Random Pain In My Head Help

I have random jolts of pain in my head?

Idiopathic stabbing headache was first described in 1964, at which time it was called "ophthalmodynia periodica" (Lansche 1964). Since then, brief, sharp, jabbing pains that occur either as single episodes or in repeated flurries have been designated by various terms including: "icepick-like pains," "sharp short-lived head pains," "needle-in-the-eye syndrome," and "jabs and jolts syndrome"

Idiopathic stabbing headache is characterized by brief, sharp, severe jabbing pains about the head that occur either as single episodes or as brief repeated volleys. The pain resembles a stab from an icepick, nail, or needle and typically lasts from a fraction of a second to 1 to 2 seconds. Idiopathic stabbing headaches may have the shortest duration of all known headaches. The frequency of attacks varies immensely, ranging from 1 attack per year to 50 attacks per day. The pain is characteristically located in the distribution of the trigeminal nerve. Icepick-like pains are more common in women and do occur in children.

Random sharp pains in my head?

ive been having these random sharp pains all over my head all day. I haven't had nausea or blurring vision or anything. I just took advil. Its sometimes on my sides, back, top and my forehead and its sharp and annoying. Should I be worried?

Why do I get random sharp pains in my head?

Every so often I'll get a random sharp pain in the top of my head, adjacent to my ear. It's usually on the left side, but sometimes it happens on the right. It's just a sharp pain. It almost feels as if someone is directly poking the top of my brain with a needle, but it only lasts a second or two. I first experienced it once when I was only 10, but it stopped until recently. I'm 18 now and the needle is back. It happens sometimes weekly, monthly, or every few minutes. I believe the intervals to be irrelevant because they're so unpredictable. I've heard that it might be stress, but that wasn't a professional opinion, so I don't know if I believe it. If you have a medical background or for some other reason know what you're talking about, please help me understand this. I'm not worried, but I'm very curious and frustrated.

Random eye pain??? * HELP?

Obviously you should go to an eye doctor BUT some people can't afford that soooo......in my opinion it sounds like you have strained one of the muscles around the eye, you not sleeping probably did play a roll in you doing it by trying to keep your eyes open, more than likely when you wake up it will be gone.....maybe a little "sore" feeling but that's about it........no sleep is probably why you have a headache also......its your brains way of saying "HEY I am tired and need to rest!" So gooooo to bed and hope you feel better when you wake up :)

Why am I having random sharp pains in my head and neck, along with headache that has lasted for 3 day?

It started thursday or friday and I was getting sharp stabbing pains in my right temple that hurt so bad it made me cry. That happened about 5 times. That night i was nauseous all night. The next day wasn't so bad but I still had a dull headache all day. The next day I started getting sharp pains in the back of my head and throughout my neck. I also had a headache and was nauseous. Today I have had a headache and sharp pains in the back of my head and down my neck. It was so bad I had to step out of my work and sit down for abut 5 minutes. I am 23 and I had a stroke 3 years ago. My BP usually runs about 90/60. Lately it has been like 119/79.I have also had periods of lightheadedness. What could be going on?

Random spot on my head hurts when I touch it?

Today I noticed that whenever I press down on a certain spot on the top of my head (it's towards the back) it's like painful.. Almost like pins and needles. There's no bump on my head and I haven't hit my head there or anything and there's no chance that I could've gotten bit there by anything. I thought maybe it was my hair (you know how sometimes when you move your hair in different directions it can be painful), but it's not. It's painful like right on the surface of my scalp.
It doesn't bother me unless I press down on it, so I try not to do that haha.

I'm just wondering, does anyone know what this might be or could be related to?
Thanks.

How do you prevent random neck pain?

My suggestion is to be checked out by your doctor.I had persistent neck pain for several years.I had thought that it was because I was getting older, and arthritis.Boy, did it turn out I was wrong. In the last three years I started having severe shoulder pain to the point that I was losing the use of my arms. This threw me off because, prior, I use been given a antibiotic called Cipro-floxon.This antibiotic caused the tendons in both shoulders to rupture. I had assumed that the tendons ruptured again.A CAT scan later, showed the compression in my http://neck.It turned out that I had a congenital defect in my neck, that was compressing my spinal cord.I wound up having C4 through C7 fused in my neck. The neck and shoulder pain are both gone, and I feel much better.I hadn’t realized just how much the pain was making me a grouchy douchebag to my family.Don’t be the typical boneheaded matcho man, go get checked.10 simple exercises you can do yourself to fix your neck and back pain: The #1 Muscle that Actually Fixes the Pain

Random sharp pain on top right side of head, very worried?

I'm 16, not over weight, I'm very lazy, I don't really do anything all day other than be on some kind of electronic(sad I know) I suffer from anxiety(especially social.) and I'm a huge hypochondriac. Okay so I was just laying in my bed and all of a sudden got this sharp pain on the top right side of my head that lasted about 5 to 10 seconds.I got it two times then decided to get up to get on stairs and tell my mom but then it went away. I've experience sharp pain at the top of my head before but usually it's on the top left side and the pain isn't as severe as it was today and it was also on the right side which worried me cuz it's usually on left. And this pain felt slightly different. I have had an Mri and cats an before on this pain when I get in on the left side and it came back normal, this is a totally new pain that I haven't had checked out yet because it just happened. I got curious so I started looking up things on the Internet and saw things about having a stroke or aneurysm and I started to panic thinking that's what I'm having.... Also for the past two days I've been having dizzy spells and feeling as if I was going to faint but never did faint does anyone think they can help me a little bit as to what might be going on before I go wake my mom up. If this pain does happen again I am going to wake her up because it really does scare me, but I just want to see what someone else thinks of this thanks! Also no I did not bump my head

Exercise and head pain?

Certainly contact your physician to rule out anything serious. However, it might be one of two types of exericsed induced headaches:

1. Exertion headaches: also called the "weight lifters headache" which is usuallly of sudden onset of lifting something heavy and is described as sharp and piercing and it usually subsides within a few minutes of cessation of the lift.

2. Effort headaches: Usually induced by strenous cardiovascular activity. It can occur between minutes or hours after exercises and can last up to two days. It can have migranous feastures such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, etc.

I, am a PT myself and found a helpful article in JOSPT (i've lost the reference, but I think you could probably find it on CINAHL by doing a search for "effort headaches" and JOSPT ( I think).

I get effort headaches myself...to the point where I used to vomit. It took a long time for me to understand the triggers...which for me are: dehydration/hyponatremia (taking gatorade and a magnesium supplment help), warm temperatures, hypoglycemia and watching out for my heart rate. Taking an anti-inflammatory prophylactically has been helpful when I know I"m subject to one (ie, if it's hot out or I exercise in the morning).

Through careful training, I've been able to increase my tolerance for increased heart rate. HIIT has been helpful. The short bursts of high intensity heart rate up to 90-100% max for 30-45 seconds followed by30-45 seconds or even up to a couple minutes walking for 9 reps (rather than working prolonged at 75% for 30-40 minutes) has been beneficial. Not only have I increased my speed, but my tolerance for prolonged cardiovascular activity has been increased.

If it IS an effort or exertion headache, they are usually benign and anti-inflammatories are the standard of treatment.

Make sure all the nasties are ruled out, but if everything turns out fine, consider what I have mentioned above
