Read This About School

Do I have to READ A LOT in law school????

Yes, there is a lot of reading while in law school and in the practice of the profession.

In addition to the volume, the text is also very dense since most people are not accustomed to reading cases when they first start off law school. I know many people, especially during their first year of law school, read cases over and over before they comprehend the text. I can even remember some people, including myself, having Black's law dictionary next to me while reading the first couple of weeks of being a 1L (1st year law student).

Additionally, you cannot skip on the readings like many students do during undergrad because the socratic method is predominately used in 1L classes. If you skip out on the readings, you WILL be embarrased by the professors. My contracts professor even yelled at a student in my class during class time in front of all the other students because he didn't read the case. Don't worry though, the professors, at least at my school, become more relaxed and lenient about this after the first year.

However, the reading gets much easier after the first year even though the amount of reading required increases because you become accustomed to the reading. The reading becomes easier to comprehend because you know what to look for and understand how cases are laid out.

In the first year of law school, the majority of law students brief cases so that they are prepared to be called on. Briefing cases usually mean that the student lays out the (1) facts, (2) procedural posture, (3) holding, and (4) premise for the holding.

What books were you made to read in high school?

I'm hopefully going to be a teacher this September and was hoping to get a better idea of what books you could remember having to go through for English class. Any help would be greatly appreciated! (Letting me know which ones you loved and which ones you didn't like at all would be fantastic, too!)

Can children read before going to school?

Yes, some can. Both of my sons were reading before starting school—the oldest was reading fluently by three years old, and the youngest at the same age knew about a hundred words and could read simple sentences. Is it necessary that children read before starting school? I don’t think so—that’s what school is for, and studies have shown that many children who are taught to read early end up at the same level as the other kids after a few years anyway. So parents who put a lot of effort in are probably wasting their time (and possibly causing unnecessary stress to their children).Of course, if it comes naturally that’s different—it means that the child is ready for it and that it’s probably a result of a natural academic aptitude. In my oldest son’s case, he taught himself to read without any help. He was well on his way to being proficient before I even realised it. My youngest son also had some natural aptitude—although less than his brother—and probably was spurred on by seeing what his brother could do. In both cases, their academic progress has been consistent with their early learning—my oldest son way ahead of his peers, and my second son in the top ten percent or so.Judging by the number of early learn-to-read tools such as flash cards and videos, I think my opinion that early reading shouldn’t be forced is probably an unpopular one. But being a toddler is a big job—preschoolers have so much to learn in their first four or five years of life anyway that it seems unfair to add to the burden when it isn’t really necessary. At What Age Do Kids Learn Best? Why pushing kids to learn too much too soon is counterproductiveAre We Pushing Kids to Read Too Early?

LOW HIGH SCHOOL GPA. PLEASE READ.?

4-year universities will not count electives and art classes for your GPA so you`re pretty much screwed. My suggestion is to register for community college for next year and start working toward getting an Associate`s Degree. Then you can transfer into a 4-year college as a junior because your AD will outweigh your high school diploma. You can also ask your school counselor about dual-enrollment. That`s when you also receive high school credit from classes in community college. The grades will be curved up by 15% for your high school GPA if your school doesn`t follow the 6.0 scale. Good luck! And don`t give up hope.

What are books that everyone should read in high school?

These are my favourites and I recommend these to everyone. These books are quite simple to read. The Kite Runner by Khaled HosseiniA Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled HosseiniAnd The Mountains Echoed by Khaled HosseiniAll the above three books would make you appreciate the things you have in your life. Two precious gifts: the freedom to be yourself and the will to do as you wish. The Book Thief by Markus ZusakA Fraction of the Whole by Steve ToltzA Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger [ This is a must for high school students. You would understand your Angst, more specifically Teen-age Angst ]Zero to One by Peter Thiel [ This will give you an idea about how important it’s to stand-out to thrive. Unlike the past generation, the next generation would be dominated by technology and to create an identity it’s imperative to not be copy-cat.]8. 1984 by George Orwell9. Animal Farm by George Orwell [ This book will help you understand the world is selfish and it’s good to be a little selfish sometimes. Keeping yourself above others isn’t bad as long as it doesn’t hurt anybody. Sometimes it’s better to do things just for others].Except the first three all are classics. Well, they are classics for a reason.

High School Summer Reading=stupid?

I believe that it is; I am required to read two novels every summer, in my high school and then do multiple reports and projects on them. The work is due the first day of school and we, the class, are then later tested on the material.

I feel that this obstructs the summer of High School students, what do you think?

Also, if I were to have chosen more AP courses (which suck at my high school), I would have been given summer work for Calculus and History, on top of English. That includes, reading textbooks and doing pages of work, all due on the first day of school...this is ridiculous. How are we supposed to perform well if we are never given a break?

Can speed reading help in medical school?

Depends on what material you’re reading,Depends on what kind of study methode suits you best,Depends on what kind of purpose you have in mind while deciding to read.I’m not a huge supporter of speed reading when facing exams tomorrow,But I am a huge fan of speed reading while on weekend I’ve decided to have some quality time with myself, in my flat room with no human to talk to, and my exam time is still far far away.
