Anyone who has scabies? Please describe your experience.?

Read below and see more info on scabies:

Scabies is an infestation of the skin with the microscopic mite Sarcoptes scabei. Infestation is common, found worldwide, and affects people of all races and social classes. Scabies spreads rapidly under crowded conditions where there is frequent skin-to-skin contact between people, such as in hospitals, institutions, child-care facilities, and nursing homes.

What are the signs and symptoms of scabies infestation?

Pimple-like irritations, burrows or rash of the skin, especially the webbing between the fingers; the skin folds on the wrist, elbow, or knee; the penis, the breast, or shoulder blades.
Intense itching, especially at night and over most of the body.
Sores on the body caused by scratching. These sores can sometimes become infected with bacteria.
How did I get scabies?

By direct, prolonged, skin-to-skin contact with a person already infested with scabies. Contact must be prolonged (a quick handshake or hug will usually not spread infestation). Infestation is easily spread to sexual partners and household members. Infestation may also occur by sharing clothing, towels, and bedding.

Who is at risk for severe infestation?

People with weakened immune systems and the elderly are at risk for a more severe form of scabies, called Norwegian or crusted scabies.

How long will mites live?

Once away from the human body, mites do not survive more than 48-72 hours. When living on a person, an adult female mite can live up to a month.

Has anyone had scabies?

First dont think there is anything dirty about you. When I was twenty my toddler daughter got it on her ankle and I was mortified,. I thought only dirty people got them. The only thing dirty about it is that is where she got them. The doctor told me they lived in the dirt outside. And yes they are highly contagious.
If a toddler or infant gets them you should only apply the Lindane to the affected areas with a cotton ball and then after the prescribed time wash it off. This is to prevent them from absorbing too much of the medication through their skin. In older children and adults you need to apply it everywhere and then wash off a instructed.
When my youngest got them, this time from a friend whose entire family had them, he gave them to the entire family before I even knew he had it. This time my oldest son was a teenager and when he was told to apply and then shower he didn't put it on his genitals and guess what!? Yup, we all got them again.
They definately like to live in warm, dark and moist spaces, but if not treated right away they will spread and they do this by burrowing under the skin.; As disgusting as it is scabies are a live mite that is living under the skin and they can travel. So the most common places are the finger webs, under breasts, elbow crease, groin and so on, and the most common formation is kind of lines of bumps that are formed as they burrow along.
By the way, yes you need to wash all the linens and the clothes they wore but you do not need to treat the whole house with the sprays and stuff. These things are for lice not for scabies. Hope this helps

Has anyone ever had scabies?

There is an awful itch, especially at night. It affects the groin and buttock area, the area around the belly button and armpits. In people who wash hands often, it may not occur between the fingers. There is a papulovesicular rash. It You get it by contact with other people who have it, or their bed linen.

Has anyone cured scabies without seeing a dr.?

No, you don't need to see a doctor unless you are unsure of the diagnosis, or if the scabies tracks have become infected with bacteria.

You can buy 5% permethrin cream without a prescription at the pharmacy. Use it according to the directions in the pack. There are other over the counter scabies treatments as well, but permethrin is the gentlest on the skin.

Make sure you wash any bedclothes, towels and clothes you've worn in the past three days in the hot wash in the washing machine, and dry them in the sun. Make sure any close contacts get treated, too.

We have had Scabies for months please someone HELP! :'(?

Okay: We caught scabies from a family who lives nearby, when they came over for a visit. Now, it hasn't been just slapping permithrin on our bodies and being done with it, we have had scabies NON STOP for almost four months. We threw out all of our rugs and pillows, and no one is allowed to sit on the furniture. For a while we were boiling our clothes and sheets everyday. - we still wash clothes and sheets everyday- and our washing machine actually broke. My mom washes the floors every day. We have spent thousands of dollars in hotel stays, doctor visits and medications. My Mom, me, and my sister all have it on our heads. My mom tried so many things to get rid of them on her head,, Sulfur, permithrin, apple cider vinegar, rubbing alchohol, ivermectin, and A LOT of different essential oils. Since nothing seemed to work, my mom shaved all her hair of her head. They still have not gone. My sister and I put sulfur ointment on our head for 2 weeks, and we had no spots for a long time (we were overjoyed, as it seemed we were finally done.) but just last night I found 3 new bumps on my head, and one more today.

We have done more than 7 perithimin treatments, and more than 3 ivermectin treatments as well. - The Doctors are no help. They all say it is just a reaction, or that we are allergic to the shampoo we are using. It is CLEARLY scabies, no doubt about it. This is a very stressful time for our family, and I've seen my mom cry more than I ever thought I would. It is just plain miserable. I cry almost everyday. It is SO frustrating. Everything we do seems to be pointless. Since taking walks outside and crying doesn't relieve me of my stress or pain anymore, I cut myself. (Not deeply or badly...I just cut two smiley faces, two hearts, and two smaller-than-an inch scratches-- oh, and twice on my leg but there was no blood.) We just don't know what to do, we feel completely lost. I've read that scabies on the head can cause permanent hair loss-- and that does not sound very appealing.

Please, all I'm asking is that you would please help us. have you had scabies yourself? How did you get rid of it?? please Please PLEASE help. We are desperate :( :'(

What was your strangest Airbnb experience?

