Question On Purse Bids

What is a purse bid in boxing?

In the sport of boxing, whenever there is a title eliminator, a mandatory title defense, or a fight for a vacant title, the promoters of each fighter attempt to compromise a purse split but if no compromise can be reached, then the sanctioning body in charge of the bout will call a purse bid.

There is always a minimum bid set by the sanctioning body and depending on how big the fighters are, if the fight will be on television, if both of the fighters are well-known, and many other factors, that determines the minimum bid- sometimes the minimum bid may only be $50,000 and other times it may be over a million dollars. The promoter who bids the most money wins the purse bid and therefore, he gets to determine where the fight will take place.

Typically, under the sanctioning body's rules, the champion will receive 75 percent of the purse whereas the challenger will receive 25 percent, however there are exceptions to the rule such as if one of the fighters is much more of a big name and draws more revenue than the other fighter, he will sometimes get a bigger percentage of the purse after getting approval from the sanctioning body. In fights for vacant titles or title eliminators, the purse is usually split 50/50 between the 2 fighters, however there are also exceptions to this rule as well- sometimes the higher ranked fighter or the fighter who is a bigger name and draws more revenue for the fight will get the bigger purse split after getting the approval of the sanctioning body. Each of the fighters also does not get all of the money that their split includes because they must pay the sanctioning fees, and the must pay their promoters and trainers their cut of the money (which can vary depending on the fighter's contract).

So, to use your example with the 2 million dollars and doing it in a general sense without including any exceptions, here are the different scenarios:

~ Champion defending against mandatory challenger- champion will receive $1.5 million while challenger will receive $500,000 and the fight will take place where the promoter who won the bid wants it to take place.

~ Fight for a vacant title or title eliminator- both fighters will receive $1 million and the fight will take place where the promoter who won the bid wants it to take place.

Would Any of You Pay $16,000 For A Purse?

I am watching a special on 20/20 about how much women spend on totes and purses. And they claimed that a "Birkin" brand purse they showed, could cost up to 16,000 dollars. I was in shock, although I don't know why I am shocked about the costs of anything anymore. lol Would any of you pay that much for a purse, or have any of you ever paid that much? Just curious....

Is my Disney Dooney and Bourke purse worth more since it is no longer made?

Is my Disney Dooney and Bourke purse worth more since it is no longer made?

I have a few Disney Dooney and Bourke purses. One with the tags still on it, never used. I see people trying ( that being the operative word) to sell the same purse for 2 and 3 times what was paid for them because they no longer make that style or use the same print. Are they really worth more? Or is it just wishful thinking?

Can a pomeranian fit into a dog purse?

Toy Pomeranian's I would say no. I have a standard sized Pom, and she definitely can't fit in my purse. If you want one that can fit in a purse try a Min Pinscher, a chihuahua, or toy dogs like that. Alos look into teacups, but if price is a concern, these are usually very expensive.
