Questions About Mos Field 58xx

How to get field mp in marine corps?

You are very correct in what you say except for the fact about the MP MOS being changed. I have never heard anything about that.

Once you arrive in your unit you will know if you can volunteer or not. It all depends on where you get stationed and what is going on.

Field MP's are in great demand. And please remember that as an MP you are not an infantry Marine.

There is no golden rule that applies to any MOS. What you can or can not do will depend on where you get sent to and what they need at hat specific time. This is why no one here can tell you what you can or can not do for certain.

Marine corps aviation mos?

The AD is a recruiter code for MOS categories, not one that is numerically assigned a Marine in the field. You mentioned engines, in this case aircraft engines.

Repair of aircraft engines applies to Power Plant maintenance, MOS 61xx series. At Pensacola, you would receive basic aircraft engine (power plants) repair training. If you pass that phase, you will be assigned a specific engine type e.g. T-58, T-79, etc - each one applies to a particular type of aircraft eg AV-8B, F/A-18, MV-22, CH-46 helo, etc. This is where the type of squadron that you will utimately be assigned.

At the squadron level, this is called Organizational Maintenance Activity (OMA). At the OMA level, you will be responsible for pulling engines from the aircraft, installing engines into the aircraft, connecting all components required to make the engine functional, and be able to make adjustments to optimize engine performance. If at least a Cpl, you might be involved in ground testing of the installed engine.

The level of engine repair above OMA is Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA). This is one level above the squadron and is part of the Marine Aviation Logisitics Squadron (MALS). At this level, you receive bad engines from the OMA, take them apart, and put them back together again. Once repaired, they are sealed in a special engine container waiting to be used at the OMA level. If you cannot repair them, they are sent to the Depot for repair (top level of maintenance repair done by civilian experts). If senior enough, you might run the engine test cell to ensure that the engine meets specs.

Both OMA and IMA skills are great for a future civilian job; though IMA, you get more training and more in need with companies who make the engines - great pay. This is one reason why the military has a high turnover rate for aviation and computer science type MOSs.

That is an overview. I was an Aircraft Maintenance Officer (AMO) in one of the squadrons that I was assigned with power plants being one of my maintenance shops. Important job, as all aviation maintenance MOSs are. Good choice if you get it, BUT expect to spend a lot of time in the books and taking apart and putting back together jet engines. They are pieces of art with virtually zero tolerance for error.

Lieutenant Colonel, US Marine Corps-Retired (Marine aviator/AMO)

What do you know about MOS 58xx Marine Mp in the Marine Corps?

One you graduate from the school house, you can go one of two ways, youll get attached to a field unit, or youll get attached to a garrison unit. Garrison are the guys that drive around base and rarely get deploy whereas the field MP's commonly get attached to infantry units on deployments. When you deploy with an infantry unit, youll end up going on a lot of foot patrols. If you dont get attached to an Infantry unit, youll probably deploy to leatherneck or something and be PMO on base. If K9 is interesting to you, once you get to you fleet, you can request to go to K9 school and thats really cool to be deployed with your dog.

Firefighter is cool, MP is cool.... its really up to you and what you would like to do. As I said before MP you could go onw of two ways, be in the fire fight or be a blue falcon (Buddy f*ck*er). MP's are held to a high standard, youre there to enforce military and civilian law. Good luck on your decision!

What do Marine correctional specialists do?

First and foremost, thank you for your service and sacrifices for our country. I have the utmost respect for our troops.

I have always wanted to be a Marine and plan to join the Marine Reserve. I am interested in being a correctional specialist/5831. But I don't know a much information about the job conditions.

Please answer the following.

1) Is this a boring or relatively exciting job?

2) Is there a chance of me being deployed to Gitmo?

3) Are military prisons similar in any way to the violence/narcotics problems of civilian prisons?

4) What would my daily routine be when I am deployed?

5) If I go to Gitmo, what type of terrorists would I be guarding?

I know that you don't get to pick your MOS, but I am DQ'd from being an MP or any other job in the 58 field due to my history of past depression/mental illness. (According to this page).

Will me being disqualified from any other job in this field guarantee me the MOS 5831?

I want a career in law enforcement in the civilian world.

Thank you for your time.