My husband and I were traveling to NYC for a family emergency; we booked an AirBnb, in an effort to save some money, and ended up finding a nice-looking room in Flushing. My only experiences with AirBnbs up until that point were with larger groups, where we typically had a whole house to ourselves; I was a little nervous about living in a stranger’s guest bedroom. The hostess was very polite over e-mail, and I felt relieved—maybe a room rental was not as bad as I had feared! We arrived in Flushing at 5 PM on a Saturday. I texted our hostess to let her know that we were on our way to Flushing, and she let us know that she would not be there to meet us, but that her father would be there to meet us.We stood outside and waited for about 10 minutes, before a man appeared ("the father", we presumed) asking us in gruff mandarin if we had rented a room. Luckily, we both speak mandarin. We said yes, he started walking several doors down, saying that the room that we had booked was not available, and that he had another room. At this point, we arrive in front of a larger apartment complex. He instructed us to leave the key in the unit when we leave in the morning, then handed us off to a second man.The second guy brings us up to the fourth floor of the second building. When we arrive on the fourth floor, he led us into the room, which was not as pictured or described in the listing. More concerning was the wet floor. When we asked why, he said it was just mopped--when there was clearly a leak in the roof and major water damage in the ceiling.Guy 2 brushes it off, then immediately asks us for $20 in cash to get the key. We explain that we don't have cash, and he insists "why worry about $20? Just give me the cash, I'll give it back when you give back the key". We explain that the first guy told us to leave the key in the unit, and guy 2 just repeats that he needs the cash as a deposit. We asked him how we'd give the key and get our cash back, and asked if the hostess’s number was the number to call. He said it wasn't the right number, and started giving us another phone number. We interrupt to say that our reservation was with our hostess, and he was confused. He seemed surprised that the first man had a daughter. At this point, there was waaaaaaaay too much shady business for our liking, and we decided to leave and find other accommodations.

How do I get relief from scabies?

The following steps should be included in the treatment of scabies:Apply a mite-killer like permethrin (Elimite). These creams are applied from the neck down, left on overnight, then washed off. This application is usually repeated in seven days. Permethrin is approved for use in people 2 months of age and older and is considered to be the safest and most effective treatment for scabies. An alternative treatment is 1 ounce of a 1% lotion or 30 grams of cream of lindane, applied from the neck down and washed off after approximately eight hours. Since lindane can cause seizures when it is absorbed through the skin, it should not be used if skin is significantly irritated or wet, such as with extensive skin disease, rash, or after a bath. As an additional precaution, lindane should not be used in pregnantor nursing women, the elderly, people with skin sores at the site of the application, children younger than 2 years of age, or people who weigh less than 110 pounds. Lindane is not a first-line treatment and is only recommended if patients cannot tolerate other therapies or if other therapies have not been effective. Resistance to this medication has also been frequently reported. Ivermectin (Stromectol), an oral medication, is an antiparasitic medication that has also been shown to be an effective scabicide, although it is not FDA-approved for this use. The CDC recommends taking this drug at a dosage of 200 micrograms per kilogram body weight as a single dose, followed by a repeat dose two weeks later. Although taking a drug by mouth is more convenient than application of the cream, ivermectin has a greater risk of toxic side effects than permethrin and has not been shown to be superior to permethrin in eradicating scabies. It is typically used only when topical medications have failed or when the patient cannot tolerate them.Crotamiton lotion 10% and cream 10% (Eurax, Crotan) is another drug that has been approved for the treatment of scabies in adults, but it is not approved for use in children. However, treatment failures have been documented with the use of crotamiton.Sulfur in petrolatum (Sulfo-Lac, Sulfo-Lo) applied as a cream or ointment is one of the earliest known treatments for scabies. It has not been approved by the FDA for this use, and sulfur should only be used when permethrin, lindane, or ivermectin cannot be tolerated. However, sulfur is safe for use in pregnant women and infants.

Scabies has been bothering me for 3 years. I have applied the Permethrin about sixty times, till now. How do I get rid of this?

Well, you can try Home Remedies but It will workd at a very slow pace.Scabies are nothing but a contagious itch or mange especially with exudative crusts that is caused by parasitic mites and especially by a mite of the genus Sarcoptes. The best remedy for Scabies isNeem OilNeem oil is known to kill scabies mites, and it prevents their ability to grow and breed. Neem also numbs pain and relieves itching, making it perfect to treat scabies symptoms as well.A study conducted in India evaluated 814 patients with scabies who used a paste made from neem oil andturmeric for treatment. A cure was obtained within three to 15 days in 97 percent of the cases — plus, no toxic or adverse reactions were observed. Researchers claim that this is a safe and effective alternative that is also cheap and easily available, which can be especially important when treating villagers or communities in developing countries.Pour some pure neem oil onto a clean cloth or gauze pad and apply the oil directly to any minor and localizedscabies infestations. Leave the oil on the skin for fifteen to twenty minutes to help eliminate the mites and reduce the swelling, itching and inflammation associated with scabies. The traditional neem home remedy for scabies:If you have access to fresh neem leaves you can prepare the neem treatment that was so successful in a clinical study: pound the neem leaves to a paste using a pestle and mortar, and mix four parts of neem leaves to one part fresh turmeric.
