Right Knee Keeps Dislocating.

Knee dislocation?

u may want to see a GOOD orthopeadist, cause u may to have surgery...

I injured my knee in June of 07 and was told that it was initialy just a sprain and that nothing was torn however after a MRI it showed that i had a minor tear to my MCL and i did PT... but after almost a year of PT and several cortisone injections(to control swelling) as well as several additional MRIs(not to mention eventually several docs) and a reinjury... i finally had surgery to repair a torn meniscus, lateral release of patella(to keep it from continously dislocating), and bone shaving...

anyway i was still in pain for almost a year and my knee completely gave out again(while wearing the brace for my MCL) before it finally got fixed...

Dislocated Knee?

Yes, you momentarily dislocated your patella (kneecap), but since it spontaneously went back into position (without your assistance) it is called a "subluxation" instead of a "dislocation." You have stretched/torn the tissues that help hold your kneecap in place, so you will have a tendency to sublux again in the future. For now, you need to worry about reducing the swelling and maintaining full knee motion. I would elevate your leg and wrap a cold pack around your knee, holding it in place with a compression bandage wrap for 20-30 minutes of every hour. Do not use any hot as it will increase swelling and inflammation (at least not for the first 72 hours). While sitting, bend and straighten your knee fully to make sure you maintain your full motion. You will need to start doing easy exercises to start activating the muscle on the front of your thigh (quadriceps), as this muscle will give your kneecap stability in the future. You can start doing this now by gently tightening this muscle with your legs straight while sitting or lying down. Have your doctor send you to a Physical Therapist, and they can walk you through a program to get you back to where you were. Try to avoid pain for now.

Best knee brace for dislocating knee cap?

Hi,

I would recommend a Lateral J Brace. They are made specifically for dislocating and subluxing patellas. The brace helps apply pressure to the knee cap, to keep it in place during movement. No brace will prevent injury/ re-injury 100% of the time, but wearing the braces will help prevent some occurrences. Once your knee cap dislocates it becomes more prone to repeated dislocations because the tissues have been stretched. Here is a link to a Lateral J Brace, my company also sells a few other similar J braces if this is not what you need, feel free to email us or call with any other questions. http://www.hat-trick-sports.com/shop/donjoy-lateral-j-knee-support-sleeve

Is dislocating a kneecap painful?

I dislocated my right knee cap, when I crashed my quad, it hurt so freaking bad I thought that I was going to die, then as the real pain set it after the initial shock of seeing my knee cap setting off to the right side of where it's supposed to be, I was afraid that I wasn't going to die.Trying to get myself off of the ground was hell itself. Everytime I moved my leg just a fraction of a inch was excruciating and felt like I was going to either vomit or pass out from the pain.I stayed on the ground until EMS immobilized my leg and carted me off.The emergency room gave me a shot of morphine and after that I didn't have a care in the world.I wound up having surgery to repair the right medial meniscus, which was also damaged in the crash.I still have issues with my right knee.I have to wear a leg brace from time to time to keep my knee from buckling. My $3000 costom made knee brace. And for your enjoyment, a picture of my crossedeyed cat, named Dusty.Thank you, United Health Care and Medicare.Well, the brace was made before the health system went all to hell. I can't even imagine what my co-pays would be today.

Kneecap dislocation help!?

So about a month ago i was playing basketball and i hurt my knee and the ortho said i dislocated it and then it poped back in almost immeadeatly. My left knee swelled up and i couldnt walk for a couple days. Now im almost 100% better. My question is, how can i prevent this from happening again because the next i would ligament surgery and what is the best brace for my condition. Btw the doc said that the groove my knee sits in isint to good so that was why it happened. Oh and im also playing basketball for my highschool. Any help is much appreciated.

I have partially dislocated my right shoulder and both of my knees in a span of about 6 months at age 14. I play football and baseball year-round. Is this a medical condition?

A partial dislocation is called a subluxation. I suspect you felt your should come out of socket then relocate. This is a fairly normal phenomena. If your shoulder goes dead and you need to manually relocate it is likely still a subluxation, and it is an injury to your labrum. Still this is no major need for alarm. You should go visit a Physical Therapist with a background in Sports. Now, a knee dislocation is something completely different and more serious. I believe you are using the wrong terminology. A knee dislocation only happens after you have blown out every ligament that holds it together. I suspect you have had patellar subluxation if you are still walking around. It sound like you may have congenital hypermobility aka being double jointed. You should get your self checked by a MD or therapist to rule out serious problems. Otherwise, I suspect you are dealing with normal issue that can rectified with therapy.

In 2012, while playing a game of badminton I dislocated my right knee and suffered ligament tear. Can I play again without going for operation?

Aw man. I really feel for you buddy, I've been through the same thing. But in such cases, particularly ligament tears, it's crucial you go to an orthopaedic who can ascertain what degree tear it is. If it's really really bad and there is no hope for the ligament healing on its own, then yes, you need that surgery. But if it's something like a second degree tear then with a knee cast followed by physiotherapy, you should be fine. But that being said, again I reiterate it's crucial you go to a good orthopaedic who you can trust and has your interests in mind. Someone who wants you to ggo back to playing ASAP makes a big difference.Hope I've helped :)

What happens if you walk on a dislocated knee?

I’m not an orthopedist, but i’ve had my knee dislocate twice. If your kneecap has popped out, but is now back in its normal position, either popped back spontaneously or someone has manually put it back in position, it would be pretty sore. And there may be some soft tissue damage (tendons and ligaments) that should be looked at. Plus it's possible some cartilage or even bone got sheared off when your knee dislocated. But you could probably hobble around on it ok if you had to.If your kneecap is still well out of place, the bones of your leg are misaligned and there is stress on the different tendons and ligaments of your knee. Walking when it's like this would cause excruciating pain and potentially serious soft tissue damage to your knee.
