Shaking Uncontrollably From Drinking Small Amount Of Alcohol

Shaking after drinking alcohol?

I've just recently begun drinking alcohol (I've drank twice since I started 2 months ago. The first time I only had 2 beers and the second time, which was last night, I had 2 Mike's Hard Lemonade and about 2 shots of rum). I am NOT an alcoholic by any means, and I've heard that alcoholics get "the shakes" with alcohol withdrawal, but I'm confused as to what I'm experiencing.

Usually, I'll go to sleep about 2-3 hours after I'm done drinking. After both times I drank, I experienced uncontrollable shaking for HOURS. It even continued into the morning for a little bit after I woke up. What is this? Is this very serious? Or is it just something like dehydration, and I just need to drink more water?

Why would drinking too much cause uncontrollable shaking?

There are a number of factors at work here, all having to do with the way alcohol affects the body.

First, alcohol dilates the capillaries at the surface of the skin. This causes more blood flow to the surface of the skin, which causes you to be feel warm at first, but then you feel chilled because you're basically wasting heat.

Second, when alcohol is processed by the body, it turns into formaldehyde and formic acid, which are essentially poisons. Some people react very badly to these poisons circulating through their body.

Finally, alcohol affects the nervous system. This has both mental effects (like loss of inhibition, and intensifying emotional states) and physical effects. When your nervous system is compromised, your motor control suffers. most people just become clumsy, but some develop a trembling or shaking as well.

Is it normal to start shaking uncontrollably after drinking coffee?

Sounds like you’re just a little jittery after a hit of espresso - if you had a flat white AND an espresso, that’s two heavily caffeinated drinks within a short period of time. It’s been suggested that eating a banana (because of its levels of potassium) can help level out too much caffeine, but i’d suggest you just drink some water, get some fresh air, and don’t back to back the coffee!

Why am I shaking after drinking alcohol?

Talk to a doctor. You might have an underlying problem.

If you are not eating that might be an answer.

You might have a condition like Essential Tremors. But that is where the doctor comes in. It could be a reaction to what is in the alcohol if you are drinking something different than you normally do. You might be coming down with something... And so on. Too many things to guess here.

Try some food. Call a doctor.

Good luck, hope you feel better.

Why am I shaking the day after drinking alcohol?

Shaking is caused a reduced level of electrolytes in blood. The electrolytes are required for all cell activity. Without them the body is unsteady. Also consider that your body is in a mild form of shock from the exposure to a toxin. Drink plenty of water and Gatorade and take a multivitamin with a meal. You'll be okay.

I like what the guy said about low blood sugar. It is an energy source that is depleted from the alcohol use. Plus the ramen has salts that will help.

Why do I shake after drinking alcohol?

Shakiness after drinking alcohol indicates low blood sugar or hypoglycemia. Presumably this means you are drinking and not eating anything with it or not eating much in general.

Can a chronic alcoholic stop drinking with virtually no withdrawal symptoms?

Yes, it is possible to quit drinking without experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Contrary, to what mainstream thinking dictates, I do not believe that withdrawal symptoms are chemical or biological in nature. I believe they are are emotional charged. They are driven by anxiety, stress and depression. The approach concerning medical supervision for detox substantiates this. In most cases, anti-anxiety, antidepressants and mood stabilization drugs are used to help people through withdrawal. If you want to quit drinking without experiencing withdrawal, the key is to significantly reduce or eliminate anxiety, stress or depression prior to discontinuing using alcohol. It is absolutely not a forgone conclusion that every alcohol dependent individual will experience withdrawal symptoms. It depends on the severity of the emotional issues and level of coping skills. Irrespective of that, though, the correct approach to eliminate the possibility of withdrawals is to reduce anxiety, stress or depression prior to stopping alcohol.

it sounds to me like your blood sugar could have bottomed out. You will get nauseous and have the shakes if that happens. Peanut butter can regulate your blood sugar and lemon water or water with any citrus will hydrate you. Just eat and drink slowly. Don't gulp your water or wolf down a pb&j. you will shock your system and then you will vomit.
