind of borrowed. You have a natural constraint with the couriers when you update your location or with IM when you update your status. But SMS allowed this other constraint, where most basic phones are limited to 160 characters before they split the messages. So in order to minimize the hassle and thinking around receiving a message, we wanted to make sure that we were not splitting any messages. So we took 20 characters for the user name, and left 140 for the content. That’s where it all came from.
