Sleep Paralysis Out Of Body Night Terrors

Night terrors, sleep paralysis?

That's not night terrors.

This is what a night terror is.

" Night terrors happen during deep non-REM sleep. Unlike nightmares (which occur during REM sleep), a night terror is not technically a dream, but more like a sudden reaction of fear that happens during the transition from one sleep phase to another.

Night terrors usually occur about 2 or 3 hours after a child falls asleep, when sleep transitions from the deepest stage of non-REM sleep to lighter REM sleep, a stage where dreams occur. Usually this transition is a smooth one. But rarely, a child becomes agitated and frightened — and that fear reaction is a night terror.

During a night terror, a child might suddenly sit upright in bed and shout out or scream in distress. The child's breathing and heartbeat might be faster, he or she might sweat, thrash around, and act upset and scared. After a few minutes, or sometimes longer, a child simply calms down and returns to sleep."

I experienced these when I was a child. They usually do not happen to adolescents or adults.

What you experienced was a bad dream and a possible episode of sleep paralysis.
The more you obsess over bad dreams, the more likely they are to recur.

Also, look at how much caffeine you consume. I bet you drink more coffee, energy drinks and sodas than you are willing to admit. And those affect sleep and dreams.

What causes sleep paralysis and night terrors?

Sleep paralysis is closely related to the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is known as REM atonia. Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM state, but the bodily paralysis persists. This leaves the person fully aware, but unable to move. In addition, the state may be accompanied by hypnagogic hallucinations. (strange shapes, faces, ect.)
some causes are:Sleeping in an upwards supine position
Irregular sleeping schedules; naps, sleeping in, sleep deprivation
Increased stress
Sudden environmental/lifestyle changes
A lucid dream that immediately precedes the episode. Also conscious induction of sleep paralysis is a common technique to enter a state of lucid dreams, also known as WILD .
Artificial sleeping aides, antihistamines
Recent use of hallucinogenic drugs
low levels of melatonin, a hormone. Usually, melatonin peaks at its highest levels in the middle of the night, but low levels, especially at night, preventing the stimulation of muscles, causing the body to not have the ability to move during dreams, and even when they wake up.

night terrors also have to do with REM sleep. In adults and children over the age of ten, they usually occure because of some sort of trauma the person has experienced.

NIGHT TERRORS? SLEEP PARALYSIS? HELP ME PLEASE. 10 points best answer.?

sometimes in the night, right as a drift off into sleep I wake up, pinned to my bed, i try to scream but no noise comes out, the feeling is like being on one of those rides that sucks you to the wall, i can move my head side to side with a struggle but it iss honestly so so sos ososososos so frightening, like i cannot even describe how horrendously scary it is, the first time it happened i didnt snap out of it for atleast a couple minutes and i was pulled up to the ceiling, that was by far the worst/scariest time. iv read about sleep paralysis and im not sure if thats what this could be? except i never hallucinate demons or sounds.. as some people claim too. its just a feeeling of absolute vulnerability and its horrific. i truly cannot even describe it. people have told me on here before about how its nothing to worry about and they have had similar feelings as a kid, try to fly around my house blah blah blah, its not like that, its as if im being controlled, i cant move i cant do anything, and the feeling is a negative, heavy one. its truly so scary. and it seems so real, like its really happeneing, when i snap out oof it i never know if it was real or a dream.. it only happens on some nights, but on those nights it happens every single time i try to fall asleep, so i end up just sitting awake. then it goes away for weeks, or monthes, then returns, there doesnt seem to be a pattern. im so scared. could this be sleep paralysis? or something else? any oppinions are appreciated!
also im a teenage girl if that makes any difference.
