Should I Quit My Job Or Just Take A Temporary Leave

What is the business etiquette of leaving temporary job early?

I started a temporary job about a month ago and it was only promised to last until June 30 because of budget cuts. Is it bad etiquette to interview for permanent positions at other organizations so far in advance of my end date? Would it be in bad taste to leave my temporary position early to accept a permanent one? I love the staff and environment I work in but I am a single mom and need stability financially.

Should I take Temporary or Permanent job?

I'm 16 and I need a job for the holiday (8 weeks left) and I found a job in Salisbury's for under 18s and it says "Job type: Permanent". What does this mean?. My plan is to keep the job for the holidays and then leave at September. Can I do this or do I need a temporary job?

Should I leave a permanent job for a temporary one.?

So I started working for my current company right out of college. I began thier training program in Iowa (I m from NY) where I was told after finishing I would be able to do anything within the organization and possibly go to corporate (which is in NJ which is close to home). The problem is, the only open position was a production supervisor in Michigan which they placed me in.

I hate my job, aside from working 60-70 hour weeks on 2nd shift, I feel underemployed and my very expensive egineering degree is not being used.

I ve been job searching for months now and not been having much luck except today I got an offer for a temp position in NJ with a well known massive company. It d be close to home, the pay is pretty similar, and I d be doing something that I believe would do wonders for my career if it goes perm.

But there is the risk that it won t go perm. The staffing agency said that there s a really good chance that if I do well they will hire me perm when the position is unfrozen and the lady I interviewed with hinted the same. Is it worth it to leave a job which pays well but makes me miserable for one that I ll love and could potentially advance my career drastically but it s only temp?

Etiquette of leaving a job?

NEVER "hint around" that you might be leaving. If your employer is considering any cuts, you'll be the first to go. Some other tips:

1. The best time to search for a job is when you have one. You're not under any pressure and won't make most common errors, such as looking desperate.

2. Never let your job search interfere with your current position. Keep it off duty and never schedule an interview that requires you to take time off.

3. Never search for a job from your job or every use your job's resources to prepare and print resumes, etc.

4. When you do get an offer, make sure that they understand that you need to give 2 weeks notice (or whatever is customary locally) at your current job. This is standard practice and no employer worth working for would ever object.

5. Always tender your resignation in writing and give it to your boss personally. Schedule a private meeting with him or her. Your resignation letter should be professional, state that you are resigning as of whatever date, and thank your employer for the opportunity to work there. As far as reasons are concerned, the best reason is specifically vague: "To pursue other opportunities." You don't need to mention your new employer's name and should never put it in the resignation letter. If you do reveal that, do so verbally.

Most employers treat resignations professionally since few employees work for a single company for their entire career.

Be prepared for a possible counter offer. That can get tricky. I've seen cases where an employer countered with a better offer and then let the employee go a few weeks later once the other job had been filled and was no longer available. That's petty and mean spirited but it does happen. I've also seen counter offers work out well and have had that experience myself, with more pay, more responsibility, more interesting work, etc.

How bad is it to quit a job before orientation/first day?

I was desperate for a job when I moved back to my home state. I applied at many places, and although I prefer permanent, I considered seasonal. I got a call back for one job, went on the interview, was accepted for the job (Dec. 1) and I am supposed to do orientation tomorrow (Dec. 11) and start the next day. This job is only seasonal (2 weeks). I ended up getting a call back at another job which is in a more convenient location and is offering me a full time position.
I prefer the second job. If I continue with the seasonal job I'm going to have to fret about finding a job in 2 weeks. I just hate wasting peoples time, and this isn't something I do. I have only had a few jobs and keep them for years. I'm embarrassed to call the day before I start only to bail. What is the right thing to do?
