Smartphone Plans Under 50 A Month

Why are SIM-only contracts for smartphones (including a data plan), in for example the Netherlands, less attractive than a contract including a smartphone?

At first glance, it seems a better deal to purchase a package deal. However, this may not be the case and it actually is quite difficult to find out the difference between package deals and SIM-only subscriptions.First we'll notice there is a difference between the amount of airtime minutes you'll get with a SIM-only or a package deal, so a 1-to-1 comparison is impossible. However, we can do some estimations. I've picked two package deals from vodafone.nl (as of 17-09-2012) and two SIM-only subscriptions with a separately purchased smartphone from belsimpel.nl (price including shipping). As smartphone I selected the Samsung Galaxy S3, all subscriptions have 500 MB data included per month, have unlimited SMS and are 2 year subscriptions. Ordering is from less to more number of minutes included.160 minutes SIM-only:14 months * EUR 14,50 = EUR 20324-14 = 10 months * EUR 29 = EUR 290Samsung Galaxy S3 = EUR 508,95Totals up to EUR 920,95200 minutes package deal:8 months * EUR 25 = EUR 20024-8 = 16 months * EUR 50 = EUR 800One-time fee for phone = EUR 29,99Totals up to EUR 1029,99300 minutes package deal:8 months * EUR 30 = EUR 24024-8 = 16 months * EUR 60 = EUR 960One-time fee for phone = EUR 19,99Totals up to EUR 1219,99350 minutes SIM-only:14 months * EUR 19,50 = EUR 27324-14 = 10 months * EUR 39 = EUR 390Samsung Galaxy S3 = EUR 508,95Totals up to EUR 1171,95You already notice that the 350 minute SIM-only is cheaper than the 300 minute package deal in this case.Note that another stunning difference exists: for the SIM-only subscription minutes outside the bundle are charged at 35 cents per minute, while minutes outside the package deal bundle are charged at 30 cents per minute. In this comparison I've only included subscriptions from a single provider. You should definitely include others if you want to make a good selection. Please be advised that you must do the math to find out which is really the best option, since it's not simply the case that a package deal or a SIM-only will always be cheaper.

What is the best cell phone plan?

The best cell phone plan really depends on a couple of factors.  You need to consider a few factors such as the size of your data plan, the amount of people on your plan, and coverage area - for example, Verizon cannot be used overseas as easily as AT&T, and if you travel a lot, especially overseas it's important to know in advance.  Other factors include the length of your contract or do you want to pay as you go.  Do you want a major carrier or are you looking for a small company that may also keep your data rates much lower. Right now there is some great competition between major carriers that are helping to lower rates and offer some incredible deals on top of those rate changes.  As such, companies like AT&T and Verizon are offering you to the opportunity to upgrade your cell phones every 18 months, which also allows you to spread payments of the phone for the duration of you contract. Not to be outmatched, Sprint is offering a similar short-term pay as you go plan to be able to upgrade your phone, but also offering the Samsung Galaxy S6 for FREE - http://tinyurl.com/kcsajlx - So depending on what you need from your cell phone plan, to pay month-to-month, or the flexibility to upgrade your phone, or even other promotions, there are some great plans for you to save.

How much a month will verizon phone bill cost?

You can no longer get unlimited web. So you will have to decide how much web you will actually use.

Unlimited minutes $69.99

Unlimited text messaging $20.00

Data Allowance 2GB $30.00
5GB $50.00
10GB $80.00
Then there is a $10.00 charge for each GB of data you go over for each GB of your plan.

The taxes and fees for cell phone plans are around 20-25% of your total bill.

So the bill for unlimited minutes, unlimited messages and 2 GB of data will be around $143.00

The bill for unlimited minutes, unlimited messages and 5 GB of data will be around $168.00

The bill for unlimited minutes, unlimited messages and 10 GB of data will be around $203.00

These are just estimates of what your plan may cost. It could cost more or less depending on where you live.

I would say sell the Iphone and look into a prepaid plan. You can get prepaid plans for $50 per month with Net10 with unlimited talk, text and web for $50 per month.

What is the best prepaid cell phone plan for someone who uses a lot of data?

I just moved to the Bay Area and was looking for something similar.  HowardForums has a great list of providers here: General Prepaid Wiki:Prepaid Rate Plan Comparison. Before starting, do you plan to bring your own device or do you have a particular device in mind?  If yes, depending on whether the device is GSM or CDMA your options will be limited to a carrier that supports that frequency.  My shortlist came down to the following carriers:T-mobile: They have great plans from $30-$50 with lots of data, however, they throttle pretty hard.  Note that tethering / personal hotspots are not supportedAT&T: It'll cost you $25 + $25 = $50 for 1GB of data but the speeds are good.  They reason why I almost chose them was because they supported tethering and personal hotpotsStraight Talk: They advertise unlimited data for $45 but as they use T-mobile there is throttling.  Tethering / personal hotspots are not supportedNet10: They cost $50 for unlimited everything.  They were a bit of a gem as they used the AT&T network which does not throttle as hard as T-Mobile.  That being said, they're in the process of discontinuing new sign-ups with AT&T, which means you'd have to snag a SIM from Amazon or Walmart while the last.  In the end, I chose Net10.  These things can change pretty quickly, especially for MVNOs (i.e. straight talk, Net10, etc) so it's always good to check the facts at a forum such as HowardForums.
