Should Football Be Banned At The High School Level

Is high school football dangerous?

I highly encourage you to continue playing high school football this upcoming season. Although playing high school football can be dangerous, I believe that the benefits outweigh the risks. Playing high school football will help make you a much fearless, stronger, tougher, and even smarter person :)

How safe is high school level american football?

My son has played football since he was 8 years old. I have had a family history of football since I was 6 years old. I have seen concussions, broken bones and a variety of other injuries. But in all that time I have never seen or heard of a death, nor have I seen or heard about a paralysis. I am so sick of these mamby pamby types causing hysteria in the sport of football that it doesn't deserve. This may sound hateful, but if you're that concerned about a concussion, take your child off the football field and choose another sport, there are several to choose from. Stop being selfish to the rest of the team that has been aware of the injuries, including concussions, since they could put on a helmet. Most of those boys on the field want to play and parents like you have a fit in the stands for everyone on the field to be careful around that specific child. The game is having to consider a new tempo to accommodate one child. I don't mean to be ugly but if you decide to play football, you just automatically accept it could happen to you.

High school and pee wee football have banned all tinted visors in order for coaches and trainers to quickly determine if players are in pain and need medical attention. NCAA football has also adopted the same rules.

Should football be banned as a children's sport?

American football should be banned outright. I would strongly support such a ban, especially if the resources currently devoted to football were diverted to other sports. I have two 14 year old boys who are big for their age and like playing American football. I let them throw the ball around and play flag football. (I got them a flag set so they and their friends can play.) I've forbidden them from playing tackle football and have explained my reasons to them. My wife supports me on this. American football is a dangerous sport, even with modern protective gear. I consider it foolish to allow a child to play such a sport, given the risks. There are many sports that teach all the same valuable lessons without the physical risk or the decadence and corruption of American football. My boys have resigned themselves to these other sports and they're enjoying them.I'll close by saying I'm not opposed to dangerous activities as a rule, for adults. I served in the Army Infantry, in law enforcement, and as a bouncer to make money in college. I was an adult at the time. We have a responsibility to use our best judgment to protect children while they're still developing their sense of judgment and self control. We can certainly do better than exposing them to the ridiculous spectacle of American football.
