Should I Skip Calc Ab And Take Bc My Senior Year

AP Calculus Junior Year?

AP Calc is left for senior year in my school. Like literally, no one takes ap calc except for really smart people who self study it. In my school you need to take pre calc and calc before ap so that's what everyone does senior year. As you know there are two Calcs, AP calc AB and BC. There are pre calc courses online that you can do but you have to pay for and after precalc I would recommend you do calc. If you just skip honors calc, i don't think they're going to let you in. It's like skipping from pre algebra to algebra 2. All the main stuff go around algebra 1 and you don't want to take ap before honors. But if you think you can skip Honors calc AB and move right on to ap calc ab or bc, then you'd have to take a honors calc AB exam to show your knowledge of the subject, and the counselor would probably let you skip a class. Honestly, if you can't take ap calc junior year at school, you can either take the class at a local college or self study. Taking a class costs a lot of money, might I warn you. And self studying for calc I would recommend to highly capable people (Like people who get a 2000 on sat's). Last but not least, discuss it with your counselor. Make a list of all the possibilities you can do and check it off with him over the phone or in person. Make sure your parents call though, so the school knows that this is a big deal to you.

What should I do if my school won't let me skip Calculus AB?

So apparently at my school you HAVE to take AP calc AB to go into AP calc BC next year, but other schools let you go into calc BC without a Calculus AB requirement.

Should I mention this when applying to colleges? I don't want them thinking I didn't challenge myself with calc BC in my junior year (right now) because I would have loved taking calc 3 senior year. Thanks.

Should I take AP Calculus AB or BC?

I am currently a sophomore in high school, taking honors precalculus/trigonometry and averaging an A+. My school lets us skip directly to AP Calc BC if we have an A or A+ average in precalc, so I am definitely qualified. However, I cannot decide between AB and BC. Both courses have the same teacher (a great teacher, giving a challenge to students and having a high amount of 5's on the AP exam).

My current precalc teacher recommends everyone stay with Calc AB, because if we were to skip we would lose a full year of rigorous calculus before college. (If I go with BC, I will take AP Stat senior year and likely do multivariable calculus online). I am looking at highly selective colleges in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, and may possibly pursue some math-related career. (Just wondering, would a college prefer to see a 5 on AP Calc AB, or a 5 on BC with a 5 for AB subscore?)

So, which calculus class do y'all think I should take? If it's AP Calc BC, would taking multivariable be a good idea, and help me further prepare for college math? (For further reference, I will NOT be taking AP Calculus for the sake of placing out of college courses.)
