Should I Get A Laptop Or Surface 2/pro 3 For College

Surface Pro 3 or MacBook Pro for college?

I am going to be going to college soon for engineering and will need new computer. I can't decide whether to get a surface pro 3 or a 13" MacBook Pro Retina. I am mostly going to be using this to take notes so I don't need any major specs plus I have a gaming desktop that I built that can handle anything major if I need it to be. Throughout high school I used an iPad 2 to take notes and it did well but it's getting pretty old now. Also to note that I use an iphone so I am kinda used to Apple. The reason I like the SP3 is because of the versatility and I like the MacBook because everything will be in sync since I have other apple products. If I get a SP3 I will probably switch to a windows phone though just so I can stay in sync with that since I am used to going from my iphone to iPad and everything is there.

Surface pro 3 i5?

They might run, but if they do, it'll be a framerate of ten or less. You're a sucker for blowing all that cash on a tablet and expecting it to play PC games. What you should have done is researched gaming laptops, looked around, and then bought a gaming laptop for the same price.

For example, a laptop known as the Raser Blade is the lightest in the gaming industry, but has all the oomph most casual players need. It runs at $1,000 base model.

Another laptop, Dell's Alienware 14, runs at $1,100 base model.

Both of these laptops have their own dedicated graphics cards, both are guaranteed to run all but the most graphics-intense games at a smooth framerate, and both are cheaper than that Surface Pro tablet.

Is MacBook Air a good laptop for college?

Yes. It will even run Windows 10 if you have to. But who does these days?

Which is better for college between Microsoft Surface Pro 3 or Dell XPS 13?

The advantage of Surface Pro 3 is the pen experience. I took all my class notes with the pen (Surface Pro, Pro 2, Pro 3) in my last two years in college in OneNote and it is great. You can easily search your handwritten notes and it is organized in one piece. You can easily take photos of slides that are not published online, save it in OneNote, and begin to annotate. You can annotate all the PDFs with DrawBoard PDF or PDF Annotator. Of course, it is also a very competent laptop in most aspects (not a gaming one, if that's what you are also looking at). It is light and versatile.Downsides are the keyboard and (if you don't plan to buy a monitor) the small screen real estate.

Can a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 fully replace a laptop?

It depends.I have a Surface Pro 3 (i5/256GB SSD/8GB RAM) and it's currently my tablet, my laptop, and my desktop PC.It can handle my programming tasks (IIS, SQL Server, Windows Phone virtual machine, multiple instances of Visual Studio) without trouble. I use it on the go as a laptop, and when I'm at home I connect it to an external monitor and keyboard, and it becomes my desktop. But it's not good for gaming. Of course it can run many games at 720p resolution and low details at an acceptable frame rate, but if you want to game much, then no it can't replace a laptop for you.The same if you want to do video encoding. You'll most probably able to edit your videos, but rendering will take a lot of time.Using it on your lap is good, but not as good as a regular laptop. On the other hand, Surface Pro 3 + Keyboard is lighter than most laptops out there. So, the answer to your question "Can a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 fully replace a laptop?" is yes. I am the proof :)But can it replace your laptop? depends on what you do with your laptop.

Surface Pro 3 gaming? Maplestory?

I'm not talking about heavy duty gaming, just Maplestory. Is the i5 processor on the SP3 enough to play Maplestory smoothly without ruining the laptop? Would the i7 be better? And is it bad for the laptop if the fan's on full throttle for an extended period of time? I've never owned a laptop so I'm not too sure about fans and overheating, etc.

The SP3 website says the i5 is good for "light gaming" but I don't know if Maplestory fits as light gaming since my super old desktop (1.8 ghz 1gb ram intel pentium dual) doesn't run it smoothly anymore even on the lowest resolution.

Should I buy the Macbook Air or Surface Pro 3 as a college student?

Both are great devices.First thing is the Surface Pen. I'm not sure if you are going to use it for your notes or not. But if you do, it's amazing :) Mahdi Ghiasi's answer to What do your lecture notes that are written with a tablet and stylus look like? Second thing is, if you are more familiar with Windows or OS X. Although you can most likely learn both OSes easily, but there will be a learning curve.Third, the "Lapability" (Microsoft uses this word to describe the ability to use your device on your lap)Although Surface Pro 3 is good enough for using on your lap (because of the kickstand and the new type cover) but a laptop (Including Macbook Air) is better at "Lapability". The rest is just specifications:Display resolution? Surface Pro 3 wins.Weight? Draw.More USB Ports? Macbook Air wins. (1 vs 2)Tablet usage? Surface Pro 3 wins.Touchscreen? Surface Pro 3 wins.Keyboard? I'm not sure how is Macbook Air's keyboard, but I can type on Surface Type Cover almost as fast as my full sized keyboard.Touchpad? I haven't used Macbook Air's touch pad myself. But from forums, it seems that Macbook Air wins.Gaming? You might need an external USB fan for Surface Pro 3 (to avoid throttling), not sure about Macbook Air. Also, both i5 and i7 versions of Macbook Air have Intel HD 5000. But about Surface Pro 3, i5 has HD4400 and i7 has HD5000. We may consider Macbook Air as winner in this area. (But remember. Both SP3 and MBA are ultrabooks with integrated graphics. They're far from a gaming laptop, or a desktop with a modern dedicated graphics card.)

Surface pro 3 or MacBook Pro?

Im a college student and im debating which of the two i should get. I have an ipad mini which i love but it doesn't really do me justice. I can't really type essays on there, but anyways I'm not here to talk about my iPad mini lol.
I know both the surface pro 3 and the MacBook pro are good to type essays and such. I also know that the surface might be cheaper than the MacBook and thats why it grabs my attention. I have one concern though, with the surface pro 3 am I able to download origins and play sims 3 or 4 on it? Im a huge fan of that game for years now and I would like to purchase something that can play sims and be able to do my college work on it at the same time.
I know with the MacBook pro i could do both, but like i said the surface grabbed my attention price wise and how it doesnt weigh much. I heard that the surface rt works fine for gaming. I think im leaning towards the surface pro 3 more but if it cant do gaming then i rather get something else.
Which do you guys recommend; or if there is anuother type of laptop or tablet that you guys recommend that will be nice.
Thank You

Which laptop tablet should I buy for college, the Lenovo Yoga 520 or the Microsoft Surface Pro 4?

It is totally Depends on you that which Laptop you will choose to buy.First of all you have to Keep in Mind the Important Specification of both the Laptops. And in My Opinion the Both Have almost Same Specifications excluding Prise and Some Hardware. In my Vision, Both Laptop Tablets are best But if you wanna keep some Class of your then you should Go for Surface Pro 4 because it looks Classic and If you Are looking for Moderate Budget then you should Go For Yoga 520 but the Interface and the Services Provide by Microsoft are Best and As I Read that the Microsoft Surface Pro is Worth the Cost so You Can Go for it. But Microsoft don't have that much Service Centers so If you wanna look for More Service Centres then You Should Go for Lenovo. And As I already said that Both a almost Similar so you can Find out which suits you best and Can Go for it.Best Of Luck....
